Currently I'm publishing A Witch and an Amazon Walk into a Bar. A draft version of the first chapter can be found in the Fluffle, and this is the first Fluffle entry to graduate to becoming its own story.

Why FemHarry?

It's not too hard to see that I focus on write stories that feature a female version of Harry in the leading role - a female who is taking risks and saving the day.

Why?

I find it amusing how often I've seen the objection of "what's the point?" to flipping Harry's gender, as if there weren't any problem in how gender is currently treated in most popular fiction (books, movies, TV, you name it). To ask "what's the point" of putting a female in the leading role is to assume that it's normal and acceptable for males to usually be taking the most risks and saving the day while female characters are relegated to research and support, to playing nurturing roles instead of protective roles. It assumes that it's acceptable for girls to always be the ones put in danger while boys are always the ones who do the saving, thereby showing how brave and heroic they are.

What's the point of having a girl save a prince - or even a princess - from a dragon? What's the point of a having girls save the day while boys provide support in the background?

Because people actually keep asking that question!

I wouldn't feel such a strong urge to go out of my way to recast a male character as a female who now gets to do all the same bold, heroic things he did if it weren't for the fact that our culture today continues to find such arrangements strange and unnatural. I wouldn't go out of my way to do it so often if there weren't so many people who are so befuddled by the situation that they genuinely and sincerely don't see the point of having a girl save the day instead of a boy.

Somewhere in your life, there exists at least one female. I'm sure of it. Would you really tell her to her face that she can't be brave and heroic? That she can't be confident and daring? That she can't save the day?

If and when the day comes that heroic girls saving nurturing boys is just as common in popular fiction as the reverse, then I won't see much point in stories like mine, either. I wouldn't necessarily stop writing them, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to focus on them. Until then, reaching that state of affairs is the point.

Story Progress

Yule Ball Panic Complete. This is part one of the story of Jasmine & Hermione (which one reader has dubbed "The Goddess Trilogy") and is not only my first fanfic ever, but is in fact the first creative fiction story of any sort that I'd written in a long, long time. I've written tons of nonfiction, but not fiction. It has flaws, there's no doubt about it, but I still like it despite how obvious those flaws are to me now.

The Power of Love Complete and re-edited. This is part two of the story of Jasmine & Hermione and is the second fiction story I've ever started (fourth to be finished, though). At well over 300,000 words it's quite an accomplishment, if I do say so myself (that's more than the first three HP books combined, as a point of reference).

Heart and Soul Complete. This is part three of the story of Jasmine and Hermione, and publishing started at the end of January, 2016. There are 51 chapters plus an epilogue.

Amy Potter is... Batgirl! Complete. This is a crossover between Harry Potter and the 1960s Batman TV show. There's lots of tongue-in-cheek humor, but also enough serious elements to make for an interesting story with engaging characters. It's my first attempt to write a story in first person perspective, and I think it turned out fairly well. I'm sure lots of people will find the premise to be rather dubious, but more than one skeptical reader has found it interesting enough to continue reading, so give it a try!

Harry Potter Story Fluffle: In progress. I have ideas sketched out for quite a few stories, mostly FemHarry stories, and it's unlikely that they'll all get written. In some cases, that's because I don't actually have a full plot arc in mind - just the basic, initial idea for a story, especially in cases of crossovers. Writing at least an initial chapter will hopefully help me decide if there's potential for a full story and perhaps keep the idea from nagging at me. So far I have initial chapters for crossovers with Wonder Woman, Star Wars, Superman/Supergirl, Stargate, The Mummy, and Buffy. By the way, a "fluffle" is a name for a group of bunnies. Plot bunnies, in this case.

The Death of Natasha Romanoff Complete. This is Witches of SHIELD #1.

Iris Potter, Agent of SHIELD Complete. This is Witches of SHIELD #2.

Iris Potter and the Exile from Asgard Complete. This is Witches of SHIELD #3.

Iris Potter One-shots: Coming Soon. About two years pass between Exile from Asgard and the next story (which is partially outlined), so I plan on filling in some of the gaps with a couple of short stories.

Iris Potter and the Order of Avengers: Currently in development. This will be Witches of SHIELD #4.
