Epilogue Thirteen Years Later
Hermione Potter sat on the football pitch turned pavilion surrounded by her fellow parents. Today was a proud day for the Potter family as it was graduation day and these kids were the first full batch to go from Kindergarten to Graduation at the school and she couldn't be more proud. Her oldest daughter was also graduating today at the top of her class just like her mother. Hermione was having trouble holding back the proud tears that threatened to fall from her face.
"Mum, please say you won't cry at my graduation also" a fourteen year old Teddy Lupin-Potter said from beside her.
"Of course I will sweetheart. A mother is allowed to cry on important events in her kid's lives." She smiled lovingly at her adopted son. "I plan to do it for all four of you kids." This comment earned an eye roll from Teddy and giggles from his younger siblings. "Now shush, your father is about to start."
All the kids quieted and faced forward as their father took to the stage dressed in a black graduation robe. Hermione smiled at seeing the old robe he wore when he graduated University earning his Master's in Education. She was so proud of him on that day that she is pretty sure she cried then also.
"Good afternoon my fellow parents, today is a proud day for all of us. It has been a long thirteen years since I first welcomed many of you to this school for the first time. On that day, we embarked on a new journey together that saw our kids grow from wide eyed excited children to the young adults we see sitting in front of me today. After today, these young people will go out into the world and blaze a trail for themselves, a trail that has already been made possible by those who have gone before them."
"We have seen many changes since the first time we met on these grounds. It was five years ago that we saw the disbandment of the Wizengamot and the first Wizard Parliament established. I am proud to say that not only are many of our graduates working in both magical and non-magical governments, but many of our alumni have even gone on to be Magical Members of Parliament with three sitting members." Harry paused here as the crowd broke into a round of applause. "But we are not here to celebrate the graduates of the past, but to honor the newest batch of Graduates. It is with great pride, that I introduce the valedictorian of the Graduating class of 2015, Samantha Potter."
Hermione rose from her seat clapping enthusiastically for her adopted daughter. Sam had been the first adopted Potter child and the first to be graduating. Hermione smiled remembering when they had adopted Sam. It was one of the happiest times of any of their lives. It had been after Harry's first year at Cambridge and none of the doctors they had visited could find a solution to Harry's condition. By that time, she might as well have already been part of the family anyways. She was the flower girl at their wedding over the summer and she probably spent more time at their house than the orphanage, filling out the paperwork just made it official.
The girl in question took the stage dressed in her own set of graduation robes complete with mortar board and tassel. "Thank you dad, I mean Headmaster" she said as the crowd laughed. "My fellow graduates, parents, family, and guests, thank you for coming. How do you sum up thirteen years of education in a short speech without boring people to death? I think I will take a leaf out of my father's book this time instead of my mother's and keep it short. I'm sure all of you have heard her speeches fighting for equality on the floor of Magical Parliament and I doubt I will ever be as eloquent as her. I guess what I would really like to dedicate this speech to is The Lily Potter Foundation. This wonderful organization has done more for magical beings in the last thirteen years than anybody since the founders. Thanks to the Lily Potter Foundation, all magical beings are now treated equally under the law. We now have a truly representative government that is accountable to the people, educational levels are up and innovative companies such as Magic Technologies founded by my mother and godmother are able to find funding. But most importantly, they gave a new life and family to a scared little girl who had no friends and no hope for the future. I ask all of my fellow graduates to use the Lily Potter Foundation as an example and strive to find ways to better our world in any way that you can. I know I will. I will leave of with one bit of wisdom I heard many years ago. Be excellent to each other, thank you."
A/N There you go, the end of this story. This story changed a lot from my original plan when I first started it but I am happy with how it turned out and where my muse took me with it. Thank you for everyone who stuck with it till the end and I hope you enjoyed reading it. I will probably return to these characters at a later date and fill in those thirteen years but for now I want to return to my other stories.
