I haven't updated my profile in a looong time, so thought I would with some views on various fandoms I enjoy.

Harry Potter:

Dumbledore: I have a love-hate with this character. He has so much potential, but it is lost because Rowling wanted to have her cake and eat it too. He admits multiple times in the books that he knew what Harry was enduring at the Dursleys, and he kept sending him back. This makes him a child abuser, by proxy. If you do something, knowing it'll cause a really bad result, you don't get to hide behind "But I had a good reason." You're an evil bastard. It's why my favorite renditions of him find out about the abuse and /do something about it/ and don't make a point of sending him back to his abusers. We won't even get into the ham-fisted way the school is a death trap. :)

Hermione: I really like "Book" Hermione. She is really smart in a believable manner, and she has some flaws, including her tendency to make snap judgements and her need to make people act the way she wants them to. I will admit, Rowling tends to downplay her flaws a bit. She's probably one of my favorite "Book" characters even so. "Movie" Hermione I like less. She is given a lot of cool moments from Ron, and the movies downplay her flaws a great deal, making her something of a caricature compared to the "Book" version. "Fandom" Hermione ... is not something I tend to like, or at least one iteration (one of the most popular) of "Fandom" Hermione. In this iteration, Hermione is this super-genius who learns without studying and could possibly put Tony Stark to shame in the brains department, and more. She is utterly talented in whatever she does, and is often even as powerful as Harry, to the point where it sometimes feels like Harry is HER sidekick.

Ron: I feel for Ron. In the books, Ron is pretty cool for a while. He is the one who keeps his head with the Devil's Snare, and he sacrifices himself in the chessboard. As time passes, though, even in the books, Rowling delegates Ron to the "conflict maker" and he rarely offers any aid, there simply to be a spark needed for melodrama. "Movie" Ron is even worse. And we won't get into one of the more common "Fandom" depictions, where the "Ron the Death Eater" trope came from. :) It's kind of funny. If handled better in the books, I think he too would be one of my favorite characters, but Rowling basically took a fair start of a loyal, flawed young man prone to not thinking before speaking and turned him into a melodrama machine.

Snape: In a nutshell: Screw Snape. While I actually like "Fandom" Snapes who are nice if flawed people, the number who insist he's such a good person and complicated character for the book Snape ... meh. He is an adult who spends his life tormenting children, and bullying them. We won't get into his Occlumency "lessons" or the fact he only turned "good" because his crush got targeted. He is a vindictive arse. He isn't a supervillain. He isn't utterly evil. But he IS evil, he's not a poor, misunderstood good guy.

My Hero Academia:
* Bakugou: I see a lot of people in the fandom excusing Bakugou's behavior, or insisting he 'changed' and so it's okay. We see in the work - not fanfiction - that Bakugou has constantly bullied Izuku without stopping for an entire decade, we see him suicide-baiting him, and so on. It's to the point where him simply growling at him at one point sends Izuku into a burgeoning panic attack. Without any sort of extrapolation, this is horrendous. And him not being 'quite so mean' to Izuku is not an apology. Until he actually goes out and /apologizes/, I do not think he's a 'good guy' or 'has changed'. To get into more personal views, with how much he uses his quirk, I think it likely he's used it often on Izuku as well. I doubt the author would accept this, but it makes sense with what the author has actually written. Which leads to actual physical abuse with something that /causes explosions/.

Nighteye: Screw 'im. He explicitly goes out of his way to psychologically damage Izuku to try to convince him to turn his quirk over to Mirio, and after the Overhaul fight, Izuku /actually tries to do this/. Thankfully, Mirio is a great guy and says no.
