Hello Ladies and Germs! I'm planning to go back and update the first however many chapters I wrote where my writing style was trash. Here's the second chapter I wrote after my self exile from the story. Now, ON WITH THE SHOW! I've got the madness! I've got it too! I've got Cabin fever! WRONG SHOW!
"Ah, Welcome back Harry!" Ambrose said from the communal painting that hung in the kitchen. The Hogwarts express had gotten there at night, as per usual, and so Harry had not greeted his Grandfather yet.
"Hello Grandpa. How was the semester with me being gone?" Harry asked.
"Quite dull. There's only so much Remus can do to keep me occupied. But, fear not, Great Grandfather Redmund's portrait has nearly absorbed enough ambient magic to awaken. I haven't seen him since I was a child, so it will be great to have some more company." Ambrose smiled. You see, when a portait is under the stasis charm for long enough, they become bewitched, and require a highly magical area to unlock the spell. The longer they were bewitched, the longer it takes for them to become reanimated.
"That's great news! I can't wait to meet another relative." Harry smiled as he sat down at the informal dining table. Remus was already up and reading the paper, a cup of tea next to him.
"Yes, Ambrose hasn't shut up about it for weeks now. And I can only tell so many stories or play so many games of chess until we both are bored." Remus said not looking up from the Daily Prophet. Pipit popped in next to Harry before setting a plate down and popping away.
"Oh, Uncle Moony, how are you feeling? The full moon was a few nights ago after all." He asked.
"Fine now, though I did meet quite the peculiar owl after I transformed. If I hadnt annoyed it, I would have said it was a domesticated one. Why-" Remus said before a shadow flew over the window before a knocking could be heard on the window. Pipit appeared and opened it, allowing a snowy Owl to fly in and land on the back on an empty chair.
"I believe that is the same owl that I ran into." Remus said. "Nice to see you again Mr. Owl." Remus said. The owl barked at him and levelled a glare at the werewolf.
"I think she might be a lady Moony." Harry chuckled before holding out a piece of bacon for the bird. She gave out a confirmatory hoot before taking the meat with her beak.
"My apologies ma'am. But what are you doing in our Kitchen?" Remus asked.
"She seems too intelligent and well mannered to be a wild owl, she must be a post owl someone lost." Ambrose theorized. The owl barked again. "Perhaps you didn't like your last owner, or they are no longer amongst the living?"
She hooted once more before looking to Harry for another piece. Harry chuckled before handing her more bacon as his other hand stroked her head feathers. "Well, would you like to become the Family owl of the Thornwood clan?" Harry asked.
The owl nodded before taking his bacon. "Well then you need a name. Hm... how about... Hedwig?" Harry asked. Hedwig hooted, before flying onto Harry's arm. "Well then Hedwig, Welcome to the family. And, I have a few letters to send if you are up for it."
Hedwig puffed up her chest and hooted, causing the room to laugh. A half hour later, with breakfast over, and everyone getting ready for their days, Hedwig was off, with a few letters, flying off into the morning.
"Any luck with the Unspeakables?" Amelia asked.
"Nay, they say they can't take the spirit off our hands for two weeks. Something about a mix up with one of their experiments." Moody claimed from his spot opposite of the Director. Amelia sighed before pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Very well. Double the guards on that containment room." She instructed. With a grunt Moody hobled out of her office, muttering about constant vigilance. As Amelia took a sip of her tea, the postbox adjacent to her let out a ding as a letter shot out onto her desk.
"Ah, Heir Thornwood is responding to me." She said seeing the insignia in the lower corner of the envelope. "Lets see, ah yes, next Tuesday at 9." She said summoning her planner. "That will do it seems." With a wave of her wand writing appeared on the calendar, stating a meeting at 9. She quickly penned a response letter, sending it out before going back to her paperwork.
Tick Tick Tick.
"Blimey! Wha's ole the racket?" Hagrid bellowed as he opened the window to his hut. As he did so a snowy white owl entered and perched on his table. "Now who are you?" The half giant inquired. Hedwig just hooted and held out her leg, allowing him to untie a letter. "Oh! It's from 'Arry!"
Dear Hagrid, If you could arrive at the alleyway between the Leaky Cauldron and Flourish and Blotts next Friday at 1:15, I shall guide you to my Master's shop where I shall craft you a new focus. Please be sure to bring the vials of acromantula venom and if possible could you get a tooth from your Cerbeus? It would be quite the boon to experiment on.
Signed,
Hadrian J. Thornwood
Heir apparent of the Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Thornwood.
"So you must be 'Arry's Bird then? Yer quite the beaut'." Hagrid complimented. "Let me grab some Parchment an' a quill and respond."
"Heir Thornwood, finally we can have our discussion." Madam Bones said as she ushered the young man into her office.
"Indeed Madam Bones. I thank you for taking me seriously about Quirrell. I can only imagine the toll he would have collected had he obtained the stone for his master." Harry said sitting down.
"Of course, the safety of the next generation is extremely important. I cannot fathom as to how Dumbledore thought up this hair-brained scheme. Maybe Malfoy was correct and that Dumbledore has finally lost it." Madam Bones half lied. She agreed that the shade currently being kept in the DMLE could be Voldemort. There was conflicting evidence after all that the Dark Lord was dead after he attacked the Potter's. "But that is not why we are here. I am most curious as to your arrival to the ministry ball over Yule."
"Yes, I figured we would get right to it. Here is a list of the spells used for our spectacular entrance." Harry said pulling out a piece of parchment.
Meanwhile...
"Imperio." A voice whispered as a puff of sickly yellow vapor wafted out of a hidden wand. The Auror grew ridged as his body tried to fight off the curse. "Open the door." The same voice commanded. The Auror moved like a robot, stiff and jerky, sure signs of him trying to fight the mysterious person's control. After a few minutes his body relented as he jerked open the door. "Enter the room and hand me the gem."
With a robotic walk, the Auror grabbed the crystal prison and held out his hand before an arm appeared out of nowhere and snatched the gem before closing the door, the Auror still inside.
...
"So it was simply an Illusion and a recording spell?" Amelia asked.
"Indeed. Whilst I am not usually one for pranks, every so often I get a stirring to pull one. It comes from my uncle being a prankster himself. But it was harmless and certainly got the ball rolling with me meeting influential people." Harry explained.
Before Amelia could respond the room grew red as a blaring siren went off. "Heir Thornwood, stay here! Someone has raised the alarm." She said going full combat mode. She quickly left the office, locking the door on the way out.
"What's the situation Rivers?" She asked as she entered the main office.
"Ma'am! Killian was found in the containment room unconscious, the containment crystal holding the shade missing!" The Auror responded. Amelia's eye nearly popped out of her monocle at this.
"Sound the alarm! Lock down the building! No one gets in or out without being screened!" She barked. The remaining Aurors quickly saluted before scrambling to follow the orders. Four hours later, the lock down was over as everyone in the ministry had been scanned, and the crystal had been found. Without the spirit.
"Heir Thornwood, I apologies for the delay to our meeting. That package you had given us has been stolen." Amelia said in code, hoping that no one was listening. If they could break into the DMLE holding facility they could break into her office.
"That is not good. But it certainly gives credence to our theory. Do you have any idea how it happened?" Harry asked.
"A few. But those are for me to work with. I'd rather not go into them just after such a breach of security." She said adjusting her monocle. It was quite the piece of magic, having many of the same enchantments as Moody's eye. Luckily for her, it showed no signs of any listening charms in her office.
"Of course. Before I go, might you answer an inquiry of mine?" Harry asked. Amelia rose an eyebrow and motioned for him to continue. "What is the muggle to wizard ratio in The United Kingdom?"
"570 to 1." Amelia answered. "There are currently around 57 million muggles in Britain, whilst there are roughly only 100 thousand wizards."
"And out of that how many are apart of the Auror department?" He asked. Madam Bones rose her eyebrow once more, unsure of where this was going.
"Including the Obliviation team, about 150 in total." She said shocking the boy. "We also have 25 hit-wizards on retainer."
"Really!? I would imagine that it would be much more than that. What was the corps like before the war?"
"When the Dark Lord was just starting to rise we had just over 700 Aurors and Obliviators." She explained. "With 100 hit-wizards."
"That is quite the reduction. You don't have to go into details, but I assume we lost many of them in the war. But why did we not bulster our forces after Voldemort was destroyed?" He asked.
"A mixture of reasons. Mostly corruption in the government." She said, a sour look on her face. "I don't wish to be rude Heir Thornwood, but is there a point to this?"
"Of course, I have but a few more questions before I take my leave. Is the Ministry still largely corrupt?" He asked.
"In many ways yes. The Wizengamot is split into two main factions with a smattering of smaller ones in between them. The light, led by Albus Dumbledore, and the dark, lead by Lucius Malfoy. Between them are the grey Families but they do not hold their own main faction, having split themselves. Because of this, much corruption is able to take place, and the Auror department tends to be first in line when it comes to budget cuts." She explained.
"Besides that, the wizarding community has also gotten much closer, as the only two really large shopping centers are diagon alley, along with its branching alleys, and Hogsmede. Outside of those places, the only real places that we patrol are the Ministry, St. Mungos, and the few magical communities that exist."
"And where do you lay upon these lines in the sand?" He asked.
"Light, but open to opinions from the other groups." She explained. Harry nodded, not supremely surprised by her answer
"Of course. Now those questions indeed had a purpose. Whilst my family may not be the richest out there, I would like to give donations to where I see needs them." He said pulling out a checkbook. "Give this to Gringotts and I'll clear it with them. There, fifty thousand galleons to Madam Amelia Bones for use as she sees fit to help the Auror corps." He smiled. Amelia tightened her Occlumency shields, allowing her to keep a straight face, while inside she was dumbfounded. "It's not the heftiest amount, but it should help."
Amelia quickly securred her Occlumency shields, keeping herself from becoming a stuttering mess. After a moment to compose herself, she gave the boy a wary look. "And what brought this on?"
"Clout." Harry said simply. "My personal belief is that we should have more Aurors, even if we are not in war time. But personal beliefs aside, my family has very little in Political clout after being dormant for so many years." He explained. A look of anger passed over the Director's face.
"So you are buying my alliance is that all?" She retorted.
"Of course not. This gift is multilayered. It opens me up to many avenues, simply by giving you money. I also get to fund the Aurors, as my personal beliefs state. But if you want a more specific reason, I have a favor to ask...
"I see your visit to Madam Bones was productive." Remus stated the next morning. He was sipping tea while reading the newspaper.
Ministry held up for hours due to security breach!
Auror department obtained 50,000 Galleon Donation from the Most Ancient and Most Noble house of Thornwood.
By Andrew Hillgran
Ministry of magic brought to a standstill as the Heir to the Thornwood Family donates fifty thousand galleons.
Due to an unspecified security breach in the DMLE itself, the Ministry of Magic was brought to a hold for four hours yesterday. When asked, Madam Bones simply said,
"A member of our department was attacked and found locked up in one of our holding cells. Such an action had to be answered with equal couteraction, resulting in the four hour screening."
Madam Bones was later seen entering and exiting Gringotts, before making several orders for dragon hide armor along with spelling dummies. When asked, she told us that Hadrian Thornwood was in her office earlier that day and had donated a substantial amount of Galleons to the Department. We could not get in touch with the Heir to the Thornwood clan, but Madam Bones informed us that Hadrian Thornwood was shocked by the current amount of Aurors and the department's budget status.

"Well, It's not a bad article, much better than Skeeter's." Harry smiled.
"Indeed. However this will definitely raise questions when the Wizengamot meets in a month." Remus said flipping the page over.
"Well, I wouldn't want you to get too comfy as my Proxy now would I?" Harry smirked.
"Well since you stated you wanted to hold off on any major political moves until you officially take the seat yourself, All I have had to deal with is the Werewolf haters." He continued.
"True. But remember, you being there is just you biting your thumb at them." Harry laughed. Remus and Ambrose joined in before they continued breakfast.
"Back already?" Hephaestus spoke, his attention solely on his work.
"Indeed Sir, I'm here for my test." Harry said as he set down a case.
"Oh? I take it that those are your gatherings." The forge god said.
"Yes Sir. Not nearly as extensive as your collection, but I believe it's a fine start." Harry smiled. Hephaestus finally put down his tools and approached his apprentice.
"Then with all certainty, I, Hephaestus, Master of Hadrian James Potter, give you my blessing to try your hand at Focci Crafting." He said. A bright light flashed as Runes glowed throughout the forge. The room started to shake before A door appeared in the hallway between the store front and the workshop.
"What happened?" Harry asked as the rumbling called down.
"I have unsealed the room I made for you when I thought you were ready for the Mark of the Adept test. It is where you shall house your materials until such a time that you take the Mark of Mastery exam. But that is not for a much longer time. Now, Is there anyone that you would like to craft a focci for as your test?" Hephaestus asked.
"Yes actually, I invited someone from school to come get a new focci, as theirs was... breaking down." Harry said as he looked at the clock on the wall. "And he should be here in a few minutes." He said as he went towards the front door.
"Put your materials in your room. I shall guide your friend in, as is tradition of those of the Hephaestus apprentices." The Forge God smiled. Harry nodded before entering the room and unpacking his materials. "Who is it I am looking for?" Hephaestus called out.
"A very tall man with a long black beard." Harry yelled.
"A very vague description, wouldn't you say?" His master called back.
"You'll know him when you see him. There's no one else quite like Hagrid out there." Harry smiled as he finished setting up.
"Sure sure." The god said as he stepped outside. It was cloudy and many magicals roamed the Alley. "Reminds me why i dont like going outside." Hephaestus snorted. Being from Greece, it was quite cold to him as he repressed a shutter. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted someone that could only be who Harry described.
Hagrid looked around, not being able to find Harry. He looked at his watched once more and looked around again. "Pardon me, would you be Hagrid?" A voice said as someone tapped on the half giant's back. Said man turned around and saw an older man with a balding head and good sized beard. He was also muscular, something that stood out quite a bit to the Grounds Keeper.
"I am. Who might you be?" Hagrid asked.
"I am Sidir, Hadrian's master. He is setting up his materials right now and asked me to procure you." Hephaestus explained. Hagrid smiled and shook the man's hand.
"A pleasure t' meet ya! I'm quite excited, 'specially since what Harry did fer me." Hagrid smiled. "Oh, the Headmaster wanted to come along as well. D'ya mind if I grab him real fast?" He asked.
"Go ahead, I shall remaim here." The master smith said. Hagrid lumbered off and a few minutes later he returned with Dumbledore.
"You must be Mr. Thornwood's Master. He has spoken quite highly of you." Dumbledore said shaking Hephaestus's hand.
"And you his Headmaster. I would say more, but Hadrian is most likely ready for us." He said as he led them to the shop. Dumbledore looked at the facade in a calculative manor before they entered. When he got in, he saw Hagrid squeezing the life out of Harry.
"Air!" Harry wheezed. Hagrid chuckled before releasing the boy. "It... was nothing Hagrid. I felt you should have the same opportunities as anyone else. And since you haven't been able to legally use a wand to take any of your exams, not to mention you were unjustly imprisoned, I felt I had to do something." Harry smiled after catching his breath.
"But t' get the DMLE Director herself!?" Hagrid asked.
"I already was in a meeting with her and broached the subject. But, we can talk about that later. Right now we need to craft you a focci." Harry smiled.
"What do I need t' do?" Hagrid asked.
"First, you need to touch these trinkets." He explained, motioning to Sidir's devices. Dumbledore looked at them as well, trying to decipher their enchantments. Hagrid went around and placed his hand on them until he was back at the counter. Behind Harry a single light was lit. "Ah, Hagrid you get yourself a new wand it seems." Harry smiled.
"Now if you will follow me." The group followed, entering the material room. "Now Hagrid, I need you to wave your hand over all these wood blocks I have here." Harry said. "And keep going, even if you find one."
For the next few minutes the Half giant went around and waved his hand until he came back holding a single pale block of wood. "Birch then. That makes sense. Now do the same with these material jars. Oh, did you bring what I requested?" Harry asked.
"I got 'em right 'ere." Hagrid said pulling out three crystal vials. Two held a black liquid while the third had a tooth. "Two bottle's of acromantula venom and a tooth from Fluffy." Hagrid smiled. Harry took out a loupe and studied the materials closely.
"Yes... these will do nicely. Thank you Hagrid." Harry said as he added them to the table. "Please continue." Hagrid went out again and returned with a vial of liquid. "Oh how interesting. This shall be quite the wand." Harry smiled, getting excited. "Now, we must go to the next room, where you shall pick out a gemstone, should one resonate with you." He explained before they travelled to Sidir's storeroom. After a moment, Hagrid returned with a tiny blue-white gem. "Alright Hagrid I have everything I need, except a drop of blood." Harry said pulling out a crystal vial and silver needle. With a quick prick, they had the blood.
"Alright Hagrid, Headmaster, if you two would return to the store front, this next part is where the true test begins, and only master's and students are allowed to see." Hephaestus explained. The two nodded before they group split up.
"Are you ready Hadrian?" Hephaestus asked.
"I am." He responded. Hephastus nodded as they donned their protective gear, before they went over to the work bench. Harry placed the wood down and clamped it to the table. He uncorked the liquid vial and let it soak into the wood. He then grabbed the gem and rounded it before carving the three runes that Haphaestus had inscribed into Harry's wand. He then dropped the blood on the gemstone before placing it on the wood as well.
Hephaestus was taking note of everything from the side, evaluating his skill, craftsmanship, and to see if he had indeed learned from him. Finally, they arrived at the final step of the crafting process. Harry raised his own wand and started chanting.
"Schimatíste ta stoicheía sti mageía, syndyáste ta tría gia na sfragísete me to aíma."
With a bright flash, it was done, and in his hands was a new wand. They returned to the store front, where Hagrid was fiddling nervously with his old pink umbrella, and Dumbledore was examining one of the devices. They both looked up as the two walked in. "How'd it go?" Hagrid asked.
"Your wand is complete, but the test is not over. Hadrian?" Hephaestus spoke. Harry pulled out a black velvet lined box and presented the wand.
"Your new wand Hagrid. Thirteen inches of Birch, the wood of new beginnings, with a core of Hippocampus Tears, and a gem of agate, slightly flexable. The tears represent your loyalty, trustfulness, but an inner strength to you. The agate, stablizes it, and represents a level of stability in yourself." He then gently took the wand out and handed it to the half giant. "Give it a whirl." Harry smiled. Hagrid nodded and twirled it in the air as Golden Sparks flew out of the tip.
"Blimey 'Arry, this is fantastic!" Hagrid said, tears forming in the corners of his eyes.
"Yes, Mr. Thornwood, well done. But, Mr. Sidir, what is the verdict on the exam?" Dumbledore asked curiously. They all turned towards the older smith, who was scratching his chin.
"Well, the wand turned out well, the spell work was a bit off, but that's to be expected from first timers. You know your theory and materials along with having obtained your own wood and living components. After going over everything, Hadrian, I am proud to award you the rank of Adept." Hephaetus smiled. The insignia on Harry's shirt glowed for a moment before it changed from bronze to silver, along with a second circle forming around it.
"Congrat's 'Arry!" Hagrid said pulling him into a softer hug than the one from earlier.
"Indeed Mr. Thornwood, Congratulations. It seems a new focci crafter is in the making. I was quite entertained myself at learning such properties of materials." Dumbledore smiled.
"Thank you Professor." Harry said.
"How much do I owe ya?" Hagrid asked.
"Well, since we agreed on the materials before hand, the only thing you need to pay for is the gemstone and the runes." Harry said. "And since the gemstone is fairly common, only five Galleons." Harry said.
"That's less than Olivander's." Hagrid said as he handed over the money.
"Well it would have been more, but like I said you got me some rare materials." Harry smiled.
"Runes?" Dumbledore asked.
"Yes. The Gemstone is enscribed with three runes that are quite common on wands. Places like Olivanders, which doesn't use gems, usually carves them into the wand." Harry explained before going into the purpose of the runes.
Dumbledore was quite suprised by the soon to be second year's knowledge on runes, but listened closely, eager to learn more. "That is quite interesting Mr. Thornwood, I'm surprised you are aloud to tell customers about such enchantments."
"Well, it's some of the most common knowledge that is divulged by all crafters." Harry explained. Hephaestus nodded, signaling he was correct.
"Well Hagrid, it seems now that our business is finished we must be off. We need to get your supplies after all." Dumbledore explained. Hagrid hugged Harry once more before they turned to leave, a glint in Dumbledore's eye. After they were gone, Hephaestus twirled his hand as a pulse of magic shot into the walls.
"Good, no listening charms." He said as they say down. "Congratulations Hadrian. I had not expected when you had first joined me that you would have become an adept in simply a few years. Usually the minimum time is five." He praised. "I don't really trust your headmaster, as I'm sure you understand." He said. Harry let out a bitter laugh.
"While I respect him for teaching and defeating Grindlewald, there is much animosity between us. But it seems he was only helping Hagrid get ready for his upcoming exams." Harry said.
"Yes, although he did seem to be quite interested in the shop. Perhaps he recognized that this is a moving building." Hephaestus theorized.
"It could be. But, let's not rain on my parade." Harry smiled. "What are my duties now that I am an Adept?"
"You will be given the chance to use what you learned and actually craft focci. The mastery test I will not allow you to take until you are finished with Hogwarts, so there is no need to worry about that. When a customer comes in, I will direct them to both material rooms. Should they pick your materials, any at all, then you shall work on their focci." The God explained. Harry nodded, a look of determination on his face.
"Speaking of which, you've aquired some interesting materials during your time at school." He said holding up a vial of acromantula venom. "Venom of an Elder Acromantula Chief, quite rare and valuable. Not to mention Mimir's gifts." Hephaestus said.
"Indeed, I hope I can one day make something from them that is incredible." Harry said, a far off look on his face.
"Indeed. Now, report back here in three days." The God said as he kicked Harry out. The young heir quickly returned home to his family, who was waiting quite diligently near the floo.
"How'd it go?" Remus asked once he vanished the ash on his shoulders. Harry turned his shoulder to display the new emblem.
"I am now an adept focci crafter." Harry smiled.
"Congratulations Hadrian!" Ambrose said from one of his frames as Remus hugged him in joy.
"We must celebrate tonight. What would you like?" Remus asked.
"How about a Shepards pie with Treacle Tart?" Harry smiled. With a quick word with the house elves, the two were quickly off having fun around the manor as they celebrated.
...
"You know Moony, I was thinking." Harry said as they finished up their dinner. "I think we should spend some time in the muggle world this summer."
"Really? What brought this on?" Remus said as he sipped his tea.
"Well, when I was talking to Madam Bones, she said that Britain has over 57 million muggles. While I don't exactly like muggles, I will say they have come up with some incredible inventions." He explained.
"I would think it best if we at least were somewhat learned about their practices and see what we could possibly utilize ourselves." Harry explained.
"Wonderful points Hadrian." Ambrose spoke up. "Besides, with your future career, you would probably utilize a better understanding of muggle ways as to better fit in when you have to traverse for long periods of time."
"Very well then, we shall have an outing to the muggle world at some point." Remus obliged as the elves brought out the tart.
A few days later, Harry was up somewhat early as they were preparing for their venture. Remus was transfiguring their clothes to look more muggle, well as muggle as wizards who hardly ever go to the mundane world that is.
When they were done, Harry was dressed in black trousers, and a neon green t-shirt. Remus had on a brown jacket, and brown slacks. Over all, they could pass in the muggle world, but they looked a bit off.
"We'll have to obtain actual clothes when we arrive." Remus said.
"Where is it that we are headed any way?" Harry asked.
"The closest city is called Glasgow. We shall be there for the day." Remus explained as they walked out of the manor. Remus held out his hand, allowing Harry to grab on before they disapparated away.
They reappeared in an alley way, scaring a cat from the noise. "Shall we?" Remus asked.
And that's it for chapter 24, and the end of the first part of summer. I wasn't super happy with this chapter, but I couldn't find a better way to write it. yes, it's two chapters, a lot happens and I didn't what one continuous chapter. Question, cuzz i cant find it or remember if I ever stated in what part of the UK Thornwood manor was in. Did i at all? I bid you all adieu.
