You could always ship a new Original character. After all, there are likely 3-4 girls in the year below Harry in Gryffindor including I think Demzela Robbins (eventually became chaser after Angela and Alicia graduated) and none of them are really defined that you can make them whatever you want and define them to fit your need. Ginny is not the only one in her year.

I get where you're going but you're trying to get there way too fast.. the whole Snape confrontation was severely rushed and made unbelievable. Snape would not cower so quickly and do a public apology. To be honest you've practically turned Harry into Draco. As far as pairings I don't understand your logic in Tracey or Daphne not making sense and Luna does? Katie might be in the same house and on the quidditch team but they've hardly interacted so she really makes no sense either. If you want conflict with Ron and Hermione later then it makes better sense for Harry to get with someone they wouldn't approve of like a Slytherin. Hell maybe someone like Daphne can teach him how to be cunning instead of a blabbering douche Malfoy clone.
