My favourite movies are: Jurassic Park series, Pirates of the Caribbean series, Doomsday, and the Underworld Series. There's probably more I enjoy, but I can't think of them right now. I'm pretty much cool with any straight pairing, as long as I like the characters, although I do get bored of seeing the same thing over and over, so despite being a big fan of pairings like Ichigo and Rukia, or Natsu and Lisanna, I often prefer to see other pairings that are totally random, like Ichigo and Hinamori, or Natsu and Chelia. I dislike Slash, Yuri, Yaoi, or any other variant of the words. That said, if the story doesn't focus on it, and it's only a subelement I might give it a try, but I will of course ignore the parts I don't like. No point in letting something I don't like ruin an otherwise good story, after all. That said, there are some slash, yuri, or what-have-you pairings that I do think are a good fit, and they might even be a favourite pairing of mine. I still wouldn't read a story that focused on that pairing, but I can admit when a pairing is a good pairing. Challenges: Please contact me if your going to take the challenge, as I would like to see who's taking it, and see how it's going. You may also ask about anything you might want to change from the challenge, and depending on how it's presented, I might allow it. Also feel free to ask about anything you're unsure of.
Pet Peeves In Fan Fiction: 1. One of the worst things you can do, in my opinion, is declare that you're writing your story in English, by clicking the English option under language, when submitting the story, and then throwing in random bits of romanized Japanese dialogue. It doesn't matter if they're using the Roman Alphabet to spell the words, it's still Japanese. If I wanted to read romanized Japanese, copy and paste your story onto Google Translate. It doesn't add anything to your story, nor does it make you seem smart. Instead, it makes you seem like a prick. Now, I understand if, say, in a Naruto story, you use a word like Hokage, or Sharingan, or Byakugan, without translating it. That's normal. Those are titles, and as such, they should be treated as proper nouns. But don't go writing out an entire attack name, like Sasuke's Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu, in Japanese. You can use something like Taijutsu, or Genjutsu, to describe the arts, but make sure each individual technique is actually in English. The names of the arts are titles of the arts, so deserve to be capitalized, but the Jutsu name isn't deserving of the same thing. The Jutsu is a tool. To use an example and metaphor, Sasuke's Great Fireball Jutsu is nothing but a tool to create art in the Fire Style of the Ninjutsu school of art. If it's just a tool, why would you write it's name in Japanese? We don't call a paintbrush a huabi just because some Chinese guy created it in 300 BCE, so we shouldn't write jutsu names in Japanese. That's basically all I'm saying. Actual honorifics, such as -san, -chan, -kun, -sama, and -dono, are also alright to use, if you feel you must, or if you want to imply that multiple languages are spoken during your story, and want to make a distinction that someone is speaking Japanese, specifically, or is from Japan, and uses such honorifics instinctively. 2.Starting off a story with people who are a main character best friends, betraying him/her. I'll admit, I've gone through a phase where I thought such stories were good, but for the most part, that phase doesn't last long, and so a writer of such stories, unless they're effing brilliant, won't have many readers for very long. More importantly, it's unbelievable. Humans are creatures of habit. They don't like change. Betraying someone so suddenly, is a huge change. I see it very often in Pokemon fics, where Ash is betrayed by everyone he's ever even so much as crossed paths with on the street. Regardless of the series, it's ridiculous. I can understand one or two people betraying a main character, but even then, only if it's done smartly. If you don't want the main character to be working with these characters anymore, start over from scratch. Mass betrayal solves nothing, and, in fact, causes more problems. I've seen it happen where authors do this, back when I thought such stories were good, and all of a sudden, the author realized they had nobody else to work with and either stopped writing, claiming they had written themselves into a corner, (without admitting it was because of their story idea as a whole), or ended up solving it by bringing back some characters who were Loyal-All-Along. So, really, just save yourself the embarrassment, and don't write such fics, unless it's just one or two people doing the betraying, and it's for an actual plot reason, and not just because you don't like the character. 3. Overpowered Main Characters. I'm not saying you can't have a character reach this point naturally throughout the course of your story. That's fine. It's called progression. But starting the story out with God Mode activated for them is boring and annoying. Whether it's Naruto Uzumaki, Ash Ketchum, Harry Potter, Daisuke Motimiya, Natsu Dragneel, or what have you, having the character start out stronger than all his or her peers and enemies is beyond foolish, because we'll never see him or her struggle. This doesn't apply of course if combat isn't central to your story, but if it is, be careful this doesn't come back to bite you, as you will probably grow bored of it. 4. This is a Harry Potter Series only pet peeve, but when people describe Hermione as beautiful, I cringe and wonder if they ever read the books. Yes, I know Emma Watson, Hermione's actress in the movies, is a good looking girl. I wouldn't describe her as beautiful, but I can see how some people might. The problem is, is that Hermione's character in the books is described as having bushy hair and an overbite. Granted, she fixed the overbite in her fourth year, by letting Madam Pomfrey shrink her front teeth further than necessary after Draco cursed her, but her hair was still bushy. She only looked good at the Yule Ball because she utilized a gratuitous amount of Harry's grandfather's invention, Sleekeazy's Hair Potion. A rather expensive solution to her bush-like hair for a single evening. It didn't fix it indefinitely after all, and she can't afford to go wasting that many galleons every day. It was a one-time thing, not a permanent solution. And it certainly didn't fix her look before then either. Hermione herself even stated she had to use a liberal amount of it, and that it was far too much trouble to use it every day. 5. People who fix characters ages so that they're not under eighteen. I don't care what the reasoning for it is, but age fixing so that all characters are over eighteen is lazy, and a cop out. It's one thing if you're writing a future story where the character would have naturally aged to or past that point, but don't just suddenly decide you're going to make everyone over eighteen. Especially if you're only doing it to fix one characters age, and nobody else is getting their age changed accordingly. "Love isn't brains, children. It's blood. Blood screaming from inside you to work it's will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it " Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "The only thing worse then death, is to be forgotten." Freya's title opening from Final Fantasy IX. "We gladly feast on those who would subdue us." Addams Family Motto. "You don't need a reason to help people." Zidane's Title opening from Final Fantasy IX. "Just because it's never been proven stupidity isn't contagious, doesn't mean it isn't." Don't remember who said it. "You should never be cowed by authority. Except, of course, in this instance, when I am clearly right and you are clearly wrong." Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "When does a man die? When he is shot in the heart by a bullet? No. When he is ravaged by a disease? No. When he eats a soup made out of a poisonous mushroom? No. A man dies when he is forgotten!" Dr. Hiluluk from One Piece. "Let them laugh! Anyone who wants to be a first-rate man, will encounter a time when there's no reason to fight back.'' Marshall D. Teach from One Piece. "You want to keep everyone from dying? That's naive. It's a war; people die." Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. "There are only two worlds – your world, which is the real world, and the other worlds, the fantasy. Worlds like this are worlds of the human imagination; their reality, or lack of reality, is not important. What is important is that they are there. These worlds provide an alternative. Provide an escape. Provide a threat. Provide a dream, and power; provide refuge, and pain. They give your world meaning. They do not exist, and thus they are all that matters. Do you understand?"
