UPDATE—12/8/15: Kanto 9 is in the process of being written. I've got like 10.5k words done. I'm going to try and give you guys updates on the status of the chapters every once in a while, so pay attention to my profile. Thank You!

UPDATE—12/10/15: So, I've been able to get a good chunk of writing in the past couple of days. I'm at roughly 13.5k for Kanto 9; I really want to get it to you guys before the end of the year. I've written a lot of training scenes and scenes that focus on Ash's relationships with his pokemon. Expect a lot of focus on Charmander. He really seems to be getting a lot of screen time. Anyways, I'm going to keep trying to give you the status of he chapter on my profile, so pay attention.

UPDATE—12/16/15: I've been on a writing tear the last few days. In total, I've got 20.5k words done for Kanto 9. I really like the way this chapter is turning out by the way. I think it will be a great change of pace and really fun for you guys to read! I'm not quite sure how much longer it will end up being, but I'll try and keep you updated on the status of the chapter! UPDATE—12/20/15: Alright, so I'm really starting to fear that I won't get this chapter out by the new year. I still have some important scenes to write before I feel comfortable releasing it, and my Beta Reader, Pwnerbrad, will have to take a look at it afterwards. Sorry, guys. Over the past four days, I've been able to write about 4,000 words, putting the chapter at 24k. This one will probably sit somewhere between 30 and 35k. I may be willing to release a little teaser scene as a Christmas present, on my profile, if that is something you guys would be interested in. However, you'll have to let me know. If I get a few PM requests, I'll pick a scene out of Kanto 9 to release on the profile. If it goes well, maybe I'll start posting a teaser scene in between each chapter. Well, anyways, it's just an idea. Hopefully, some of you see this. Shoot me a PM! Woo!

UPDATE—12/24/15: Okay, so Kanto 9 is at 28k. I've been working hard on it, albeit these next few days will be slow writing wise because of Christmas. Gotta spend time with the wife. She supports my writing, but things are a little different come holidays :P...Anyways, I'm going to put up the teaser scene below the update section. I think it may become a regular thing too. Keep in mind that the teaser scene will be included in the chapter. Also, if you read the scene, please review. I would like to hear your thoughts.

UPDATE—12/30/15: Because of the holidays, I've been crazy busy the last week with family and friend related activities. The chapter is at 31.5k, and I still have a few more scenes to write. Hopefully, I'll get it to you guys soon.

UPDATE—12/31/15: Happy New Years Eve! Thank you everyone for supporting Essence during 2015! I've loved writing it, and I can't wait to see where it goes in 2016. Just a heads up, I've finished writing Kanto 9. I went on a writing tear today. Kanto 9 will cover the majority of the trip to Celadon, like pretty much all of it, although he won't step foot in Celadon until Kanto 10. This is probably my favorite chapter that I've written. It gets pretty deep into Ash's relationship with his pokemon. I can't wait for you guys to read it. If you love character development this is the chapter for you. I just need to edit it and send it to my beta reader. I should have it to you within the next week.

UPDATE—1/3/16: Thank you for all of the support that you guys have given me through reviews. I have taken the last couple of days off of writing, but I plan on starting Kanto 10 tomorrow. I want to clear something up. Just because I have talked about Ash wanting to catch a certain pokemon, like scyther or abra, doesn't mean he will. Life doesn't always give you what you want, and although Ash will catch some more pokemon in Kanto, nothing that I have hinted to is set in stone.

UPDATE—1/10/16: Well, after taking a couple of days off of writing, I wrote the first two major scenes of Kanto 10 and part of the third scene. In total, the chapter is presently a little over 8k in length. There's a possibility that I will release a teaser scene sometime in the next week or two, but if I keep up my current pace, I might not have to. I wrote a lot more than usual last week. Hopefully, I can keep it up. Thank you for all of the support.

UPDATE—1/20/16: Wow, I just realized that I haven't posted on my profile in ten days. I'm sorry, guys. Anyways, with how things are shaping up, I'd expect Kanto 10 sometime around the beginning of February. I've got about 17k done. So far, I think it's going to be a pretty interesting chapter.

UPDATE—1/29/16: Once again, I took forever to update my profile status. Sorry, guys, I need to get better at this whole profile thing. Anyways, GOOD NEWS! I've finished writing Kanto 10. It's a little bit shorter, about 25k, but I'm happy with where I left it off. All I have to do is edit it, and I'll have it out to you guys, so expect it sometime this weekend. I'm pushing for two chapters this month. It'll be the first time I've ever managed to get two out in one month, so I'm pretty thrilled about it. Great way to start out 2016. Expect me to get it to all of you late Saturday, possibly Sunday.

UPDATE—2/1/16: Hey, guys! Thanks for all of the great things that you have had to say about Kanto 10, it means a lot. If you haven't already reviewed, please do, it's really nice to hear your thoughts. Just so you guys know, I started Kanto 11 today. After taking one day to just chill and catch up on some other things, I've gotten the first thousand words or so finished. I'm going to try and stick to my 25,000 to 35,000 word range for this next chapter, but depending on the content that I include things could vary. Anyway, be patient, I'll try and finish Kanto 11 by the end of February.

UPDATE—2/10/16: Kanto 11 is at 9000 words right now. I haven't been able to write as much as I would have liked the past week. I finished writing the Department Store, which isn't nearly as in depth as and detailed as I normally go. However, we just had Silph Co. headquarters, so I think that's a good thing. Anyways, I'm having somewhat of a dilemma. I want to get out a chapter on my stories one year anniversary, which is in the middle of March. If I release one of my normal lengthy chapters this month, there's no way I will get Kanto 12 done by the one year anniversary. So, it's either I release one huge chapter next month, and you don't get a chapter in February, or I release a small chapter sometime in the next week, and you'll get a chapter in March as well. PM me about what you would rather have...

UPDATE—2/15/16: I'm still somewhat up in the air about what to do with the next chapter. Some of you guys have been pushing for a smaller chapter, whereas some of you have been pushing for a bigger chapter. I'm almost debating whether or not releasing a chapter on the one year anniversary is worth it. But, I guess we'll see. Due to my first Valentine's Day with my wife and a bunch of other stuff going on in my life, I haven't been able to write as much as usual. Be that as it may, Kanto 11 is sitting at 11k, and I'll be trying to get it done as soon as possible. I know where I want to leave it off, but sometimes getting there takes a lot longer than I originally anticipated. I have an obsession when it comes to character development, so my plot can be significantly slowed down because of it. Anyway, stay on the lookout for Kanto 11.

UPDATE—2/25/16: I find myself once again apologizing for not updating my profile as frequently as I have promised. Sorry for that. Also, thanks for all of the support that you guys have given Kanto 11. I'll taking a short break from writing. Plan on getting Kanto 12 by the end of March.

UPDATE—3/3/16: I've gotten about 6k done of Kanto 12. Like I said, I'm taking my time with this one. This last year straight of writing almost everyday has been rewarding but also exhausting. Please be patient with me.

UPDATE—3/13/16: Want to let you all know that the likelihood of a March chapter is rather low. I've got 14k done, but like I've said I'm taking my time.

UPDATE—3/17/16: I've written 17k! The gym battle is taking a lot longer than I expected it to. Once I finish writing the battle, I've got a lot more to fit into Kanto 12, but it should be a pretty good sized chapter once I'm finished. I've tried the smaller chapters the last few times, so I want to shake it up with a big one this time. Continue to be patient! You'll get it eventually.

UPDATE—3/25/16: 24k done. Finished the gym battle...working on closing up Celadon before Ash heads to Fucshia.

UPDATE—4/6/16: I've got one more scene to write until I finish writing Kanto 13. It's at nearly 32k. I'm excited to get this one to you; it's a good one. I'd expect you'll be reading it no later than next week, hopefully I can get it to you sooner. Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE—4/19/16: Thanks for all the nice things you guys said about Kanto 12. As for Kanto 13, I've just now started it. It'll be out sometime in May.

UPDATE—5/1/16: I know this isn't what you guys want to hear, but Essence will be on a temporary break. I love writing, but I would like to take a some time in order to do other things. If you're afraid that I'm abandoning this story, don't be. Essence is practically a part of me now, and I would never leave it. I just need some time to do some other things. The next chapter will likely be out sometime this summer. I'm still working on Kanto 13, although my writing pace has been much slower. Remember, this is temporary. Essence will for a fact be back.

UPDATE—6/24/16: Essence will be back eventually. Real life has been kicking my ass lately. Be patient. Read Traveler, by Straight Elf in the meantime.

UPDATE—3/17/17: For anybody, that's wondering. No, Essence has not been abandoned. This past year I have gone back to school on top of working full-time. I love writing, so I will come back to it eventually. But, when life is busy like this, I cannot make Essence my top priority. Kanto 13 will come out at some point, and when it does...it will not disappoint. Please remember that writing FanFiction is not my occupation.

UPDATE – 6/22/17: It's been a couple of months since I last updated my bio. Due to a passionate fan of Essence, I felt like I had to check in. I am still swamped with everything. I am about to start the process of reviewing my fic. Unfortunately, time can even blur an author's recollection of his own fic. Thank you for all you fans that have stayed patient.
