...'shrugs' I'm gonna be honest here, I can only write as I'm playing one of these games. Since the complete bullshit that was the ending of mass effect 3, I've lost all desire to play that series. On hiatus until I forgive bioware for that horrible ending. 'After Anthem that is seeming less and less likely.'

Somethings been bothering me lately.

Ramblings and Brain Spew about writing.

I make no claims of being a master writer but I have learned a few important lessons due to the sheer amount of reading I have done.

Any story over 5k words in length must have a good mixture of both movement and dialog.

Put simply, a story that consists of near nothing but talking is not acceptable. neither is a story that can not explain it's own actions. ooc is fine, this is fanfiction after all and changing the actions and reaction of events and people are the driving force that is required to alter events. All actions however, must obey the rules that the writer set's within there own story. These rules are not listed by the writer but are shown thorough the circumstances of the characters they are writing. There can not be a drastic change that goes against those self made rules simply because the writer wishes it so.

Stories that do not put proper warnings are not ok.

If your going to slip triggers into stories then ALWAYS put those trigger warnings in the authors notes or summery. Surprising the reader is not more important then the readers mental health.

Statement Stories

Sometimes you read something and you lament the time you wasted doing so. Statement stories fall into this category. This person did this then that person does that then the first person punched a hufflepuff. Movement, motivation, habits... do not explain these things. Your supposed to be presenting your characters as people who have these characteristics, meaning an explanation shouldn't be required as the reader will learn these things as the story progresses. Not only will this result in more descriptive storytelling but it will also give the writer freedom to adapt to their characters as they write. Meaning they haven't completely locked themselves into a certain character mold. On that note...

Stop describing you character!

Once again, an omniscient tally of your characters looks, personality, likes and dislikes are not things to be filled in like an online dating website. Your first chapter begins by something happening. Then something else happens... so on and on. As the story progress we learn more about the characters by how they react to events and people they interact with. The comments and actions those people have towards your characters will eventually lead to a general idea of who your characters are while leaving the writer with room to adapt.

Incompetent Villans

If they were really that stupid and easy to trick or defeat then how did they get where they are? Ask the man with the inkblot face how that worked out.
