Update (9/3/14): So here we are again...

It's been six years since I've updated my profile, and about four and a half since I updated FL2. I am a horrible person. Thanks to an anonymous review on FL2, however, I was inspired to start rewriting the fic because it didn't pass up to my current standards. I've gotten to... chapter 5. Horrible person, as I said. But I will progress, and I will post the revision as well as finish the story. Then I can focus on Harry Potter and the Seven-Split Soul.

So, to anyone who trawls through the profiles of the authors of your well-liked but seemingly abandoned fics to see if they're still alive and writing (which is something I do, by the way... still hoping to see Jono's profile magically update with the next chapter of Stranger in the Promised Land), here it is: I am alive, and I've been writing. There will be an update. I don't know when. But it will happen.

Everything beyond this point is my unedited profile from October 7, 2008 (I really need to update it, too).

I was born on the twentieth of August, 1988. I live near Muncie, Indiana, which is in the Midwest of the United States. I've been a fan of fanfiction for many years now, but it all started with the Final Fantasy VII Internet Series by Frank Verderosa. Since he has now left the fanfiction scene, and since it's difficult to find his stories, I've decided to upload them under my profile. I take no credit for the work. Recently, however, I have started on two fanfics of my own.

My favorite TV series is Star Trek, with Deep Space Nine topping my favorite TV shows. Also notable is a little series called Firefly, a show that went before its time. In the realm of books, nothing can really top Harry Potter. My favorite teacher ever read us the first three books in fifth grade back in '99, and I've followed the series since. PS/SS was alright, CoS was rather good, PoA was great, GoF was good, OotP is the best book I've ever read, HBP was pretty good, and DH was a damn disappointment. When it comes to movies, #1 is Pulp Fiction.

In my spare time, I read and play games. My favorite game would have to be Final Fantasy VII, but the game I play the most is undoubtedly Freelancer. I'm a modder for that game, and love it to death.

Likes: Well written fics, long fics, sci-fi, action, things that are unique, and things that fit in well with established fictional universes.

Dislikes: Romance (vomit), fics with really short chapters, poorly written fics, short fics, things that don't mesh well with established fictional universes (Super Harry is a prime example), and things that are mundane.

Freelancer Two: Revolution: A story set eight years after Freelancer that finds Trent knee-deep in trouble. Note: I've decided that intermittent updates just isn't doing it. I'm going to complete the story, then post the rest in its entirety.

There are several fics in my favorite list, and they're all good; I don't just put any story there. However, there are good fics, and then there are great fics. Here are a few of the latter:

Grey Maiden Series (Chris Widger): The best AU Harry Potter fic I've ever read. Harry, taken by one of Lily Potter's best friends, grows up to be a genuine Slytherin. This series is realistic, has great balance, and is fun to read. All of the books are long enough that you can absorb the world. This complete rewrite of J.K.'s universe is currently on the fifth book, which is already shaping up to be as good as its predecessors.

The Stranger Trilogy (serpant-sorcerer/Jono): One of my all time favorite reads. Thrown into a universe that's upside-down, Harry Potter must fight in a new world where nothing is as it seems. The action scenes in these fics are so detailed and great that they are more fun to read than many of the best action films are to watch. A Stranger in an Unholy Land is nearly 450k words, and every single one of those words has a place. A Stranger in the Promised Land, while starting out slow, is shaping up to be a worthy sequel. My only complaint is the time between updates; the last one took from January of '08 to the middle of September. Of course, the newest chapter and the one before that took me literally an hour to read each, so these are by no means small updates. More recent updates can be found on Jono's Yahoo group, and you should read it there anyway; the format here at fanfiction.net doesn't fully display what he has correctly.

The Darkness Within/A Part of Me/Deepest Reflections (Kurinoone): Another great AU story. Instead of fully betraying the Potters, Peter Pettigrew takes young Harry straight to Voldemort. Sixteen years later... well, read and find out. The Darkness Within is long, has plenty of turns, and is just fun to read. A Part of Me I didn't like as much, though it's still better than a lot of the drivel I've seen. Deepest Reflections is turning out to be my favorite of the series. The action is heating up, and now that the s--t has hit the fan, I'm interested in seeing how it plays out.

Browncoat, Green Eyes (nonjon): I'd heard of Firefly before I read this fic, but I knew next to nothing about it. After reading this Firefly/Harry Potter fic, I went out and bought the entire series and the movie, simply because I was so intrigued by the 'verse that had been created. Harry is awoken in 2518 to a brand new world, and he soon finds himself fitting in perfectly with Malcolm Reynolds and the crew of Serenity. At first it's a straight Firefly fic, but around the middle it delves head on into J.K.'s universe while never leaving Joss Whedon's. It's a very long fic that is well written and very fun. My only real complaint (which only emerged after seeing Firefly) was that the characters of Firefly aren't exactly themselves. They act the same, but nonjon just wasn't quite able to capture them. I really noticed this in the way they speak.

The Psychic Serpent Trilogy (barb): Psychic Serpent. Pretty much the most well known Harry Potter fic ever written. Barb captures every character better than J.K. herself in that abomination called Deathly Hallows. Picking up where Goblet left off, we follow all the Potter characters through the Second Wizarding War. It involves the Dursleys (confession: Petunia Dursley is my favorite Potter character) quite well, it portrays everything believably, and is long. One (rather large) downside is it's rather large focus on romance. I won't say its NC-17, but it does follow some of the characters into the bedroom, so to speak. It has plenty of twists and turns to keep us guessing and, while featuring a bittersweet end, is still one of the greatest Potter fics ever. You won't find it on fanfiction.net though; you need to head over to FictionAlley to read this monster.

A Year Like None Other/A Summer Like None Other/A Family Like None Other (aspeninthesunlight): As a general rule, I don't like fics where Snape adopts Harry. For this, though, I'll make an exception. After the death of the Dursleys, Snape, seeing his error with Mr. Potter, takes him and Draco Malfoy under his wing, eventually adopting both. Harry, however, loses his magic due to the absolute bastard named Lucius Malfoy (who, in this portrayal, is more hatable than Voldemort himself). This fic is the longest I've ever read by far (96 chapters, 800k words), but it is worth it. I like Harry Potter fics that heavily involve Muggles (like the aforementioned A Stranger in an Unholy Land), and I like Dursley-redemption fics. Petunia and Vernon are horrid, but Dudley becomes very likeable and quite important. In the sequel A Summer Like None Other, Draco unwittingly falls for a Muggle woman (and this is done quite convincingly, too). None of these fics are on fanfiction.net; the first two are on FictionAlley, while the third can be found on skyehawke.

Promises Trilogy (Robin4): This fic is well written and very complex. Sirius Black remains Secret-Keeper and takes the Secret to the grave. The story is set ten years later, as James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew live their lives. Promises Unbroken is a bit short for my usual recommendation, but it's still long enough. Promises Remembered is longer, but I didn't like it as much. It was good, but not as good as PU. Promises Defended is currently in-progress, and has become my favorite of the trilogy. This fic is amazing in how it can twist your expectations. In what other fic can you find a believable cordial dinner between a Marauder and Lord Voldemort? That one (Chapter 29 of PD) was surreal, and one of my favorite chapters. The trilogy is rather uncommon in that Harry plays, at best, a supporting role. This story is about the Marauders and their friendship, with a sprinkling of other storylines. The world is deep and complex, but it's well worth immersing yourself in.

Galaxies Apart (Larbo): Out of the thousands of characters in the Star Wars universe (expanded included), my favorite character is easily Mitth'raw'nuruodo, better known by his core name of Thrawn. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to really write Thrawn's absolute genius of a tactical mind since Timothy Zahn introduced the character in his '92 Thrawn Trilogy. Nobody, that is, until Larbo. In this AU of the original Star Wars trilogy, the Death Star won at Yavin thanks to some help from a mysterious man from the future. Now another character from the future (who is, excluding his eventual turn to the Dark Side, probably my third favorite character, after Thrawn and Qui-Gon) helps our protagonists in a world quite different from Empire. Thrawn's tactics in this story are... incredible. This is by far my favorite Star Wars fic out there.

Fall of the Sith (Souderwan): This is my second favorite Star Wars fic. A distant second, to be sure, but that still places it very high on my list. Mace Windu (#4 on my favorite characters) kills Palpatine in the Chancellor's Office, but an unforeseen hitch arises in the process. The writing in this story is probably the best of any story I've ever seen. It's chock full of imagery, nay, poetry, it flows beautifully, and is vividly described. I don't even particularly think the plot is all that great (though it's not bad), I like this story based on its sheer writing. It has a prequel and a sequel, the former I've not read and the latter I've found not to my liking due to a rather large focus on romance. Nevertheless, Fall of the Sith is a must read for anyone who remotely likes Star Wars.

Forward (Peptuck): As I said before, Firefly went before its time. Forward is a proposed second season of the sci-fi western, and it is very well written. Peptuck captures the characters in a way that nonjon just couldn't. The fic is slightly AU, due to a 90 degree spin and a few inches in one case, and quick medical treatment in another. Watching Firefly and its movie tie in Serenity are pretty much a must to get the full enjoyment from this. The first and second episodes are done (very well, I might add), and the third is in progress. I really look forward to this being done. Doing a full season is a huge undertaking, and I hope that Peptuck is up to the challenge.
