| Faith chapter 17 . 6/18 You know that pit in your stomach that you get when you re-watch a movie that hasn't held up well, and the rampant racism, sexism, homophobia, and general slimy shitty feeling leaves you not even able to enjoy the good parts you loved? Reading this in 2020 is like that. At a certain point, there's just too much; the horrifyingly racist "joke" that is the Potter house elf. The incredibly shallow and sexist depictions of the women who exist only to be Harry and Sirius' conquests. The inability for even a single female character to have true personality or agency of her own. (Living-sexual-fantasy tonks does NOT count) It's so sad to read this as an adult and see what cringey, proto-incel fucking trash it is. To realize that the themes of this story only reinforced that I was just a sexual object for being a woman. To realize how fucking gross the themes of this story are. You had so much talent, and you chose to refine it by writing this garbage. |
