nice story... sad but well done

I know this fic's been over for 6 years now, but I iust wanted to let you know that what you wrote is an incredibly touching story. Vernon is developed so well and it's great to see something so wholesome around the Dursley's when it's usually whipped this and tortured that. Thank you for this big dose of wholesomeness.

What a wonderful opening! I love what you did with Dumbledore’s letter. It was so logical and simple and I admire how understated it was. The birth announcement was a good recovery. I am looking forward to reading the rest.

Good ending. It is too bad that Dudley had to go back to school-but for once Vernon needed to put Harry first.

Harry has a point-but he's unhappy because someone whose hand he burned off is nervous around him? Seriously, dude, that's the Gryffindor talking on that one. The rest, yeah, Vernon should take the flack over it. But Gloria's a bit different.

I know, I know, any victim of Harry should be proud and happy to see him again, right?

Loraine makes a lot of sense, though I think I would have clouted Draco a lot sooner than Dudley did. I don't blame Drake for having trouble with the remote, though, his wizard genes might short out the batteries.

I'm glad to see he's learned a little bit.

Very good chapter! I don't blame Dudley for being upset-he knows he's lost Harry, and now Draco is sucking up all the oxygen in his place.

Well, it's not surprising that Harry developed magical reflexes to protect himself.

On the other hand, it might have been worth appealing to the magical world to help restore Samantha's hand-the whole Secrecy thing is pretty meaningless to the family by now. (and you have to wonder how many Muggle families know about the magical world by now-surely someone has gone to the SUN about it?).

I feel sorry for everyone involved, but Vernon has to protect the muggles in his care. Harry is under tremendous strain, but it's not a matter of just changing the colors of the kitchen any more.

Good chapter, and excellent insight from Loraine about how Harry is scared. Given some of the things he runs into at Hogwarts, and then again at home-he has good reason for it.

Dudley's resentment will be harder, really.

But I'm sure Dumbledore will just blow off Vernon-after all, it's not like Muggles are really people to him.

Poor Harry, I hope the Weasleys are all he hopes for in a family. It's clear that Vernon, though not abusive, isn't it.

Wonderful story. You do a brilliant job of showing Vernon as an honourable, good, and thoroughly imperfect man. A real man. It’s a subject I’ve thought of tackling myself but I don’t think I’ll bother now, I couldn’t do any better than this.

Sadly, Harry knows that his Uncle Vernon never really loved him, and that's too bad. But McGonagall is likely to get Harry killed at Hogwarts.

Who was really better for Harry?

Oh, dear. Now that Vernon is ok with Harry ending up bruised and battered because of Dudley, you have to wonder what else he'll overlook.
