![]() Author has written 3 stories for Naruto, and Stargate: SG-1. Last updated: 1/1/13 Deviantart Account: http:/// FANFICTION: MY ANTI-DRUG. because, who has time for drugs if you're reading and plotting and writing and checking reviews? Current Fics Second Chances: Naruto fic. Second Chances is now undergoing a complete rewrite. I am so sorry to leave everyone hanging like I have with SC. I fell into a bit of a trap on how to get from A to B and never got out of it. In the years since (still kinda amazes me how long it's been), other stuff have gotten in the way, I lost all interest in everything Naruto for a long while, and that particular train of thought has now completely drifted to the winds. But I've learned my lesson, and the rewrite is not going to be posted until it's mostly written. That way, I can keep up steady updates without leaving the readers hanging. Art done by me (if anyone wants to do something of their own based on SC, feel free, just be sure to send me a link) Excuse the messyness of them, as most are just sketches (which has transformed into my general style): Second Chances DA gallery: http:///gallery/#Second-Chances Spiritual Watcher: Naruto fic. Just a one-shot about Yondaime's thoughts as he watches over Naruto's childhood. Once More: SG-1 fic. My version of how Daniel got back to the SGC after the main events of Threads in season 8. Sort of a prequel to a time-travel story (yes, another one, I'm obsessed with them) that I may or may not write. This is awesome and so very true (not to mention funny). The 27 Commandments of Fanfiction 1. Thou shalt not post a fic until it has been checked for grammar and spelling errors. The fanfiction gods hath given you a spellchecker on the computer for good reason. Use it. 2. Thou shalt not post a chapter of less than 300 words, unless it is a drabble. This displeases the masses. 3. Thou shalt not put author's notes in the middle of the story. 4. Thou shalt NEVER use text-speak in a fic, unless the characters are actually texting. 5. Thou shalt keep to one tense, and only one, throughout the story. Do not switch randomly. 6. Apply the above number 5 to POVs as well. 7. Thou shalt not get offended when someone makes fun of the crack pairing featured in your fanfiction. It probably is rather hilarious. 8. Thou shalt not use :D, ;), or :( in a fanfiction to show the emotion exhibited by a character. 9. Thou shall try-eth to keep characters in character! 10. Thou shall not treat every criticism as a flame. 11. The author's note is not a spot for your personal drama, and thou shalt not make it so. 12. Thou shalt not put any form of the phrase "first fic" in thy summary. 13. Thy created characters must not have names that exceed five syllables in length. Nor shall thy name have more than five words in length. 14. Thou shall not insert thyself into the story line as thyself or as a character- yes we know that you are in love with yourself and are very narcissistic, we just don’t want to read about how you end up with the main character. 15. If thou art writing a story that does not follow the original story line, point it out in the beginning. 16. Thou shall not make a person randomly smart or powerful unless stating a reason for the change (a good reason). 17. Thou shalt show and not tell. 18. Thou shalt not EVER use the phrase "I suck at summaries" in-est thine summary. This annoys thine readers. 19. Thou shalt not write the same way thou speak-est- writing is an art. 20. Thou shalt ALWAYS spell the word "okay" correctly. Using the letter "K" is an unacceptable compromise. 21. Thou shalt only use clichés when thou a) art writing a parody or b) find a new and interesting twist to make such clichés bearable to thine reader. 22. Thou shalt always separate dialogue from two separate speakers in two separate paragraphs. Otherwise thine readers shalt be confuse-ed. 23. Thou shalt not EVER make a chapter all one paragraph. THIS INFURIATES BOTH THINE READER AND THE FANFICTION GODS. They have given thee an ENTER key with good reason. 24. Thou shalt not write with thy caps lock on, it displeases the masses and causes thy readers to lose their vision and make angels weep. 25. Thou shalt know how to spell the character's names correctly before you writeth the fic. Misspelling the name of the main characters makes readers angry and distracts from the story. 26. Thou shalt not say in thine summary "summary inside". This shows lack of creativeness and infuriates the masses. The only exception is when a summary is cut short and a continuation of it lies inside. 27. Thou shall use paragraphs and space the story so it is not terrifyingly daunting to thine readers. (loooong) Fanfic petpeeves/rants: -mixing up there/their/they're, your/you're, to/too/two, etc. Everytime I see these mistakes, I just want to smack the author. Their uses are easy to remember. (The book is over THERE (placement). THEIR computer is slow (possesion). THEY'RE going to the movies (They are).) GET IT RIGHT! Also, since I see this a LOT, I'm going to give the definitions of 'Definitely' and 'Defiantly' to show to those who make the mistake that they are NOT the same word, nor are they interchangable. Nor do they sound the same, so why the mistake is made, I never understand. Maybe they just don't pay attention to what spell checker is handing out as default. Definitely - without doubt; certainly. Defiantly - open resistance; bold disobedience. See, not the same word. So I repeat; GET IT RIGHT!! -Gender changes (If I even see a femNaru (there are seriously waaay too many of them), or any other sign that a character's gender has been changed, I won't even read the summary. -MPreg. It's just...NO. Okay, just no. -authors who ask the readers what the pairings in their story should be. It's annoying. If you can't think of a pairing to put in the story, then don't have one. A popular pairing does not automatically equal a good story. There are several excellent stories out there that don't have a single reference to romance in them. -Too many powerful/main character ocs in a fic. (This is a big one for me. It just detracts from the rest of the story for me, and I end up losing interest fast, which has happened too many times for my liking, especially since the fics themselves were really good. A few is fine, or minor character ocs, but have over a dozen, all of which are main characters, and I just give up on the fic, because they all just seem to blend together after a few chapters and I lose track of who's who). Definitely exceptions, but mostly because those characters are created in such a way that they become rather memorable. What's the difference for me? I don't really know. -Character bashing (another big one for me. Doesn't matter who's getting bashed, it's annoying and makes me lose interest even faster than ocs.) -Randomly giving characters siblings/family members that don't actually exist for no good reason, or explanation. This is a big one for me, especially for characters that don't have ANY siblings/family. They're just randomly there. I'm sure there are good exceptions to this out there, but I usually avoid these plots like the plaque. Next Generation type stories, or creating details for Grandparents that are never mentioned in the canon material are okay, but giving, say, Harry Potter a twin brother who's actually the BWL, big No No. -Waiting for weeks/months/years for a new chapter, then finally getting one, only to have it be an A/N, mostly along the lines of "I'm so, so sorry for not updating, but you see, I just lost complete interest for this fic, so I'm not going to be completing it. So Sorry!" This just pisses me off. It's disappointing to the readers and something that I just hate. And it's because I hate this that I'm NEVER going to do it. It may take me a long time to update and/or complete a story, but I will not abandon it! (I know I've done essentially that with SC, but at least that's I'm rewriting it, rather than straight up abandoning it. But this is why I haven't posted a chapter on it to say so.) -Giving a fanfic summary that just says 'Summary inside' or something similar. 'I'm terrible at summaries' is even worse. People, you are NOT going to get any readers if you do that! Summary is supposed to be a summary of the STORY, not anything else. On that note, changing the summary with every chapter update by giving the summary of the chapter and not the story is NOT GOOD. Drabble/One-shot stories that vary in topic from chapter to chapter are ok to do this with, but not with fics that have a single plotline. |
