Just a few things about me:

I am a Canadian woman in my twenties, and I have been writing fanfic since I was about 11 or 12, but I didn't start writing any of my posted works until I was in high school. Anything I wrote before that is NEVER going to see the light of day, end of story. I used to do a lot of [insert fave character here]/OC romances, but now I focus more on whump and (attempts at) humour. One or two of those romances may still be coming your way, but that's just a testament to how long it's taken me to finish them!

I teach English as a Second Language as a profession, so I'm rather picky about spelling and grammar. Doesn't mean that I'm immune to typos, of course. Canadian English spells things the British way, but has a more American vocabulary (I grew up riding elevators, not lifts, and eating cookies, not biscuits), so I guess there might be some confusion if you're trying to figure out where I'm from. The only time I consciously use American spelling is when an American character is speaking or has written something.

My two main Pet Peeves are:

1) Pushy reviewers 'suggesting' that I write something (especially when it contains the phrase 'You should…'), whether it's a whole new story or 'ideas' for one I'm currently posting. I may incorporate ideas for small moments and interactions if I like them AND can fit them in, but if the suggestions are about where the actual plot should go, I am not having it! Even when I post the first chapter of a story before I’m finished writing the last one, I already have a good idea (at the very least) of where it is going to go, so if I coincidentally wind up going with something you suggested, it's because I already decided on it before you asked, not because I was listening to you. Persistent bugging is only going to make me less inclined to do what you want me to do, not more.

2) People who don’t bother reading Author’s Notes and then asking me questions that the Notes have already answered. In my opinion, it’s as dumb when people bang on the door of a closed store while completely ignoring the CLOSED sign on said door. If you usually skip A/N's when reading, then fine. I do it, too. But if something confuses you, and you wish to comment on it, please CHECK TO SEE IF THE ANSWER IS ALREADY THERE!

Six common word-swap mistakes I find when reading Fanfiction:

Affect vs. Effect: Affect is a verb, effect is a noun. To affect something is to have/cause an effect on that something.

Customer vs. Costumer: A Customer is someone shopping at a store. A Costumer makes/designs costumes.

Councilor vs. Counselor: A Councilor is a person on a council (an assembly of people that meets regularly, usually in a legal or political setting). A Counselor comes from the word counsel, meaning advice or giving advice, and is used most commonly when referring to guidance counselors or summer camp counselors.

Then vs. Than, Your vs. You're, and There vs. Their vs. They're: Really, just go back and dig out your second-grade grammar lessons. Or take the time to proofread, whichever is the problem. Or, if English just isn't your first language, please take the time to look it up. Your writing will improve greatly from this.
