I am a fan of canon. That being said, many characters in Tolkien's world lend themselves to a much wider interpretation of canon than his more well-developed characters allow (ones who Tolkien himself admitted were created as an afterthought; Legolas, for example), and I believe that many people's interpretation of canon is so couched in their own view of the world that the idea of canon itself is almost entirely subjective. For example, while most of my stories are not slash, I absolutely do not consider queer or gay relationships a breach of canon. I am absolutely open to critique. However, if in your critique you tell me to "read the books," I will likely disregard you entirely, as I have been "reading the books" since I was 8 and I am now nearly 30. Honestly, there's nothing more infuriating to me than reading that in a review. I would prefer you specifically point out what you disagree with and tell me why (and sign in so I can respond, please). All that aside, I adore fan communities and fanfiction, writer and reviewers—I hope you enjoy the stories on my page, as I enjoy the stories on so many of yours!
