Author has written 54 stories for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion, and Hobbit.
Hi, I’m Ysilme, middle-aged, queer, German, with an unquenchable longing for the sea and times past and a deep love for stories and music.
I’ve been writing, translating and occasionally podficcing fanfic since 2006 and am more or less mono-fandom, first in the Potterverse, and since 2012 in the Tolkienverse. I’m writing in English only these days, but as I started out in my native language, there are various German Potterverse stories, some of which I’ve translated into English.
By the way, English is my third language, and while I take great care with my writing and usually have at least one experienced beta reader looking my stories through, I'm far from perfect. If you find something wrong or amiss in my stories, I'm happy to hear about.
Generally, I care for quality in writing and storytelling and for canon compliancy, but at the same time have a deep love for world-building and lore, and the exploration of what lies even beyond the original creator’s imagination. (This might sound contradictionary, but I assure you, it isn’t.)
My favourite genre is hurt/comfort, and although I wouldn’t consider myself a shipper, there are a group of favourite characters or pairings I enjoy most in both fandoms. But I read and write whatever tickles my fancy, and more often than not that is quite different from my general preferences. As long as the story is good, I’m likely to enjoy it. As for content, my preferred reading is slash, although I used to read mostly het or gen in the Potterverse - it’s mainly the characters that interest me, not their sex, and the rest just follows; - but part of my reading prefernces is also general, social, and cultural openness and diversity I’m most likely to find among readers and writers of slash.
In the Potterverse, my preferred characters are the adults, particularly those working at Hogwarts, with Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, Poppy Pomfrey and Irma Pince as favourite characters.
Tolkien’s books have accompanied me since childhood, and I’m regularly re-reading them. While I know and love nearly all the movies that go with these fanworlds (with the exception of the animated LotR movie) and am also regularly re-watching them, my stories are usually based on the book characters and settings.
My main fannish home since several years is the Archive of Our Own, where you can find all of my fanworks, including a couple of podfics, graphic works, and a photo story or two. Unfortunately I can’t link there any longer, but you’ll find me under the same username there, and also on the Faerie Archive and the Silmarillion Writer’s Guild. (You can find these with Google). I’m also active on DW and LJ, and have a tumblr although I’m not really active there; all also with this username.
