![]() Author has written 8 stories for Twilight, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, and Hunger Games. I'm not currently posting anything recent on FFN; I live on AO3 and tumblr. What I Believe About Fanfiction by GinnyW 31 (the old version; I don't support P2P) -I believe that fanfiction is fanfiction and nothing more. -I believe that once a fanfic is posted for free online that it will forever remain free online in one way or another. The only way to prevent this is to never post it in the first place. -I believe that fanfiction is a medium that uses another person's creation, world, characters, etc, but most importantly is uses another person's audience and that is what ultimately what makes it fanfiction to begin with. So just because your fanfic only shares character names and nothing else in common with the originating story, the fanfic author has still used the audience to gain support and encouragement. -I believe that removing a story because it's been plagiarised does nothing more than remove the proof that you wrote the original and I guarantee you that pulling your story does not stop that plagiarist from having a full copy of your story on their hard drive. -I believe that review count does not indicate the quality of a story... typically it just reveals how much smut is in a story... and does a lot of smut equate to a story anyway? I prefer plot and a story that evokes emotion any day of the week. -I believe that some of you have enough talent and skill to one day write your own original novel and have it published... you know, provided it's actually original. -I believe that some of us only have enough talent to write really good fanfic... AND THAT'S OKAY!!! -I believe that writing a fanfic WIP takes teamwork and without one member of that team, the entire story wouldn't be what is has become. The writer, the betas/cheerleaders, & the READERS! By removing a story to "publish" the reader's hard work in reviewing and offering support or simply asking questions is ignored and that reader is told that their input wasn't valuable. Funny, the author never realises how valuable that feedback truly was until they try to write something else without posting as they wrote. The quality goes down and most times the motivation to continue forward is gone. No wonder readers are becoming so frustrated and are no longer trusting authors. -I believe that fanfiction should be fun and enjoyable. -I believe that fanfiction encourages creativity and cultivates friendships. It can be a wealthy garden. -I believe that there are very few original plots and that most stories (profic & fanfic) is just reworking standard plot lines with the author's unique storytelling and a few twists. So quit fretting about being original. -I believe that nearly everyone has at least one story in them that is dying to be told... so go tell it! |
