I'm a twenty-something hermit.

My favorite fandoms include (but are not limited to) Transformers, Last of the Mohicans, Sherlock, and Tin Man. I prefer Romance and Hurt/Comfort fics with a healthy dose of smut. My biggest fanfic pet peeves are, in no particular order:

1) Mary Sues, Gary Stus, and original characters who are nothing more than ridiculously transparent author proxies. Don't do it. Even taking a named background character from somewhere in the fandom and building a personality for them from thin air is acceptable, but don't try to pass off your hackneyed wish-fulfillment fantasy as anything other than what it is.

2) Cutting. Come on, guys! Is self-injury really the only way that people can purge their deeply tormented feelings? Why not macramé? Basket weaving? Crossword puzzles?

3) The idea that "happily ever after" must always include progeny. I get it. Everybody loves babies. But why is a child considered the ultimate expression of love? Why do otherwise well-crafted, three-dimensional characters [and plenty of terribly-crafted, one-dimensional ones] go absolutely mad with baby lust the moment pregnancy becomes a possibility? And why do authors consistently disregard all sense of reason - not to mention anatomy, cultural differences, and sometimes even species - in their quest to create the "perfect" family unit? I'm not saying that you need to stop writing about kidlings - what a hopeless cause! - but I don't think it would hurt to see a few more stories where the characters live long and happy lives sans spawn, especially if getting them knocked up in the first place requires ignoring the laws of physics, biology, or their own canon.

4) Overuse of the following words and phrases: quite, rather, and more than a little, especially during sex scenes. Unless you are writing dialogue between fussy British women, these qualifiers are not necessary. Eliminating them will improve the flow of your story, I promise.
