Author has written 1 story for Fate/stay night. Real Identity: I am Alpharius (otherwise known as that one guy who T-bagged you) Personal Super Power: Procrastination (do not underestimate my power) Alignment: Chaotic Neutral My stance on Fan-Fiction Likes Bromance: Its kind of like romance but without all that messy teenage awkwardness. Better yet is that the synergy generated by the characters often leads to epic moments of pure awesomeness. They say that 90% of fan-fiction is complete and utter garbage. I say that 90% of bromance focused stories are gems in a dull and dark world. Some might need a little bit more polishing than others, but they are still gems nonetheless. As you can easily guess, this means that there sadly aren’t all that many bromance fics out there… :( If you do find a good bromance fic please don’t hesitate to PM me. I’ll even try to be a swell guy and avoid team killing you within the immediate future :) Humor: Karganeth approves of this. He approves of this a lot. Neutral Mary Sue: On the down side there is no room for positive character development because they are already perfect. On the other hand, there is suddenly a lot of positively delightful potential for corrupting the innocent… (…I blame 14dchan for this) Romance: Sometimes good, some times bad, but more often than not it is nothing more than a distraction. The common problem with pairings is that they are often written as pairings instead of two unique individuals making them feel forced. Also of concern is this seeming need for people to give every character in their stories a ‘fairy tale’ ending were everyone gets a perfect romantic pairing regardless of how little buildup there is and how OOC it all turns out. Sometimes romance can be good, but there are times when no romance is better than any romance. If the romance isn’t meaningful or necessary for the plot then it might be better left out. Training Arcs: A place for potential character development where we also get to learn interesting background details about the cast and setting. The problem is they are often boring and are usually written in such a way as to imply that the characters involved don’t normally work to improve themselves. That and sudden mystical power ups are very meh for me. Dislikes Bashing: A lazy way to cop out of character development and I don’t just mean that for the character being bashed. What is even more ironic is that the so called protagonist of the story is more often than not given the ‘cool’ characteristics of the person being bashed while the person being bashed is given all the negative traits of the protagonist. Overall, I consider bashing to be one of the laziest forms of writing that is around. I can understand needing to have a character that can have an antagonistic relationship with your protagonist to act as a measuring stick. But wouldn’t you honestly prefer that your antagonist is an awesome and interesting one that actively pushes your MC to improve him(her)self instead of some second rate poser? Please take a moment to seriously think about it, do you actually want the measuring stick by which you use to show how awesome your main character is to be a boring and cliché villain or wouldn't you prefer an inspiring and dynamic antagonist? Battle Scenes: When I read a story I want to read about rousing characters and how they change the world by interacting with others. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not against battles occurring within scenes per se. What I am against are scenes that focus on the fight and the fight alone. Nothing bores me more than having to read line after pointless line about the various so called ‘techniques’ and ‘abilities’ a character uses (I could extend this to fleet battles in the Sci-Fi genre but those are usually already bad enough for different reasons). Make the fights more of a clash of ideals than blades and you might just gain my interest. Even then, this doesn’t always make fight scenes tolerable to me… Harems: A place where interesting and often cherished characters are magically reduced to one dimensional tropes with the wave of a magic wand. All you need is thirty-seconds with each character in a harem setting and you will know everything you could possibly need to know about them and how they will react to any given situation in the story. As with all rules, there are exceptions and I have read a few very good harem stories in my time, but those are extremely few and far between. These days if I see ‘harem’ anywhere in the description I don’t even bother to skim the reviews to see if it is worth checking out. I probably wont bother to answer reviews in a PM unless they at least come with a critique. (Nothing personal, I'm just lazy) IF I do respond to PM’s and reviews it may (read: will) take a while. Updates: Sometime between now and never. But when I do update, it will almost always be on a Saturday. My laptop crashed several weeks ago in the middle of an update. I had the OS and most of the programs reinstalled but there are still lots of problems and I’m not entirely sure that they were caused by the crash alone. Ever since Steve Jobs hit the bucket my general response every time an apple update has come up for my ancient laptop has generally been along the lines of ‘oh sh*.’ As it stands the keyboard and wifi randomly stop working requiring a restart to fix and the laptop itself randomly restarts. I don’t quite feel the need to declare hiatus but I felt that I should give the few of you who check my profile a fair warning as the problems are getting worse. On the bright side, when it finally does fully die, I will finally have all the excuses I will ever need to switch over from leopard to penguin. Story Status: Tales of a Brownie Ch 4: 25% complete, progress at last! I have also been spending a fair amount of time trying to work out some other fics. We shall see where that goes... Abaddon All Hope: Is it any wonder that Abaddon fails at every turn when the ones who conspire against his plans the most are his own forces? Because, honestly, there is absolutely no way that every single one of them can be that incompetent… Meet the Interns: Zelretch runs off with his latest apprentice to attend a convention and leaves his nameless minion to run the Earth’s Office of Immigration and Foreign Affairs. Official Policy: No Survivors. Tales of a brownie spin off with many crossovers shamelessly inserted. A trip to the Art Gallery: Emperor Palpatine and the newly appointed Grand Admiral Thrawn visit the annual Alderaan art festival incognito. Only heaven can save that poor Death Star in their way. |
