Reviews for Mobile Suit Gundam Alpha
Falzyker chapter 21 . 8/18
I just discovered this and I have to say that I love it.

A trio of RX-78 with psychoframes in the hands of Amuro and Sayla, the story is engaging and you still are going through the Gundam classics of transhumanism, identity, vengeance and the weight of lives.

Also horrific experiments upon children, that's a big Gundam one too.

The romance is well done too, a true possible ménage à trois between them, obvious attraction, friendship and maybe love, with little jealousy and what is there has people thinking (which isn't a Gundam thing but well at least it's happening).

Sadly from what I can see each new chapter comes every few months but at least the wait it's worth it.
Juubi-K chapter 21 . 5/30
Ouch. Seriously, ouch.

The big event of this chapter, and without doubt a turning point in Amuro’s life. The terrible truth of his origins has been revealed, and of how his mother truly regards him.

In spite of everything, I can’t help but feel for Kamaria, at least a little. She acted in naïveté, and ultimately fell victim to her own humanity; to the xenophobic instinct that has labelled her son as a threat, and will not be silent no matter how much she tries. Motherly love and survival instinct are at war within her, and their war is destroying her soul; so much so that she was ready to die at Sayla’s hand just to be free of it, and the guilt of having caused her son such pain. In the end, as perhaps Sayla intended, her punishment is to live with it.

A powerful and painful chapter. I look forward to the next one, and to more of Cosmo Babylonia.
Kaiser Chris chapter 21 . 5/18
I really didn't like the scene where Kamaria turned on Amuro. It makes a lot of sense with what is revealed immediately after, however on its own it's not good and had that been the finishing note of the chapter it would have ruined it. Up til now we only got the barest of hints of unease from Kamaria on Amuro's origins and powers, and here it feels like she went cartoonishly evil just for the purpose of shock value to punch Amuro in the gut after his victory. To me it also seems like an overreaction for the situation. Had Kamaria acted like this in the aftermath of Jericho or Anges then it would've made sense as Amuro pulled impossible miracles and bended reality to his will. Here he didn't really do anything too special besides take out lots of Babys with the rest of Shrike squad being just as badass.

Also I made my point before, but I don't like The Observer. He feels really out of place in regards to the narrative and tone and everytime his scenes pop up it ruins my immersion. I think you're going for something like Q from Star Trek, but The Observer lacks the same narrative crafting that made Q an enjoyable character for the show.

Now onto stuff that I like, Sayla's confrontation with Kamaria was amazingly well done. You really installed a sense of horror surrounding Sayla's status as not only an Augment, but as a Newtype regarding how she took care of those grunts without effort and psychically put Kamaria down. Before while I liked Sayla's character and respected her skills as a pilot, I never thought of her as a threat, yet I do now. This was also the first time that I felt truly intimidated by Zeon augments as their genes only seemed an aesthetic until now.

The twist of Kamaria being the daughter of Flanagan and her working with Tem to make their son into a Lovecraftian thing was surprising but enjoyable and certainly added more depth and intrigue to her character. While Alpha's Earth Federation is undoubtedly morally superior in every way to canon's Federation, I'm not surprised that they're pulling stuff like this in regards to Newtypes, and it seems like a natural development considering not only have they had to deal with augments, but now they have to deal with super psychics, some of who can be augments like Sayla and Char. To me it felt like a great fusion of Evangelion and Seed and I'm looking forward to the eventual revelation.

I have to say that usually I'm an AmuroxSayla shipper, but considering the obvious showing that Fraw is developing hard romantic feelings for Amuro, I support them as a couple in this fic as you've done a great job showing their relationship and why Fraw would develop feelings for him, not to mention making her a competent doctor instead of just an errand girl. I hope this ship goes full steam ahead.

Again in regards to romance, Bright and Emary have been really cute in all of their scenes together and it more than makes up for Mirai going with Sleggar. One of the saddest aspects about Zeta, ZZ, and CCA is how they completely disregarded Mirai as a character and made Bright's marriage and family life an after thought til Hathaway, so it's nice to see this aspect of his life explored.

Looking forward to the continuation of the Hunt and Ramba Ral's proper entrance!
00virtuezero chapter 21 . 5/17
And on the same well as Mothers Day. Fitting, which I do imagine that was your reason for posting it this week. Of course I’m just speculating.

So we got bit of hint into why this Amuro is such a powerful Newtype. Ironically seems that trying to suppress and take away his potential has done the exact opposite and arguably made him a potential dangerous threat to all.

That is if he goes the deep end.

All I can about Kamaria, is to how cowardly she really is and taking on personal guilt out on Amuro.

I mean I get feeling extreme guilt over what you did, but she could’ve comforted Amuro and told him he was still human and etc.

Like I said before I do think your choice to make the Hunt for Dolowa it’s own side story was a smart choice and I am looking foward to this version of Ramba Ral.

I just checked on Marvel Future Avengers look, and yeah I can see Alpha Sayla looking like that.

As MCU Carol, I all can is meh on that version.
ZeroNu chapter 21 . 5/16
As always a great chapter with so many feels that I will have to go back over the chapter to get them all straight. I also googled Carol Dancers and I see what you mean about her looking like what Sayla should look like nowadays. Once more I look forward to your next chapter and thanks for continuing this story I hope you stay safe.
Pirate King Ray chapter 21 . 5/16
Interesting. Getting Ultimate Coordinator vibes from project V, and sayla’s horror implies it’s some rather messed up shit.

Having seen the pic of future avengers I agree it’s a good look but I also don’t hate mcu carol. Her brash attitude was nice and seeing the movie do well does allow other female led superhero movies a chance to do well
justinq719 chapter 21 . 5/15
Son of the bitch... O.O Amuro... The Ultimate Newtype...
Jesus Christ! What in the ever living he'll were Dr. Tem Ray and Kamaria Ray thinking?!
Guest chapter 4 . 4/27
I think I understand Sleggers back story. He is from the 21st century AD. He was a US Navy pilot. When trying to land on a carrier, he crash landed, severly injuring him. In order to keep him alive they put him in cryo stasis until they could find a way to heal his wounds. They must have forgoten about him due to something. He spent the last 300 years or so on ice until he was discovered and revived by the Federation. After adjusting to the future, he joins the federation military as a MS pilot. That is my guess.
Juubi-K chapter 20 . 2/24
And here we are.

I don't have a lot to say about this one. It was mostly battles - no bad thing in itself - and the battles were rather good. If I have one minor gripe it's that the Cosmo Babylonians didn't seem all that threatening in the end. That said, this is a battle-hardened unit - with Gundams - up against what seems like a couple of overconfident CB line units, so maybe it's understandable. You also mentioned that these were not Cosmo Babylonia's best, so maybe there'll be harder battles to come?

Character-wise, the main bit is Kamaria watching her son fight; her heart breaking all the while. It's quite painful in places, especially after the warm welcome she gave him in the previous chapter. That said, her feelings come across a bit better than with her canon self from MSG. This time, it seems more like accepting a terrible truth that she has long known, but could not bring herself to acknowledge. One wonders just how much she knows, about the Gundams and about Amuro.

Nicely done all round.
Aegis Khaos chapter 20 . 2/18
Finally got a chance to read this chapter. Rarely have I been glad to see the Feds get their moment of glory, but given how many hard fought battles they had endured, this is one of those times. Even more happily, the 8th MS Team/Shrikes get their moment to shine as opposed to a support team in glorified Guncannons. I think someone in the comments said it would be nice to see Shiro in a Gundam of his own; I wouldn't mind seeing that either, as seeing any of the 8th MS Team in an Alpha version of the RX-79[G] would be total fanservice.

Amidst all of that action, however, is Kamaria and her reaction to the battle, especially Amuro. Knowing what we know up to this point, I can't wait to see the eventual fallout between her and Amuro, as well as the truth behind her son and the Gundams.
00virtuezero chapter 20 . 2/13
Ark Royal finally gets it day on being the ones handing out a curb stomp instead of the other way around. ( Mind you the fights have been from the brink and Pyrrhic survival).

I like how Sleggar was the one to put down Zerik. All 3 Gundam pilots are sharing kills of antagonist of each arc.

For Babylonains this has got to be such an embarrassment they lost two members of their own family, in ill thought out attack, against a ship still being repaired.

Even through this was a victory, this will raise the Ark Royal status and profile and make a bigger target.

Kamaria's scene really highlight her growing horror at what Amuro is becoming and hint there is a reason by why this Amuro is such a powerful Newtype.
Kaiser Chris chapter 20 . 2/12
I like the horror angle that was constantly presented through Kamaria in the chapter as it's a good use of suspense and shows just how different Amuro is with some strong foreshadowing of messed up origins. Better than the show and hope the payoff is worth it.

Other than that the chapter was just...eh. There was nothing horrible about it, but I feel like it was basically a repeat of the previous chapter in that this is something easy for the Shrikes and the Babylonians are incompetent. It's an understandable creative choice but there was nothing new presented and made the plot feel slightly stale.
Rakaan chapter 20 . 2/10
I hope we get to see Shiro in a Gundam eventually, maybe if/when the Ark Royal gets some upgrades he'll get a second-generation Gundam.
SulliMike23 chapter 20 . 2/10
Unlike in canon, the Cosmo Babylonians didn't stand a chance. They thought that with their "superior" birth they would succeed where Garma and so many other Zeon forces failed to do; but like them, they let their arrogance get the better of them and it cost them a lot more than it did the Zeeks. While the Zeon lost 1 member of their Royal Family, the Babylonians lost 2. Undoubtedly this will send the Babylonians reeling with shock as to how such "inferior" peasants managed to best them. Makes me wonder of any of the other Zeon Allies will try their luck.
Pirate King Ray chapter 16 . 2/9
I like this. Sayla's point about Devils reminds me of the Dresden Files. When Harry's scared that he's become a monster his friend points out that monsters don't care whereas Harry does.
