It is notorious, even famous, with several (dubious) honours put upon it: It appears on three different TV Tropes articles (Death Note Fanfic Recs, Recursive Fanfiction and Grimmification), has been named on the Death Note Fanlore Wiki as, apparently, the “most (in)famous” fic in the DN section, won First Prize in both the Death Note and Member’s Choice categories at the 2009 UFO Awards, is the subject of a Yahoo Answers question, has a fanclub on DA, a fanfic written for it called Human by Perdue, a FST on LJ and lots of AMVs and artwork/photographs – and that’s just the stuff we know about. o.O It tends to pop up randomly in obscure places from time to time so... who knows? Even all these years later, it still gets quite a lot of reviews and we're very happy that people are still getting such enjoyment out of it. BUT WITH THAT SAID I feel like now is the time to confess that it is purple as hell with extremely clunky metaphors/themes that often punch you in the face for all the subtlety they have. So, yeah, just a heads up! Narroch and I were 19/20 when we wrote it. I feel something of an obligation to admit that Poison Apple was a swell ride with a great bunch of readers and a fantastic learning process but, in retrospect, makes me cringe in places. :/ On Small Print: Due to the amount of messages I get regarding it, I would like to make it clear that Small Print - a horrible Teen Titans SladexRobin fanfiction that cemented the ongoing horrible friendship of Narroch and I - was deleted by FFNet in 2013 for breaking more or less every rule this site imposes. Small Print was very old - written between 2005-2007 - and neither Narroch or I have the files for it anymore. I apologise to people who liked the story and/or wanted to reread it but it is gone If you cannot understand my argument, and declare "It's Greek to me'', you are quoting Shakespeare; if you claim to be more sinned against than sinning, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger; if your wish is farther to the thought; if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you have ever refused to budge an inch or suffered from green-eyed jealousy, if you have played fast and loose, if you have been tongue-tied, a tower of strength, hoodwinked or in a pickle, if you have knitted your brows, made a virtue of necessity, insisted on fair play, slept not one wink, stood on ceremony, danced attendance (on your lord and master), laughed yourself into stitches, had short shrift, cold comfort or too much of a good thing, if you have seen better days or lived in a fool's paradise - why, be that as it may, the more fool you, for it is a foregone conclusion that you are (as good luck would have it) quoting Shakespeare; if you think it is early days and clear out bag and baggage, if you think it is high time and that that is the long and short of it, if you believe that the game is up and that truth will out even if it involves your own flesh and blood, if you lie low till the crack of doom because you suspect foul play, if you have your teeth set on edge (at one fell swoop) without rhyme or reason, then - to give the devil his due - if the truth were known (for surely you have a tongue in your head) you are quoting Shakespeare; even if you bid me good riddance and send me packing, if you wish I was dead as a door-nail, if you think I am an eyesore, a laughing stock, the devil incarnate, a stony-hearted villain, bloody-minded or a blinking idiot, then - by Jove! O Lord! Tut tut! For goodness' sake! What the dickens! But me no buts! - it is all one to me, for you are quoting Shakespeare! - On Quoting Shakespeare by Bernard Levin |
