Spagna Conquistador chapter 1 . 1/7/2018 Netherlands actually exists. His hair looks like a tulip. |
decoris chapter 1 . 9/23/2017 This was so beautiful. I'm shocked I've never read this before because it had everything I ever wanted in UKUS. All the issues you brought up were things that I thought no one would ever address but bam, here I find this amazingly written one shot that fulfilled all my needs. I LOVE realistic, "dark" USUK fics like this where the tone is a bit bitter and angry. But more than anything this fic felt like an analysis on the relationship. What's better than a well written, angsty one-shot? Analytical angsty one-shots~! I always see America being the critical, arrogant one, but it was so nice to see England as prideful and stubborn as ever with his insults as well. ((Maybe I'm discovering my new love for UKUS?)) Sorry for incoherent ramble, I just really loved this fic and can't seem to write very eloquently right now... |
Guest chapter 1 . 1/14/2017 Dude! this was amazing. ur's such a good writer, I can't believe it. Love, love this |
asmyguitargentlyweeps chapter 1 . 12/13/2015 I love it's intricacy |
PrussianTails chapter 1 . 7/23/2015 I absolutely loved this! It was so great in so many ways. Your writing in general is pleasant to read. The flow works well. And your characterization is extremely thought out and executed accurately. I love it! |
Hero's Chanson chapter 1 . 3/27/2015 What irony that you didn't even originally like the show and yours has become, I believe, my favorite fic for this pairing. I'm glad that you not only eventually decided to post it but also demonstrated such faith to our joint history. Thank you for sharing! |
EllisDream chapter 1 . 3/7/2015 I know this fanfiction is old and probably doesn't need any more reviews...but I want to write one anyway...because it's pretty damn amazing. I think it's one of the most 'realistic' representation of this pairing and it manages to both made me cringe and wonder. It's not one of my favourite pairings in the fandom even if I do read about it once in a while, but I might reconsider my feelings after reading this one. It's hard for a reader to find good fanfictions with the original characters instead of just AUs, because I guess it's hard to give depth to the stereotyped characterization of the original series...and even when they try they sometimes either exaggerate the process (coming up with psychopaths) or invert the original stereotype to begin with...which isn't always a bad thing if done well, but basically makes the character technically OOC. In here you did a wonderful job in my opinion. Both characters retained some of their original traits and also had enough depth to give reason for them to actually have said traits. It was pretty amazingly done. The historical references and the symbolism also worked great. The writing is engaging and I couldn't stop myself from keep on reading once I started which isn't something that always happens to me. There are 3 things that kind of made me wonder, though: 1) America isn't how the British called America. We could argue that an Italian explorer living in Spain and some German geographer reading the works of the former actually gave America this name even before the British started setting up their colonies. I don't pride myself being a connoisseur of these matters, but I looked it up because America is how we call America in Italian as well (and in German it's Amerika which is pronounced the same)...and well, you have to admit it doesn't sound like an English word. 2) Germany in the Hetalia world is younger than America. Not sure if this was clear back in 2009 though, since it seems like there was no Netherlands character back then. 3) If Arthur doesn't accept July just because it derives from Latin, he shouldn't have accepted victory either...or even united. All in all it was a great read and I do thank you for the experience. PS: As an Italian I'm not too insulted by Hetalia. It's a parody. Every character/nationality has its good and bad/silly stereotypes anyway. And while I do cringe a bit at the cowardice attributes, we did indeed suck military wise. We entered both world wars almost completely unprepared, after all. The fact that we sucked so bad a Japanese even though about drawing a series about it kind of makes me laugh instead of feeling insulted. |
valre chapter 1 . 6/4/2014 I HAD to leave a review after this glorious monster came and rocked my world so fabulously. You had me crying a little throughout this, when they have their internal monologues about their history and then at the end, with "united". I can't even begin to describe how touched I was by this fic. The concept and the character development were so fantastic, this actually evoked a seriously emotional response from me. I have caught the feels! Incidentally, this is the second Hetalia fic I read, since I just barely joined the Hetalia fandom, haha. I'm so glad to have read this. Btw, Afrojack's album "Forget the World" serves as a really great soundtrack for United. The music really complimented your work. |

Viviane Renard chapter 1 . 6/29/2013 Great writing! I liked that part about the English language, and how it's something fundamental that they share. I also enjoyed your perspective on Arthur and Alfred's relationship. I agree, I usually like UK/US more simply because, as you stated, Arthur raised Alfred. Combine his parental instincts with his natural bossiness, and he won't want to back down to Alfred. And Alfred is just laid back enough to not care either way. |
sachi-sama chapter 1 . 4/6/2013 I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this story! It was a pleasure to read, and so well written. You posted it ages ago, but I feel you probably wouldn't mind to hear it. I agree with you entirely on the debate against UKUS and USUK, and I'm American. I feel the UK wouldn't allow such a thing, and I, for one, am grateful to have such a generous influence from the UK. It's a beautiful language, when used correctly. I just wish more of my citizens understood that, haha. Anywho, I really enjoyed this story, and I am happy someone else shares my views on the special relationship between the two, because there has never, and will never, be one quite like it again. Much love! |
purple-ear-muff chapter 1 . 3/24/2013 I review because I love this story and I hate the number 99. 8) |
crossmeetsarrows chapter 1 . 2/27/2013 This is one of the best fics I've ever read. This just describes their relationship so well and the way you portrayed them is just perfect. I also love your choice of words and the fact that this fic has so much depth. |
