His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? I thought to myself. He must really be a nerd.' I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I just shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends, and he said yes. We hung out all weekend, and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same. Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscle with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed, and handed me half the books. Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, and that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation, and I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak. Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Sometimes, I was even jealous! Today was one of those days.I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!' He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. 'Thanks,' he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began, "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach . . . but mostly your friends . . . I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story." I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later, and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable." I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth. Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture, you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others. Copy and paste on your profile You now have two choices. You can either, 1. Put this on your profile. Or 2. Forget you read this and act like it didn't touch your heart. As you can see, I took choice number 1. HATERS= Don't let people always put you down with words like freak or weirdo, accept them because thats who you are. If people distance yourself because of how you act, then keep acting that way. "Be who you are and say what you mean, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter, don't mind," -Dr. Suess Bullying: Bullying is a serious topic, people think that its all right and tell you to 'shake it off' because they think its alright but its not. Physical bullying is bad because you cant hid the marks but emotional is worse because then nobody can see it. I was a victim of emotional bullying in elementary school, I was mocked because I was seriously sheltered, (I wasn't allowed to watch Spongebob) I felt pathetic and worthless until something hit me, (My sisters fist). Who cares what people think, be who you are, let people know that and somehow, good friends will find you, and they're the people who will be the most important to you. HomoSexuality: I used to believe that being a homosexual was a bad thing for a time. Then I met a girl, who was so quirky and funny and intelligent and just so beautiful, I never had any luck asking out girls and get so nervous around them, however when I find that they have boyfriends it makes it easier on me. However it was in the school year I hear say, "Let me call my girlfriend." I was confused for a moment and asked what she meant by that, most times I just think 'Oh as in best girl friend.' However her next words shocked me to the core. She looked at me and said seriously, "I'm bisexual." I was amazed that this girl, who was intelligent, funny and beautiful, was bisexual. It was after that I started to go through some posts on iFunny and find that most homosexuals actually love each other, just as much (if not more) than most couples in America. So my views have been totally changed and I respect all of them equally, and I will support my children if they are homosexuals. Wise Preacher Pastor: Now, according to a few passages in the Bible, homosexuality is a sin AudienceAmen! Pastor Now wait, I'm not finished. You know what else the Bible defines as a sin? Divorce. Pastor: There are countless passages that talk about how divorce is wrong and there are consequences from it, such as your wife getting stoned. Yet I witnessed a divorce just this morning and while it was heartbreaking I did not attempt to throw rocks at her, even if she filed for the divorce. We, choose to overlook the consequences of divorce because it was inhumane and cruel, however the Bible doesn't say anything about the consequences of a homosexual lifestyle, and yet we're spearheading a campaign to ruin the lives of people we do not know. The Bible states to love thy neighbor. Thats it. So we, as a church have to support equality with a smile on our face; THAT is the true Christian way. Suicide: If you think about having suicide...your not alone. Yeah I know, you thought that this was supposed to cheer you up and stop you, well it's more of a commentary on it. Suicide is something we all have thought about at one point in our lives, I usual think about it a ton during the day. It was strange really...one time was when I was just learning how to drive and as I drove I sometimes wonder 'What would happen if I just crashed into that?' Just random thoughts. Hell, I even thought of a way to go die and hid my body. Getting back to the point, you're not alone when you think of suicide, but when you do it, are you being selfish? Do you truly believe that nobody cares and won't miss you at all? Believe me I feel like that now, but I know I'm alone, I don't have any people I can truly call 'friends' just acquaintance, I'm usually the quiet one anywhere, I stick to my phone because I can read these stories that seem to take me away from my loneliness and into a world full of adventure, drama and romance. I read this stuff because it fills some of that loneliness inside of me, makes me feel alive and this site feels like someone I can relate to. But the truth is for me...I don't think I'm attractive at all, people have said so but they were my relatives so...but even if I am attractive (which I'm not) I still think I'd be a terrible boyfriend because of how much I'd fail at the responsibilities. Protecting your girl, buying them gifts showing that you care, I can't do that at all and it just makes me depressed. But just because I'm alone doesn't mean that nobody cares, I don't know about my mom sometimes but I am sure that at least someone does care about me. I don't know about my mom because... to explain I live in a nice house, with a tomboyish sister and a awesome dad and workaholic mom. Anyway two years ago we were going to treat my grandparents to dinner and as we were about to leave, I had forgotten something and messed it up (This was a few years ago) and in her rage she said "You're just worthless!!" Worthless... That word just killed me. In that moment, I felt very alone and small. As time went on and I saw 'How to Train Your Dragon' I truly understood Hiccup because I could understand where he had been coming from. But like Hiccup, I pushed on, hoping that I could show that I could be worth something, and then I got an account here. People say I'm a good writer, and I'm glad because at least at this, I can get it right. So, random person, try and find something your good at and...go from there. Don't kill yourself because your selfish, do it for the correct reason. And only you know that reason. |
