Author has written 3 stories for Justice League, and Avatar. Here's a note about my story "the forces that move us" When I thought of this story I had not yet seen the movie, and after seeing the movie I compromised on some things, so there's some things you'll have to know: 1.The difference in size between the Na'vi and the humans isn't that big, an average male is app. 15 cm taller than an average human male(180), the difference between the females of each species is the same(human: 175. Na'vi: 190). However, due the differences in height between the sexes an average na'vi male is app. 30-35 cm taller than an average human female. Another important thing is tha the na'vi are of course very much stronger, faster and more agile than the humans. The females of the Na'vi are a bit weaker than the males, but still a stronger than the average human male, but when they have to fight the robot-suits they loose their edge. The Na'vi males are around as strong as the robot-suits we see the humans wearing, and the best of their hunters are even stronger than that. 2. The Na'vi have enhanched senses (especially smelling and hearing) and they use this to e.g. hunt. They heal faster than humans, and they have an increased metabolism. Also they are more difficult to hurt (In the movie it is mentioned that it is due to the fact that their bones are made out of carbon, sounds just fine to me).Generally they are more primal(not necessarily primitive), and things such as eye contact is between males is considered a threat if it continues for too long. 3. In my story all the humans on pandora get a breathing apparatus operated into their lungs, so they'll be able to breathe 4. Another important detail: in the movie it is only the hallelujah mountains that are floating rocks, but in my Na'vi universe the entire planet is made out of foating pieces of rock of varying sizes held afloat by non-poisenous gasses coming from the core of the planet. The humans name each of these FLR's ("Floating Rocks") 5. The social structure of the na'vi tribes is similiar but not the same, they have a chief and a shaman from there on the males are ranked after their hunting abilities and the females are ranked according to their fathers ranks and when they find their mates they take on their rank. 6.When a na'vi reaches adulthood/becomes one of the people he/she receives a new name with a meaning to it. 7. Females can hunt, but tend to gather plants instead or stay in the camp and look after the children and such, and they will never be considered hunters. 8. About the whole mating ritual: normally the navi choose their mates like we see in the movie, by arranged marriage or simply by whom they fall in love with. The mating ritual contains some rites: regardless of whether or not the two na'vis in question have already slept together - they might even have moved in together - they will not be considered truly mated untill the male stands up before the entire tribe and claims his female by offering her the outcome of his hunt and saying "I want to lay my kill at your feet forever" if the female accepts by picking up the food and saying "my blood is yours" the male will rise and the female will expose her neck to him and he will bite her(just hard enough to draw blood) this creates a mark that will never disappear. However, there is among the na'vi a relatively rare occurence known as "imprinting" where Eywa chooses their mates for them. It occurs after a na'vi has been accepted as one of the people(though not necessarily immidiately after), and it only happens to the male Na'vi. The male Na'vi who imprints on a female will feel an irresistible pull to the female and she will become the center of his universe. According to tradition a na'vi couple is automatically mated once a male has imprinted on a female, the female of course has the right to say no, but that has never occured. Imprinting is considered a gift from Eywa and regardless of whether or not either the female or the male has already chosen their mate they will be allowed to "divorce" their current mates in order to complete the mating and the mark from their previous mating will disappear. Divorces can occur without any imprinting but it doesn't happen often. 9.When a female responds "My blood is yours" it is because when a Na'vi male drinks the blood of his mate (and people, we're only talking like a small mouthful here) his strength increases, not to mention that the male finds great pleasure in this. A female will only let her blood be drunk by her mate. 10. Another detail, in the movie we get the impression that na'vis don't have sex before being mated but in my story it is an individual choice and it is perfectly normal for the na'vis to "fool around" before being mated. But touching anothers mate tends to have consequences. 11. When an unmated male offers a female food that he himself has hunted down and killed, it is considered an obvious show of interest. It is completely unheard of for an unmated male to offer his kill to a mated female, but the na'vi have few official rules so it is not forbidden. However, it is very likely the the mated female's mate will fight the male who offered his mate food. It is considered extremely humiliating for the male if his mate accepts the food. 12. The na'vi males are very possesive of their females and if another male approaches their female they tend to attack. It is normal in a tribe to have the young unmated Na'vis fighting for the females attention, whereas the already mated males tend to be less violent. The females are generally less violent, but if threatened or if they feel someone is getting a little to close to their mate they'll turn aggresive. 13. The Na'vi tribes organize themselves differently like we see in the movie(with the hometree, and the navi's living other places) in the na'vi tribe this story will be focusing on the Na'vi sleep in the treetops, and each family have their own tree. The trees are as big as we see in the movie (even higher than rainforrest size). Females stay with in their family tree untill they are mates, whereas males would most find their own tree to live in after becoming official hunters and being accepted as being part of the people. The good trees(tallest and sturdiest) tend to be occupied by the stronger males. The yound males tend to show consideation for the families who've already established themselves and settled in a tree and will therefore leave them alone. However, sometimes a male will feel the need to establish himself and will take whatever tree he wants, regardless of who lives there. There are 3 tribes within helicopter distance of Clarissas camp. 14. The Chief take the best tree, since the chief is always the best hunter/figther, and the shaman take the next best and no one can steal the tree from her. When a new chief is chosen a tournament is held, and all adult males who wish to participate may do so. The winner will be the next chief. The shaman is always a female and she chooses her apprentice and teaches her all she needs to know before passing on the job. 15. In the movie the planet is illuminated almost every night by the plants and such, in my story sometimes a completely black night will occur. I hope that wasn't too many details :) if you have any questions feel free to send me a message or post your questions under "reviews" so everyone will be able to see the answer. please enjoy the story. |
