![]() Author has written 61 stories for Yu Yu Hakusho, Tsubasa Chronicle, Dragon Knights, Pet Shop of Horrors, Spiral, Clover/クローバー, Bleach, Slayers, Pandora Hearts, and Harry Potter. (Formerly SharkGirl) I remember what a pain it was to not understand any of the jargon used around here and so, to all you newbies, so you need not be baffled, a list: A List of Terms: Canon- Goes with the plot Non- Cannon- Strays far away from the show/story plot onto the writer's version POV-Point of View One Shot- One chapter story were, often, but not always, someone dies OC- Own character or original character, means the author as added other characters to the story besides the original. OC has a bad connotation however and many authors prefer not to use it. OOC- Out of character. This means the story will include wildly outrageous antics that the characters wouldn’t normally do. AU- Alternate universe, another take on the plot, sometimes like a non-cannon but sometimes only a little different, it varies from story to story. Mary-Sue-A cliché character, female, placed in the plot for only romance reasons. This term is very negative and can be used as an insult. Gary-Sue- See above, but male. Yaoi- A pairing of two males, gay Yuri- A pairing of two girls, lesbian Shonen-ai- A pairing of two men, gay, differs from yaoi some in connotation, I think it’s a little lighter than yaoi but I’m not sure. Slash- The same as yaoi, commonly with non-cannon pairings, more often used in non anime groups. Spoiler- Something that could give away important information on things that happen later in a show/story. A NamexAnother Name or ANameAName- Ex: HieixKurama or HieiKurama- Indicates a pairing in the story, usually just an abbreviation for the name is used instead of the full spelling. An OC can also be placed in one of the slots. Lemon- Not the fruit, but the level of graphicness the romance gets too, lemon is the highest rating for this and thus rather graphic, often lemons are rate R (M). Lime- The ranking right beneath lemon, this indicates less graphic romance but still romance in some form or other in a story. Song fic- Primarily a story built around the lyrics of a song. Companion Fic or Sister Fic- A story that closely parallels another, often telling the same thing from another’s point of view. Hentai- Adult stories, more often rate R (M). For older readers. Fluff- A very ‘cute’ story, always romance though a little lacking in plot. AN- Author’s note, every author does this differently but a lot abbreviate to make comments within the story itself. Lurkers- People who read a story or watch on for an update but never review it. It’s rude, but I’ve done it myself more than a few times. Drabble- A short story, also see One Shot (supposedly it must be under 100 or 1,000 words I’m not sure which). R and R or R&R- Read and Review. Well, that’s all the terms for now, if you can think of any I missed or see that I’ve gotten something wrong, just drop me a message and I’ll add/fix it. The Actual Bio Part of the Bio: I've actually changed my username, after years of thinking about doing it. This thrills me more than I can express! Not much special here, I write a lot and I sleep lot. Sometimes, when I look back at all my typos, I think at the same time. I like writing for Yu Yu Hakusho, as it was my first anime series and still remains one of my favorite, but I’m starting to branch out some (Dragon Knights, Pandora Hearts). I have an awesome beta who has all the credit for my stories not being completely riddled with typos and the kind of grammar mistakes you tend to make at three in the morning. I've branched out to LJ and some of my Pandora Hearts stuff will go up there first, especially if it's from the prompt meme. So check it out: http:/// Any questions, concerns, rants about my erratic posting, just message me. ~GRINtelligencer EDIT May 8, 2012 I am currently looking for a new beta/editor. My needs are fairly simple, just basic grammar and typo sweeps and someone who is willing to put their edits in another color so I can see if I am consistently made a mistake and stop doing so. I am also looking for someone who is familiar with either Pandora Hearts or Yu Yu Hakusho or, ideally, has a working knowledge of both series. While I am very willing to work around busy times I would like work back in a week from when I send it but I understand that sometime real life does not make this possible. If you are interested in this post please contact me via PM. ~GRINtelligencer |
