What's up, FanFiction readers? I'm Mr. Spinner, the spinner of stories! I enjoy what I do and want to get better, so I've turned to ya'll (yes, I'm from the South) to make me better. My stories are open (and actively encourage!) to reviews. I'm a fan of many things, too many to list. A brief summation: Literature - Harry Potter, the Inheritance Cycle, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Kane Chronicles, Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard, the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, the Ranger's Apprentice, the Wheel of Time, and the Dresden Files. Movies - ANYTHING DISNEY, the MCU, most DC films. TV Shows - Gravity Falls, Star vs the Forces of Evil, The Owl House, TMNT 2012, Tangled: the Series, Fullmetal Alchemist, the Arrowverse, Once Upon a Time, Supernatural. The list will grow (or shrink) as my muse decides. Will specialize in one-shots, with a few chapter-based stories thrown in. Please bear in mind that I am an optimist at heart, a "glass half full" type of guy, and it will reflect in my writing style. My favorite part of writing is world-building. As such, expect a lot of stories to flesh-out or otherwise expand the "cosmology" of the fandoms I write for. And again, thanks for reading!!! Mr. Spinner's Guidelines for On-Par Fanwork Presentation: 1) Grammar and Spelling - These traits are overlooked or ignored in a sad majority of fanfictions, but are more important than you can know. Clarity is critical in writing; whether the writing is professional, academic, or just for fun. Granted, we are all human and we all make mistakes; I certainly do. But if you want others to enjoy and apprciate your work to the utmost, make sure you pre-read your work as if you were reading someone else's. If that's too much to ask, think about finding a beta-reader who shows good grammar. *I have found more than one work that had a unique and engaging plot and writing, but I could not get into it because of bad grammar and spelling. It really is a deal-breaker. 2) Extend Your Vocabulary - A broad vocabulary is not necessarily essential for good writing, but it is definitely a strong benefit. Repeating the same words over and over again can get tiresome to read, and a wider vocabulary can help you get a point or image across to your readers more organically. Another facet of this is knowing what the words you use actually mean; for those of us who do know, it can be grating to read a word in a description or passage that is technically accurate, but the subtle meanings do not match well. The English language is a varied and beautiful thing, use it to the best of its potential. 3) Passage Length - A general rule of thumb for me when browsing works is to rarely read works with an average chapter word count less than 3,000 words. I try for this length if at all possible - both in reading an writing. If an author doesn't have the will to write more than 3,000 words (roughly eight pages on Microsoft Word) or an idea capable of encompassing that length, then is it really worth reading? Maybe that seems harsh, but it has worked for me for years. *Granted, this rule is flexible with authors I've come to respect. Then I'm willing to take a chance on shorter works. These are simply suggested guidelines for anyone who has trouble finding quality works and who may want to improve their own writing. I am NOT an expert or professional, but I know what I respect. I hope this can help someone, somewhere. Personal OC's Banded Dress and Black Coat: Name: Riften Arason Occupation: Asha'man (formerly Huntsman) Appearance: Tall - Chestnut Hair - Sky-blue eyes - Fair skin - Often smiling Relationships: Bodewhin Cauthon (romantic) Frozen: Rise of Legends: Name: Alphonse Occupation: Sorcerer/Monster Hunter Appearance: Tall - Midnight hair - Differing colored eyes (one deep blue, the other gold) - Fair skin - Aura of sadness Relationships: Elsa (romantic), Hugin and Munin (student), Anna & Kristoff (friends) Favored Kingdom Hearts Ships Sora/Kairi - Because, COME ON, they couldn't be any more blunt about it! And they're so cute! Roxas/Namine - And not just because of the prior. Terra/Aqua - Almost as much as Sora/Kairi. Sibling!Roxas/Xion - They read to me more like siblings than anything romantic. Riku/Xion - I think they go well together, and the relationship is not unfounded (they do know each other, even if Riku doesn't remember). Cloud/Tifa - More than Cloud/Aerith. Not sure why, I just like them better. |
