Happy Birthday Too Have Fallen!

I began this story in January of 2012 as a New Year’s resolution to myself. I have wanted to try my hand at writing a fanfiction for a very long time –back in my Inuyasha reading days- but never had the nerve to try until one day I just sat down and started writing.

I naively thought that getting to 100k words was going to be a piece of cake and that the words would just fly from my fingers. Soon I learned I was wrong, and when I finally hit 10k words, I was doing a happy dance. I am a terribly slow writer.

I told myself only when I finished the story would I post it because I didn’t want to be one of those authors that left their readers high and dry for months on end with no update or abandoning the story all together. Bbbuuutttt that notion quickly flew out the window when I got to 40k words and was nowhere near the end or the middle of the story. So I decided to post when I felt I had enough chapters so I could continue to write and post without having to run out and keep the readers waiting.

It has been an experience for me and I hope that others get the chance to try it. I am dreading the reviews I may receive or not receiving any reviews at all, but I hope to continue writing and posting just because I really enjoy my story.

My husband knows that I read fanfiction. I left my computer unattended and walked back in to find him reading Blind Beauty by Slashpervert at a particular scene (yes, one of those scenes), and he has been making fun of me ever since. The conversations we get up to are hilarious and he can be very creative when it comes to pairings. Haven’t told him I’m writing one yet but I’m sure he will found out one day and pester me about it.

1). First time author and uploading anything to . The system is not what I thought it would be and previewing the chapter is really strange, so apologies for any mistakes while I get familiar with the system.

2). The great Estalita has shown me favor and decided to Beta my story.

As much as I would like to state that my first language wasn’t English and claim plausible deniability on any mistakes, I can’t. Unless of course you consider a southern Alabama public school education a language. In some circles I’m sure I could get away with that.

3). Pairing will be slash HP(bottom)/VL(top) and is nonnegotiable. If there is a pairing you would like to see let me know and I will try and work it in, but the story will center on this pairing and not others.

3). Having an original thought in the vast, populated fanfiction of Harry Potter is hard but it does happen. I have spent many years reading the fiction on different sites all over the intertubes and may have picked up an idea here or there.

Any very original ideas that I use and I remember where I got them from will come with a reference to the author and the story I got it from. Any I forget or that you feel need mentioning (I haven’t read every story there is) please tell me and I will put it down.

I hope to write the author and ask for permission to use the idea but as you well know some authors have dropped off the side of the earth and getting in touch with them is near impossible. I will give them time to respond but if they do not I will use it anyway along with the reference and hope they don’t mind.

4). The concept of my story may be over used but it is one I enjoy and I hope to put a new spin on it that others will find enjoyable.

I wanted to write a story where Harry joins Voldemort but does not become dark!Harry. I want him to keep his morals and fight to keep them from being corrupted during the trials he will face.

I also wanted a bad but not evil Dumbledore. I may end up failing at this point but I wanted a Dumbledore that is acting out of necessity to try and keep the world clean of the Dark Arts. He is trying to protect his people so much that he doesn’t see how he is harming them. He is the grandfatherly, dopy Headmaster but he is also a Machiavellian Light Lord fighting a war. He cares for Harry in a sense that of a strict father raising his son to be the best out there and not falling into the traps of his own youth.

5). OOC may occur but I will try to keep it down as much as I can.

I intend to keep Voldemort as in character as I can…well as in character as I believe he should have been if Rowling didn’t make him a nutcase.

Harry may be a little OOC because I disliked canon Harry. I have a very Slytherin personality and people like canon Harry and Ron anger me, and because of that I think writing in character would be very hard for me. Harry may seem a little wimpy at first but please bear with me, I intend for his character to grow stronger just as the title suggest.

I will try and keep the bashing to a minimum but there are just some characters that I just don’t like, Ron and Ginny being the main ones. I will try and keep Ginny out of the story all together but she is bound to ruin my plans latter on. The friendship between Harry and Ron will slowly deteriorate and I will try and make it plausible –not that a writer needs much help with that considering Ron’s canon personality.

I have a sequel to the story I want to write so the friendship between Harry and Hermione is on the fence at the moment considering if I end up writing it or not.

6). The title is a play on the word ‘to,’ so please no complaints that I used the wrong form of the word. As you know ‘to’ has three forms, ‘to’, ‘too’, and ‘two’. My title can mean ‘To have Fallen,’ or ‘Two have Fallen,’ depending on where in the story the reader is, so just to play around I used the form ‘too’.

7). Every update I hope to include a recommendation to other stories I have found and believe to be hidden gems in the fiction world. Some may not come from Harry Potter, will be crossovers, or not even come from at all. If you wish to recommend something please tell me. I am always up for something good to read.

All I ask is that it be grammatically correct, be of descent length, and completed or updating somewhat frequently. Slash stories are preferable but if its het that’s fine, I’m not picky, but please no PwP.

8). Constructive criticism is always welcomed but flames are not. If you don’t like the story I’m in no way forcing you to read it, and I ask that you not write and tell me so. I have run into plenty of stories on this site that I downright can’t stand for a multitude of reason but I just politely hit the back button and forget I ever read, leaving my thoughts to myself. If you flame my story, all you will be doing is increasing the number of reviews.

Reviews will be answered via E-mail and not during chapters, and author’s notes will be kept short. I hate clicking on stories that boast X amount of words just to find half of it is author’s notes or the author answering reviews in the story wasting space. It ticks me off and should be considered false advertisement. Any reviewers that pointed out something important will be noted in the author’s notes during the story, bring other reader’s attention to the matter, but that will be all.

9). I am a slow writer and I often get distracted while I write: listening to music, talking with the husband, looking up facts on Wiki, and reading over what I have already written to improve it. It is a slow moving process so I ask that you understand. I am in college and will soon be forced to get a job by the husband because he wants a new car. So needy.

10). I have done a lot of research on different concepts I hope to use in the story and I found much of it fascinating. If you run into something you are unfamiliar with I hope you will look it up and learn all about it like I did.

If you feel something about the story should be changed to better it, let me know. I will try and work it around whatever I have already written. But as I said before I have many chapters written in advance and working in an idea that will contradict something I have already written will be rejected or put aside to work in at another time.

Any suggestions for scenes you would like to see let me know. I am always looking for ideas.

11). As this is my first time writing a slash story, the lemon scenes might not be up to pare with others but I will try and make them good. The story will not focus on sex so don’t expect too much of it. Not saying that I am a prude or anything –I enjoy my hot man on man action but I don’t feel I can write it that well. But I feel that too much sex in a story just takes away from it.
