![]() Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Hello. I am an avid fanfic reader, usually in the Harry Potter, Hannibal, and Suits fandoms though I do stray into others if a ship catches my fancy. Interests: slash, yaoi. I usually prefer to read slash fics. Yes, I am a shameless fujoshi. Though I've come across some brilliant fem!Harry fics. Favorite Fandoms: Harry Potter, Hannibal, Suits Now that I've finally started to stop being a lurker and make my own contributions to fanfic writing, I thought I might put updates and warnings on my profile for those unlucky souls who decided to follow my stories. It might be best to just not expect regular updates from me as I can definitely go months before putting up a new chapter. I mainly write when the inspiration hits which explains why I have a lot of plot bunnies but no complete stories. I'll only ever write Harry-centric fics probably, but based on who I decide to pair him with I might play in other fandoms ie: Anita Blake, Game of Thrones. I am currently putting TNGA as my priority story as I actually have more than vague ideas for what to write. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to put my first story LIFB on hold for the moment to properly plan out what I want to write for the story. I adore Tom/Harry so I don't want to mess the story up.HP Fanfic Pet Peeves: 1. Short/Petite Harry - absolutely hate it when Harry is described with a short girly figure especially if he's the bottom in the pairing. One, it's factually untrue, canon Harry may have been short for an 11 year old but he was later described to be the same height as his father (who had not been starved and abused, an excuse a lot of writers like to use). Two, just because Harry is the bottom in the pairing there is no reason to make him all girly; that is just insulting. If I wanted to read het I would have chosen a het fic. 2. Submissive/Weak Harry - this one is as annoying as the first one. Although, I prefer Harry to be the bottom in the relationship, that does not mean that he has to be all weak and weepy and frightened at the smallest things like some kind of damsel in distress. Hell, I prefer my heroines to be badasses so why wouldn't that be the same with my heroes? Harry is most certainly not a damsel in distress waiting around for a big, strong, dominant partner to save and protect him. Harry would be the one doing the saving. What's even more annoying is when Harry is written to have all these magical powers and is supposed to be super powerful but still gets abused and raped every chapter by the Dursleys, random muggles, and/or various Slytherin thugs? Ugh, even if Harry couldn't use magic, can you imagine him taking the abuse lying down, especially from someone like Vernon? Harry was always described to have a rather nasty temper (ex: blowing up Marge, trashing Dumbles' office). And even if, Harry is turned into a slave/whore I imagine that he'll remain defiant and unbroken until the end. Another author once wrote, and I quote "I happen to like smart, strong, interesting main characters that get things right on the first try. And if that makes them a Mary-Sue, then so the hell what. Rather a Mary-Sue than a Lame-Lenore." 3. Harry's Friends Betraying Him For No Good Reason - now, I like to read my fair share of angst and I admit there are some truly awesome dark!slytherin!harry fics out there where the Weasleys, Dumbledore and/or the Order betray Harry and Harry ends up going darkside; but if you're gonna bash a character just so you can add some angst in your story and make Harry go dark then that is a shitty reason to do so. Come up with a more believable and less frustrating reason instead, please. 4. Original Characters and Side Pairings - alright, I have nothing against original characters and it's not like I can do anything about them anyway since I didn't write the fanfic in the first place. However, I absolutely hate it when original characters are placed into a fanfic for NO APPARENT reason but because the author's too lazy to devote an original piece of writing to them. I'm fine with having original characters as long as they serve a purpose and as long as they don't take away the attention from the main characters. It's so annoying to read about these random characters in a fanfic that is ALREADY filled with an amazing and LARGE cast of characters - so my question is WHO THE FUCK CARES?! They are just cluttering up the story and makes reading very tedious. What annoys me even more is when these original characters who were supposed to be minor and supporting characters somehow end up taking up most of the fic and don't even contribute to the plot. However, that's not to say that they are lame or anything, just unnecessary for THIS fanfic. If I wanted to read about an original character in the HP world I wouldn't have searched for a Harry-centric one. Which brings me to side pairings. I don't particularly care about side pairings (even if they are pairings I don't like) as long as they don't detract from the main pairing. Again, too often I have come across a fanfic where there's an entire chapter devoted to a side pairing. Sure I can accept it if it's necessary for the plot but when it's not I just want to growl in frustration. If I wanted to read about a Sirius/Remus pairing THEN I WOULD HAVE SEARCHED FOR A FIC OF THAT PAIRING. 5. Threesomes or Reverse Harems - They can actually be enjoyable to read when done right. It's weird, I hate the idea of harems when it's one guy and multiple girls but adore reverse harems where it's one girl and multiple guys or when it's one uke and multiple semes. I blame all the anime I watch. 6. Exaggerating the Dursleys' Abuse - Seriously, what is up with people and their love for exaggerating the Dursleys' abuse? I swear it has become a trope in this fandom. It's awful enough that they starved and neglected him so why make it worse? It's not like it serves a purpose to the plot. But if it does then I apologize for ranting. I am just sick of writers putting Harry through physical abuse and even rape for no apparent reason. Nobody wants to read about that shit for the hell of it after all, except for sickos that is. It's not like his character wouldn't be cunning and calculating and dark *rolls eyes* without those experiences. Sociopaths can come from loving families too.
