Calypso is a great OC. Probably the best out there. I can't wait to see how her character develops.

—don’t get me wrong, but I hate it when these stories oversimplify or gloss over the “evilness” of the dark side, like this one has done for the first ten chapters. Particularly today, but also almost every time I read a story like this, I can’t help but think about the fact that JK Rowling intended the dark side, to be a metaphor for Hitler and white supremacists and I really want you to think about what that means when you’re writing. There is a tasteful way of saying that there’s probably another side to the story regarding the dark side, but oversimplified it just seems childish and naive at best or horribly prejudiced, disgusting at worst.

1. Bias against muggleborns and muggles is a direct metaphor for racism. Supporting the killing of these muggles/muggleborns—even those who have supposedly “wronged” a magical in some way is lynching at best and genocide at worst.

2. The idea that pure bloods are more magically powerful and that marrying muggleborns/halfbloods “dilutes the power” is meant to parallel the eugenics argument that justified much of the “science” in the Second World War. It’s also portrayed in the books to be clearly false. Harry/Orion is a halfblood with a muggleborn mother. You seem to gloss over the fact that his mom is Lily but it needs to be stated. Dumbledore is a half-blood (implied). Voldemort is also a half-blood. Tonks is a half-blood. In-breeding is shown to be a significant problem in the small, enclosed wizarding communities and I really hate to think that you’re arguing in favor of what is essentially incest here.

There are other small things that are uncomfortable to read in this story but I think these are the two main ones, if only because of how awful it is that a fanfic is even associating with these kinds of ideas. You’re at your creative freedom to characterize people however you like and change up the story however much you want, particularly as this is a fantasy genre at the end of the day. But fantasy doesn’t exist in a vacuum and neither should you delude yourself into thinking that the subtext of this story up until where I have read is any less prominent than the actual words written on the page. You can call it mudbloods and not people of color or “justice” and not lynchings but at the end of the day, it is what it is.

Parselmouth magic is probably one of the worst things this fandom came up with cause it simply does not exist. It is simply the ability to talk to serpentine creatures. Said creatures will also have a natural desire to follow you.
