Author has written 17 stories for Ranma, Kim Possible, Farscape, and How to Train Your Dragon. I am a male in his mid-30s who enjoys science fiction, graphic arts/animation, and action shows. Science Fiction My first love in entertainment. I can remember getting up at 6:30 on Saturday mornings to watch Robotech when I was little. The first movie I ever remember seeing in a theater was Star Wars, although I don't remember much about it. I grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars. I can remember the original Battlestar Galactica and going to my grandmas to watch reruns of Lost in Space, Buck Rogers, and The Million Dollar Man on cable. I railed against the cancellation of Farscape and Firefly. I was a little sad when the reimagined Battlestar Galactica ended. I've read every one of Jules Verne's novels and all of H.G. Wells works. I still have my original Foundation series paperbacks setting right next to my collection or Ring World books. I found the Battletech world engrossing as Michael Stackpole wove a tale of politics and war in a far flung futuristic setting. Graphic Arts/Animation My favorite manga is Ranma 1/2. I like the relationship between Ranma and Akane. To me their relationship is the main storyline in the series, the heart of the story. After being introduced to it during college I walked away from the fan community close to a decade ago because of all the negative attitudes and refusal by some to let others enjoy what they wanted to enjoy. Fortunately, I rediscovered my joy for Ranma a few months back and after lurking in the community for a bit and reading some fanfiction I have decided to see about finally finishing my stories that I started or at least letting others know where they stand. Other than Ranma 1/2 I really enjoy other animation and graphic arts. Below are some of my favorites. -All of Rumiko Takahashi's other works (other than Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, and Rin-ne I have only experienced her other works through anime) Action Shows Other than the nearly mandatory love of Jackie Chan movies, I also enjoy the television shows Burn Notice, Psych, Chuck, and Bones. If this and my other favorites haven't given it away yet I really enjoy the action/comedy/romance stories. I bore quickly of action shows with little comedy, and I am a romantic at heart, as much as that vexes me. Writing I am not a writer by trade, nor am I particularly talented at it. English was my least favorite class in high school and I took as little of the language arts as I could in college. However, after reading and reviewing enough fanfiction I finally decided to put my money where my mouth was and took the plunge into fanfiction writing. To say that my first work was bad is being nice. However, I improved with the help of the community and editors willing to give of their time. I still have a ways to go, but I enjoy it and if others can find some pleasure in my works then great. I have only done fanfiction in three different fandoms: Ranma 1/2, Farscape, and Kim Possible. Ranma 1/2 is the only one that I am actively producing works in. I have written more since I first started on my Ranma stories. I have also spent more time studying story telling and have read and worked with some truly amazing writers. They have taught me a lot. When I came back to Ranma and looked at what I had I realized something. The were not that good. My completed works were very rough, as would be expected from my first works. I hope that someday I will look back at what I am writing today and think the same thing, as I know that I have a lot to learn. Writing Status I have placed Softer Side on indefinite hiatus. Coming back I saw the glaring weakness in the storyline as I had it outlined. It is going to take a lot of work to save it from being at best mediocre. As it is, I just couldn't find the will to spend the time on it. Maybe someday, but I doubt it. There are other stories that I would rather tell. I am actively working on To Marry a Tendo, but it is slow going. It had many of the same weaknesses that Softer Side had, but I always liked this story better. Since, I did like it so much I took it into triage and started trying to save it. I think that I have a better story crafted of it now than what it was, but it also isn't hardly anything like what I had originally envisioned. In fact, I basically threw out the old outline past what I have written and started fresh. I am excited about what I have and hopefully should have the next chapter out soon. |
