Last month I went to Comic Con as a representative for Daemon's TV and found myself sitting in press rooms and interviewing casts of various television shows. The two highlights of the week came when I got the chance to speak with members of the casts, as well as writers from Supernatural and NCIS: Los Angeles. It was quite literally a dream come true. To check out the videos of the interviews, check out my blog post all about it: ooOOOoo Update - July 7, 2010 I've been hired by Daemon's as a tv review writer! This is super exciting for me and I invite everyone to check out the site. It's a great source for all things media, with pics, video clips, reviews, articles and much much more. Here's a link to their "About" page and a welcome post, which features little old me as one of their writers. *blushes* http:///2010/07/06/please-welcome-daemons-tvs-new-writers/ From there, you can see all the reviews I have written. Right now I'm reviewing Lie To Me, Chase, Castle, Hawaii Five-0, NCIS, NCIS:Los Angeles, Human Target, Terriers, Psych, Bones, Private Practice, Blue Bloods and Supernatural. I'll also be reviewing White Collar when it returns in January, as well as a whole different batch of shows in the summer. I have also done interviews, opinion articles and entertainment news on the site. Once again thanks to everyone up on this site for their wonderful support! Without all of my fanfic friends, I would never have been able to make this big step in my career. As always, you guys rock! :o) ooOOOoo Who is 'Mokibobolink'? Hello all, First things first, since I get asked all the time what my pen name means (and how to pronounce it, LOL), I figured I'd explain here. When I was a teenager, I had a pony named Moki Bobolink (sounds like "MOE-key BAH-bo-link"). When I started going online and needed to pick a user name, I decided to go with Bobbi's (her nickname) name because it was unusual. Since it wasn't attached to any particular fandom, I could also use it anywhere. Then one day, while chatting on the Harry Potter board on IMDb, someone dubbed me "Moki" for short and it stuck. I like that nickname a lot and even go by it in RL sometimes. I use the name everywhere, not just here so if you ever see "Mokibobolink" on another site, it's always me. I can't imagine anyone else wanting to steal it. LOL. So there ya go, a history of how "Moki" came to be. Oh and for anyone who'd like to see a pic of the "real" Mokibobolink - here's a link to an old photo I found of us. Wasn't she super cute? http:///albums/ii87/Mokibobolink/Bobbi.jpg Now that we've gotten past the pen name, here's a little more info about me. I'm a female living in Southern California and after getting laid off of a corporate job in 2009, I decided to jump into freelance writing. Writing fanfiction helped me hone the skills I needed for my new career and I'm so grateful to everyone up here who read my stories and especially those who took the time to write reviews. Without that I would never have been brave enough to strike out on my own as a professional writer. The first blog I created is called The Positively Positive. I started it initially because I was so sick and tired of going to "fan" sites and finding nothing but complaints about a show. I actually like talking about what I like about stuff, so that's what I decided to do. At first I did nothing but reviews of tv shows, but now it has grown and I am doing reviews of pretty much anything - tv shows, books, movies, music, concerts, conventions, amusement parks, you name it. So if you've created something you'd like me to review, drop me a line. ooOOOoo My second blog is called Moki's Fanfiction Blog and I'm really excited about it as it is a subject I'm quite passionate about (as if you can't tell, LOL). I will not be posting any stories up there as I think this site does that just fine (though I will have links to all my stories on it). Instead I will be discussing the topic itself. Everything from tips for fanfic writers, discussions about the various genres out there (h/c, slash, etc), to recommendations of great sites and stories to check out. This blog is for anyone who loves fanfiction, whether they read it, write it, or are thinking about penning their first story. ooOOOoo More updates... My NCIS story "Black Ice" was translated into French! Many thanks to Daniellano1702, who asked for permission to translate my story, which just blew me away. Here is the link to it, for any who are interested: http://www.fanfiction.ws/s/5322046/1/Black_Ice_Verglas "Black Ice" was also nominated in the NCIS Fanfic Awards. http:///ncis_awards/12410.html Thanks to everyone for their wonderful support of this story. Never in a million years did I think my little fic about Tony and Gibbs getting into a car accident would turn out to be so popular. You guys are awesome! -Moki ooOOOoo My Writing Style... I thought I'd put a little note up here about my writing style, especially for my NCIS stories, since I do get asked about it from time to time. First off, you'll probably notice that I display the last line of the chapter (in italics) at the beginning of each chapter. The first time I sat down to write my very first NCIS fanfic (titled 'I've Got You'), this just came to me because I found myself unable to think of an NCIS story without the "phump". For those of you who don't know, the "phump" is the name of the sound that goes along with the black and white images that start each act of the show, echoing the final scene in the act before it goes to commercial. Putting the final line at the beginning of the chapter is my literary version of a "phump". Also I should warn everyone that I really love ending chapters in "evil cliffies" (aka a cliff-hanger). You can blame that one on the show too. Seems to me that most "phump" scenes are cliff hangers - take a look the next time you watch an ep and see how many of them are a bit "cliffy". So really, it's not my fault that I write NCIS that way. :o) |
