Reviews for A Sense of Duty
visions2share chapter 1 . 2/9
I like this a lot. I haven't read it before although "A Sense of Family" has been on my favorite stories list for almost a decade. (Seriously - the website says I added it in July of 2010!) I'm so pleased I found this. Thanks for posting - your introspective style is moving and well worth reading and rereading over and over again as the years go by. ~ Vi

That is truly heartbreaking... are you a parent? I’d bet you are, to make us feel Gibbs’ fatherhood vs Kelly and Tony so truly and strongly.
Loved each and every line of it!
Adelled chapter 1 . 4/7/2018
Loved it.

No more truer words have ever been spoken. You nailed what being a dad is all about. Very nice job. Congrats on a nice piece of story-telling.

What a brilliantly insightful take on this moment between Gibbs and Senior! I'm in awe with your writing skills here. It was better than all I could have imagined. You show so well what Gibbs feels and thinks and what he ultimately allows himself to do and say out of a sense of duty to Tony. It was so beautiful it hurts inside!

Hi,

Beat it with a stick? I don’t think so!

I like that this has a dark edge to it, that Senior might have overstepped the mark in the past. I love the telling little detail “…Gibbs has seen the way Tony looks at him when the bourbon is too strong on his breath: wary and careful, and watching Gibbs’ hands, always his hands”.

The show seems to have backed away from that interpretation and elected to go down the charming scoundrel route, which I think is a pity.

Nailed it with the final line, too.

_ MIND. BLOWN. WOW. DUDE. WOW. WWOOWW. THAT WAS...AMAZING. Again...mind completely and utterly blown. Caller me impressed.
In fact, I was blown every time a sentence started because you are THAT good of a writer.
Holy crap!
That was flipping fantastic!
WOW! Again, hundreds of wows that could not express my love and adoration to this story.
JEEZ!
It was...REALLY good.
I'm serious.
It... O.O just...gawsh
Nightstalcer chapter 1 . 1/26/2015
Since I discovered communities on this site (a present to everyone like me, searching the whole archive by themselves in the hunt for good stories and romance-oc-crap that is outside there. I of course I also found your story and I loved it. I cherished this moment from the episode and I'm kinda sad it didn't watch in in the original language, maybe I will do that just to hear the exact words. But the translation to German is mostly good enough.
Anyway, your version of Senior works perfectly with the one portayed in canon, which is something I do not like about many stories where senior is a monster, hating his son with a passion and no cdare whatsoever. It makes sense that he mellowed over the years and he still shows his true nature when confronting Gibbs and warning him off. Great story you did here and now I'm gonna be searching for more great stories. Hope you aren't too surprised that I commented on such an old story.
