Author has written 5 stories for Inuyasha. Hellooooo! It really is a pleasure to be back. Life has moved on and I'm starting my career soon, but fan fiction and storytelling has always had a special place in my heart. I never stopped writing, but I haven't been back here in a while. I'm so happy to be writing Raw Forgiveness again. I just finished it and now I'm starting on Nama Yurushi. Same universe, just a continuation of the story. I really hope you guys enjoy it. As always, I welcome any messages, flames, reviews and requests. If you need a beta or want me to check out your stories (or anyone else's) I would love to help. Special Note: I've heard some people question my writing ability because I only have four stories on this site, three of which are incomplete because I stopped writing them halfway through. Writing is in my profession, it is all I do. Storytelling isn't, but it is something I have done many times and I enjoy. This website isn't where the majority of my writing is posted. If you like Raw Forgiveness, then that should be enough. Since this is my critiques page, I'll give you guys a little insight on some things I have seen (read): 1. The most important thing you should always ask yourself before you write a fanfic is, "Why am I writing this fanfic?" If it is because you felt like it, but you're not even sure of the story line... wait a bit. If it is because you have a story that you feel like the world should read, go for it. Too many "stories" on this site are merely diary entries: they don't have a plot and the ending is no where in sight. 2. The whole Naraku-abusive-father/boyfriend-of-Kagome/Inuyasha story has been done so many times my eyes are bleeding. Please, let's try something different. Now, if you think you can do it better, bash Naraku to no end, but change it a bit. Add someone in the story that wasn't there before, or make a different outcome. I've read some pretty good ones myself, so I know you guys can do it. I'll be looking for it! 3. If you're writing a serious story, let's make the characters realistic. In some of the stories I've read, the characters are far from believable. Let's say Inuyasha is thinking over and over about why he saw Kagome kiss Miroku after she told him there was NOTHING going on, and he can't get it off his mind. Kagome isn't dating him or anyone, but she seems like she might want to be with Inuyasha. Would he a) take her out to dinner and not even hint that he is worried, b) get angry and stomp off, or c) pull her to the side and demand an answer? I'll make it a poll question. Tell me what you think. 4. You guys... if I see another story about a new student in school that has a deep dark secret, I will scream. GET OVER IT ALREADY! IT'S A GREAT STORY LINE! IT HAS NICE STRUCTURE! BUT IT'S BEEN DONE A MILLION TIMES!! 5. You should never try to judge your own writing with the reviews that you receive. Writing should be fun! BUT! Some people have tons of reviews to their stories because, yes, they are truly great stories. If you think you have a fantabulous story, and you have like 1 review for every five chapters, then here are some things that may be keep people from reading: a. Your summary. Does it grab the readers' attention? Does it have proper grammar and spelling? Does it sound like everyone else's? Believe it or not, these are some factors that keep people from pressing that link that opens them to the world known as your fanfic. If someone thinks it will be a waste of time to read it, seeing as the summary is the first impression, they simply won't read it. b. All of your grammar. If someone can't read your story, than they just won't! I don't want to have to figure out what the character is saying if it supposed to be readable! 6. You guys... am I missing something? Is there a new trend I'm missing? Why is it that people ask again and again QUESTIONS in their summaries that are COMPLETELY OBVIOUS? I can't understand it. It's just gets annoying after a while people. It's always, "Kagome is a cute preppy cheerleader with a heart of gold. A new student comes with a dark secret. Will Kagome find out? Will love ensue? Will all kinds of hell break loose?!" Of course it will people! All that stuff will happen because you said it will by asking the question. Stop asking questions and leave your reader guessing. They will want to read more if they only have a clue as to what is going to happen. People love mysteries. Period. mew...mew... |
