BG224 chapter 19 . 8/20/2019 Just binged Kagome and Inuyasha’s baby for perhaps the third time. I’m still absolutely in love with the stories even after all this time. Thank you for the wonderful read—it’s amazing to be able to go back and feel all the nostalgia |

Sgt. Sporky chapter 1 . 1/12/2019 I'd have left this at the end but I've reviewed there before. I picked this story back up and reread it because nostalgia has been plaguing me for some time, and I remembered it being quite good. It still is. I noticed things I didn't before- like the first and last chapters being bookends, and a little terrifying if also sweet. However, it's not the case (at least in Japan) that "anyone" can get a gun. Their restrictions on firearms are positively ludicrous, insane and over the top. Getting ANY sort of gun there is actually harder than getting a machine gun in America- which is still an exceedingly tedious and expensive process wherein you must first FIND a machine gun someone is willing to sell (all legal MGs in the US are manufactured BEFORE 1980-something and thus there is a quite limited supply), rack up the tens of thousands of dollars (supplydemand), pay the transfer fee (all legal MGs are (unconstitutionally, one might add) registered) and do all that damn waiting. That said, violent criminals do of course exist in Japan, and, as in other nations with overbearing gun control, they find other tools- knives, bats, wooden kendo practice swords, or even actual swords. Violent assholes will use whatever they can get their hands on, and are always a concern. I also noticed you spent a lot more time getting in people's heads and talking about issues someone like Inu might have being a dad, and so on, and less time on how cool Hikari and all her powers are than on the shocking amount of trouble they cause, and the moral and parenting dilemmas inherent in the solutions to the problems caused by trying to raise a superpowered child, and, while the story revolved around her (naturally), it was just as much about Inu and Kagome stuggling to be good parents and dealing with the extensive foolishness that young parents often do, especially being told how to raise their children by strangers- parents as people. Inuyasha struggling to keep from wringing someone's neck usually makes my day. Being related to canon main characters is often a hallmark of a Mary Sue, but you made it work by not making her the only character who mattered, making her imperfect and capable of doing wrong, and not making her an overpowered superfreak, plus providing more or less natural/reasonable explanations for what extraordinary powers she did display. All else aside, it's been sweet to read this again because, basically, it makes me feel nice inside. |
