Author has written 5 stories for Merlin. Update - I would like to stick a disclaimer on here that I haven't updated this profile in a while and I'm a bit too tired to do so at the moment, so please, feel free to write off anything overly ridiculous/pompous/insulting as the ramblings of someone without a fully functioning frontal cortex. Thank you. In other news, I've made a test run into the realm of poetry, length and success of which is yet to be determined. If you would like to participate in this little expedition of mine (i.e., offer constructive criticism or maybe a kind word, if it strikes you), feel free to check out my attempts thus far over at fictionpress.com. My poems are published under the same username. Thanks for reading! About me: I'm a female of the human variety, born less than thirty years ago. I'm on the young side of life, but I suppose you could say I'm a bit of an old soul; many of my friends have a good number of years on me, and I've always felt a bit ahead of my school-mates in the maturity department. I am very musically inclined. I enjoy acting as a sounding board for authors and people in general, letting people bounce their ideas off of me and echoing with some of my own to work out story lines, life issues, or just debate whatever comes to mind. I am also a Christian and I attend a missionary church. I love fairy tales and happy endings, and I believe that while there is breath in your body, there is a fully graspable chance for everyone to find redemption and a happy ending. So what started as a collection of stories I enjoy has developed into an increasingly obsessive habit. In my quest for fabulous stories I've come up with a fair few of them myself... in my mind, that is. These stories ought to be written, but to be honest, I don't have much of a desire to write them; I'd much rather leave that bit up to someone with a passion for such things. In any case, I figured I can just put my ideas up here and (hopefully) have them adopted by someone who will enjoy them. (*If you're someone who talked to me about adopting one of the stories, my plan is to keep the plot up on the adoption list until you're sure you want to write it, so if you've made a clear decision, let me know and I'll send you another copy of the plot bunny and remove it from the list.) Back to point: All story ideas are up for adoption! Just let me know when you write them so I can have the pleasure of reading them! Update 6/6/13 If you are looking for the super-long list I had up here, don't panic. My increasingly ridiculous profile length has finally made me decide to remove all my adoptable plot-bunnies from viewing on this profile page. You are still more than welcome to take a look. :) The entire collection is saved on GoogleDocs right now, and I am happy to PM or email the list to anyone who'd like to see it, whether you're looking for a cure for writers block, or just browsing for a new bit of reading material. (The list is honestly over three pages long in 9 point font so it could keep you occupied for a bit.) I have plot bunnies and prompts written up for A Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale, The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, Disney's Pocahontas, James Cameron's Avatar, BBC's Merlin (so many ideas for Merlin) and ABC's Once Upon a Time. Okay, so that's all out of the way. Maybe I'll tell you a bit more about myself now... or at least the stuff I like. Books: The Bible, The Chronicles of Narnia (C. S. Lewis- EVERYONE EVER SHOULD READ THIS SERIES), Goose Girl (Shannon Hale), A Book of a Thousand Days (Shannon Hale), Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen), Princess For Hire [series] (Lindsey Leavitt), Ella Enchanted (Gail Carson Levine), Crown Duel [previously published as two books, Crown Duel & Court Duel] (Sherwood Smith), Frog Princess [series] (E. D. Baker), Fairy Wings [previously titled Wings: A Fairy Tale] (E. D. Baker), Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow [all one] (Jessica Day George), Dragon Slippers [trilogy] (Jessica Day George) Musical Artists: Rush of Fools, Addison Road, Britt Nicole, Brooke Fraser, Brandon Heath, Josh Wilson, Steven Curtis Chapman, Francesca Battistelli Movies: More or less all the Disney-princess movies (I won't bother naming all of them for now- note that sequels are NOT included in this), How to Train Your Dragon, Avatar, Courageous, Pride & Prejudice (specifically the 1980 and 2005 versions), Pirates of the Caribbean, The Nutcracker, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938 starring Errol Flynn), Roger & Hammerstein's Cinderella (The acting/actors from Julie Andrews' version, the additional songs/scenes from the other versions) Ballets: Cinderella, The Nutcracker Plays: Beauty and the Beast, (The Celtic) Sleeping Beauty, Phantom of the Opera (for the singing, not so much the story- kind of creepy in my opinion), Brother's Grimm Spectaculathon Television Shows: Psych, Merlin, Once Upon A Time Off-the-air Television Shows: Cinderella Monogatari (single season- 1985, I think?), Jim Henson's The Story Teller (First season only- 1980), Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics (1980s as well, I think), Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971), M*A*S*H (1972-1983), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955-1959) Fairy Tales: Maid Maleen (A Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale is based on this), Cinderella, Snow-White and Rose-Red, The Old Woman in the Wood, The True Bride, The Princess in Disguise (aka Allerleirauh, aka Roughskin- probably my all time favorite), Six Swans, Bearskin (tied for favorite with The Princess in Disguise) There are several tv shows/movies/whatever that have made it to my list of favorites below but not here. This is mostly because I enjoy the idea of most tv shows/books/etc without liking them really. For example, I read a lot of Danny Phantom and a decent amount of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I also haven't seen either of these shows in many years. I like the idea behind them though, and the basic plot I remember. The downside to this is that I might forget some important plot detail; the upside, however, is that it leaves a lot to the imagination of the reader. I can enjoy fanfictions with a lot of out-of-character moments because without being overly familier with each individual character, I can simply imagine them however I wish, and make adjustments to best fit how I think it should go. So I can make Paulina from Danny Phantom a misunderstood girl who isn't really as self-absorbed as she seems and make or enjoy a cute Danny/Paulina story. Similarly I can enjoy Katara/Zuko stories from Avatar: The Last Airbender because I can imagine Zuko as being softer, Katara not-so-stubborn, and killing off Mai entirely as I see fit. It makes the number and variety of stories I read much broader and more enjoyable. Some dearly appreciated, possibly thought-provoking quotes "All get what they want, they do not always like it." C. S. Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Magician's Nephew) "After the game, the king and the pawn go in the same box." "'Reality's not such a pleasant thing today.' 'No, it's not,' Gaius replied, the half-smile fading from his face and the light in his eyes dimming. 'Still, it's what we have, and we shouldn't squander it.'" Ellijay (Merlin & Gaius, “The-Swords-of-Medhir” a Merlin fic) "Trust takes years to build, seconds to destroy, and forever to replace." merlinismylife ("Gwaine and his quest to help Merlin" a Merlin fic) "If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world." CS Lewis "Love is measured by its fullness and its purity, not by its acceptance" chromeknickers ("Unrequited" an Avatar: The Last Airbender fic) "Resentment is a ridiculous and dangerous emotion. It is like drinking poison and then waiting for your enemies to die. You wait and you wait but you fail to realize that it is you who is dying, bit by bit, inch by inch." K'diwa Eldariel ("The Redemption of the King" a Chronicles of Narnia fic) "Anyone can learn to hate and to kill and to destroy. It takes courage and strength to show mercy. Anyone can abuse an enemy that has hurt them. It takes self-control to heal him." wilderness-writer ("Dangerous Ground" an Avatar: The Last Airbender fic) "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to carry on despite that fear." "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” The Bible (2 Peter 3:9) “1You are the children of the LORD your God… 2 the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession.” The Bible (Deuteronomy 14:1-2) Some (debatably) useful information for writers: Welcome to my growing compilation of grammar, spelling (ha! as if I can spell...) and general writing rules often forgotten in the English language. Whenever I see a recurring mistake across fictions, I'll be making a note of it here - in other words, whenever I see a recurring thought pattern of "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." If there's something you think should be added (or something that needs correcting on my part) let me know, and I'll be happy to make adjustments. Hope this helps :) Should of, Would of, Could of...When phrases like these appear in writing, they don't look how they sound. While many people pronounce these phrases in this way, what's actually being said is a contraction of should/would/could and the word "have". So there is no "of" at all. It's actually should've, would've and could've. (Random, but while we're sitting here, can we just take a good look at the word "could" and appreciate how odd it's spelled. It just looks weird in my opinion.) Led, Lead and Lead... When "lead" rhymes with "need," it refers to the action of leading. The past tense of lead (like need) is led. When "lead" sounds like "tread" it refers to the chemical element Pb. More on the way... PS-let me know if you'd like recommendations for more books/fairy tales or what-have-you. I read a lot :) Happy writing and reading everyone! | |||||||
