Those Five-0 fans who were jealous of my trip to Oahu can laugh because it poured rain the week I was there. But I still managed to eat a malasada and a coco puff and I managed to see "Five-0 headquarters" (the Ali'iolani Hale — my new Avatar picture) with the statue of Kamehameha, the Paradise Pool at Hilton Hawaiian Village where Danny swam with Grace, and the bunker where Wo Fat held Steve. Oh, and I saw Danny and Chin. Well, I saw Scott and Daniel filming a scene, so I saw Danny and Chin, right? So I guess you can still be jealous. But I wish I'd seen that famous Hawaiian sunshine. Still, it did inspire my story Stormy Weather.

I have been writing fan fiction since Lorne Green's "Bonanza" was a new series. First I just told stories to my little sister, then I wrote for apas and fan zines. Now the new "Hawaii Five-0" has inspired me to write again and to attempt to post stories. I'm not up on all the terminology. Would my stories tend to count as hurt/comfort? I called them "clobberations," where one character gets in trouble (injured, captured) and another rescues him/her. I always liked buddy stories and Steve McGarrett and Danny Williams are my favorite pair at the moment.

I didn't plan any long, multi-chapter pieces, but life happens. I've got a couple of 18-chapter fics running as of February 2012. Most of my stuff is shorter, one to four chapter stories. On the plus side, the stories will be done before I post them. I was a reporter. I meet deadlines.

Mostly I'm writing for the new Hawaii Five-0, but this summer's Avengers movie has startled a few plot bunnies, too. And I found a computer at work that allowed me to open some of my 15-20 year old stories and translate them into text files, so now I have a long Lancer western mystery (just because it's set mostly in Boston doesn't mean it's not a Western) and stories from my all-time favorite animated series, Galaxy Rangers. I work as a copy editor, proofreader and page layout person for a group of daily and weekly newspapers in Southern California. Yes, newspapers still exist. Support them. Because I'm a copy editor, spelling mistakes leap off the page at me. Misspellings I don't mind so much — I don't catch all my typos — but using the wrong word smacks me right out of a story. Like "ore" instead of "oar." Remember, spell checkers can't be trusted. They must be watched at all times.

A few mistakes I see too often: viscous for vicious. Vicious means Mean. Viscous means thick and gooey, like syrup. A shutter goes on a window; shudder is a shiver. Soldier is the word for an army guy; solider means more solid.
