A/N: Thank you everyone for being so patient, and for commenting on the last story I posted. This will be the last of these for what is likely going to be a long time as I start a new Five-O prompt set. Thank you so much for reading!

Where did that hole come from? (joyfuljaj)

You're Welcome

Danny and Steve arrived at yet another crime scene, only to be greeted by police tape and an overly prepared work crew. A man walked up to them, handed them hardhats and protective eyewear and then showed them into the the actual crime scene where Max was hard at work.

"Where did the hole come from?" Danny asked as he looked to the man he assumed was a foreman, and then motioned just past Max to a hole in the floor that shot right up through the roof of the house.

The man shrugged, shook his head and said, "hell if I know, I'm just here to fix it once you're done." He then walked away leaving the investigators to investigate.

"So helpful," Danny said sarcastically.

"What can you tell us Max?" Steve asked as he turned his attention to more pressing matters.

"Cause of death; blunt force trauma," Max answered.

"From whatever made the hole?" Danny asked.

"I found it!" Eric cried as he rushed back into the building.

"Found what?" His uncle asked with exasperation in his tone.

"The hot water tank," Eric answered. "That's what made the hole," he added proudly. "It was a catastrophic failure of the pressure mechanism that turned the tank into a missile and rocketed it out of the house. It went pretty far too. The debris field is isolated to the area around the house and the holes, but the tank itself landed in the jungle about a hundred yard back."

"So this isn't a murder scene, just a giant accident?" Steve asked.

"Oh no, this is a murder," Max said and motioned to the lifeless female he'd been working on. "She was dead before the hole. Blunt force trauma to the head caused by what I am going to assume is a fire poker. If you look closely at the wound, the pointed curve went right into her head." He added and motioned to the bloody wound. "The body downstairs, near where the tank should be, was not a murder, but rather, caused by the tank explosion."

"So one murder, one accident?" Steve asked.

"Did you find the murder weapon?" Max asked as he looked to Eric.

"No, but there is evidence of excavation in the basement," Eric answered. "I just can't get to it because of the debris."

"What do you mean excavation?" Steve asked.

"Well, it looks like someone or something chipped away at the concrete to make a hole, yes another hole, likely to bury something. In this case, I'd be confident in assuming that it was the murder weapon being buried and not actually the victim because the hole has been filled in with new concrete. I know it is new concrete because splinters of wood that were launched into it as sticking up like sticks in the sand. Also, there is a large plastic bucket with concrete residue and a drill with a concrete mixing attachment down there located probably directly below where you are now standing. Again, I can't get to it because of the hole and the debris, but that's my assumption. The work crew is here to tell us if the house is still structurally sound, so that I can continue my investigation, but if it is not, they are going to have to reenforce the structure and will likely contaminate the crimes scene. We're hoping that that isn't the case, but as you can see, the tank rocketed through the floor and the roof, and now there is a gaping hole where structure should be."

"Thank you Eric, for that long winded explanation," his uncle said with a sigh.

"So while hacking away at the concrete the murderer was blown up by his water heater?" Steve asked.

"Karma," Danny said with a sarcastic chuckle.

"That is what this looks like, but I don't think we can know fore sure until we identify the bodies," Max said.

Danny scanned the rest of the room, nearly untouched by the localized blast of the appliance projectile. He scooped up a photo from a buffet table and held it out to Steve. "This look like her?" He asked.

Steve took a closer look and nodded.

"This look like him?" He asked his nephew and held out the photo.

"Yeah, that's the guy!" Eric said.

"Cased solved: husband kills wife, buries weapon in basement, get's blown up by water heater," Danny said and placed the photo back on the shelf. "If anyone else needs me, I'll be in the office getting caught up on paper work. You're welcome!"
