Eight and Mutual Understanding will definitely, definitely be updated. I just don't know when. I really don't. I wish I could promise something, but I really can't, so I won't. Your pm's and reviews are really making me want to write, and I will do so whenever I have the mental and creative energy available to write. Please continue the encouragement! I suck it up like a sponge. Sluuuuurrrpp! Yum!

Anyway, they are not abandoned! In fact, partial chapters are done on both, and I know the ending to Eight already. I haven't decided how far to take Mutual yet.

Hm. The story remains good; the word choices remain... odd.--Thanks! I write in a way that pleases me; I write things I would want to read. I love the richness of language, and all the mental pictures you can create with it. I know you didn't mean the comment as a compliment, but in my mind, it is one.

"Hermione’s lilting, sonorous breath": sonorous means having or producting sound, and synonyms include resonant, resounding, or ringing. So is Hermione snoring, to have such loud breaths?

--Have you ever laid next to a truly relaxed person? They breathe deeply and it does make a repetitive breathy noise.

"the earthy door" - um... why the door earthy?
-- It was heavy.

"filling up on pasties and teacakes" I'm pretty sure you meant pastries here, but I was entertained because pasties are the meat-and-potato pies they eat in Michigan.
--Perhaps they do eat pasties in Michigan, but they eat them in England as well. They were my favorite treat while in London.

"The sound of a piano pealing precursively from a distant room in the baneful manor sent a slight chill up the professor’s weary spine as he descended the inadequate stairwell." This rather reads like a madlibs.
--I know. It's called a mood paragraph, which I learned about in a writing workshop.

Precursively - is that a word?
-- I mean it as a derivative of the word precursor; in such a manner to indicate something is about to happen. The word precursive means: 1. of the nature of a precursor; preliminary; introductory: precursory remarks.
2. indicative of something to follow: precursory indications of diseas. I turned it into an adverb. I liked it that way, and it is my piece, after all. I've studied poetry quite a bit, and they're always manipulating and creating language... it rubbed off.

I actually like the term "baleful manor" - it does seem to describe Grimmwald place pretty well. But why is the stairwell inadequate? does it fail in it's primary duty of.. containing stairs?
--Throughout the story the characters brush up against one another on the stairs. In those moments, if one is visualizing the story, it would seem the stairs are too narrow for the traffic they see. It is inadequate in that, for a large manor, one would expect a grand, sweeping staircase. Wouldn't one?

I will stop now, because I'm sure I will soon discover the length limit on the review function. My point is mostly that your imagination and story-telling abilities are strong; you don't need to throw in a bunch of extra adjectives that'll just make people argue over meanings (like I just did).
--I'll keep that in mind. But then, what would set my stories apart?

I am so relieved that I've finally updated Eight. I know where it's going, and it will definitely be updated again. Thank you to all those who reviewed and messaged during the wait! You're all very kind and helped my muse snake back into my keyboard. ;) For those of you who've so thoughtfully expressed concern, I'm happy to report I'm happier than I've been in my entire life! One of my best friends says she watches my life like a film; it always turns on a dime. I can assure you that's happened again, dear readers, only it's for the better! For fans of Mutual, I've written a few pages of the next chapter. Would you prefer to read what I've written, or wait for a longer, more complete chapter?

I've neglected you, dear readers! Alas, I've been hit with a rather unusually severe bout of depression as of late. Luckily, I've got only a month until summer holiday. I can't promise I'll update before then. I've just not been in the mood to write, or even to read that much, which is so unlike me. Then, over this weekend, I had horrible allergic reactions and almost landed in hospital. I've been shaking and covered in hives... Anyway, I just wanted to make sure you knew I have most definitely not abandoned either of my fics. I know where they're going, and I can't wait until my muse comes flitting back to my consciousness. Had a couple of thoughts. I just posted a review, and in it I said:

I can imagine you were quite pleased with yourself when this scene played itself out in your head; and well you should be! Is that how your writing comes to you - played like a movie scene in your mind? That's how it happens with me. Hmmm...metacognition is a bit odd, eh?

So my question to other authors is - how do story ideas/dialogue/scenes, etc., come to you? I am very intrigued and interested in this topic. Please pm or e-mail me at lilyelizabethsnape@.

As for Eight and Mutual Understanding...

I am definitely continuing with both; don't worry.

The next chapter of Eight requires research, and I've just begun that. In other words, that chapter is taking longer than anticipated due to looking things up. However, I have a very strong sense of where that story is going, precisely, right up to -- Well, I can't tell you that, now, can I? ;)

I have ideas for the immediate future of Mutual Understanding, like half a chapter's worth, but after that there's a hole of about three months before my next major plot point will take place. I've got to get through the trial and first semester at Hogwarts... There are a few scenes in there I've got in mind, but I'm trying to figure out how to skip, how much to skip, etc. I also have to re-read the beginning of book 5, decide how canon I want to go, how to deal with Umbridge, and try not to repeat Jo too much...

So...er...um...yeah.

Happy V Day! I posted Chapter 14 of Eight today just for you! Ironic, eh? And I have a new summary for it, too. Thank you to ravens secret stalker for pm-ing me with 3 different story summaries I might like to use. In the end I combined two of them. What do you think? Does it fit?

I have another plea for my loyal readers. I really, really want to post the next chapter of A Mutual Understanding, but just don't have the drive to do the work. I've still only got a third of it done. Please pm me or e-mail me or review that story and kick my bum, k? Give me some get up and go, I'm begging you. Just wanted to let anyone interested know I'm about a third of the way through chapter 14 of Eight. I've been doing a lot of reading lately, and it has my emotions in a bunch. As does real life. But that's not really different, now, is it? Hope you're all cheerful and full of snuggly fuzzle bunnies right now. I'll be happy if I get more than 3 hours of sleep tonight. Yes, you have to be pretty messed up to write the stuff I do. I don't deny it . . .

Well, not quite a month since my last update. But this one is a full 1,000 words longer than some of the others, so I felt justified in my A/N at the end begging for reviews. I've been so excited this morning!! People have been responding and reviewing, and it is totally making a horrendous weekend turn out well. I'll spare you the gory details of my real life, but I will let you know it is, at the moment, very much influenced by abuse, neglect, and all things violent. Blech. I'm not personally the victim this time, so that is a different twist. Anyway, I have plenty of angsty, vengeful, and generally horrid things to write about soon, so I'll say adieu!

Oh my word! Did it really take me more than a month to update? I'm so sorry!

If it's any consolation, part of that time was spent on the next chapter of A Mutual Understanding. I hope to get that finished over the holiday. I know it's not as well liked, but I really enjoy writing it. And so you know, the angst is only going to get worse . . . Will it get better? Mwah hah hah!

As always, RL continues to get in the way of my (preferable, at times) fantasy one. I do have a holiday for Christmas - 2 weeks. I must admit I've been greedy about reviews and was sort of waiting for 100 reviews on Chapter Ten before updating... I know, I know, I'm evil - as so many of you have told me after Chapter Eleven's cliffie!!

Anyway, reviews do help the hungry, hungry author!

I also absolutely love hearing everyone's questions about what's going to happen, as well as suggestions! It may seem weird, but A Mutual Understanding and Eight are the first stories I've written since grade school. I have been know to use ideas from readers, you know...

I also have another challenge for you. (And an answer to a burning question!) I've asked this one before, but the more ideas the better. Snape will be paying a visit to the Dursleys in Eight very soon (I think...this story writes itself more that the other one. Does that make sense?) I need fresh ideas for punishments!
