Wow...what a bone-chillingly creepy Snape. On some level, he seems to want to heal Harry, but he is more consistently pleased by power issues like his smugness at being the one Harry opens up to, or his sadistic enjoyment of taking Harry away from McGonagall. Harry is a thrilling puzzle for him on one hand, and on the other, he is one of the most crucial elements in Wizarding society, and you can tell that he has a very Slytherin contentment at his steady takeover of control of Harry’s life. It is unclear whether he recognizes that he is also taking advantage of the Wizarding world’s near-complete lack of info about child abuse. With the books and research he has done, he should be fully aware of how totally inappropriate and damaging it is to place a sexually abused teen male in a living situation with an isolated older man, not to mention a man who has been extremely cruel to him all his life. Snape even told the other teachers that he is sleeping in bed with Harry, and even after they know about the sexual abuse, he is able to make them believe that it is a healthy and supportive move. The narrative from Snape’s POV claims that he feels “sick” about his careful plan of getting undressed and into bed with Harry before restraining him from behind and telling him that he has the power not only to rape him anytime, but to invite his friends and teachers to watch; but despite feeling “sick” about it and clearly having doubts, he does it anyway, and like the masterful Slytherin he is, he turns it around so that Harry feels scared and guilty about fighting him.

The story is made even creepier by the blasé attitude Snape has, almost as if he really believes deep down that he is helping Harry; but then little clues will give away his true long-game of manipulative enjoyment of the game of coming to own Harry. For instance, in this last chapter he recognizes that Harry should be protesting the way Snape is systematically cutting him off from his support network (classic move for an abusive figure), and then he is kind of disappointed that he doesn’t get to exercise his power because Harry isn’t fighting it. With Harry’s little smile, I wonder if he understands Snape’s game and is playing his own hand as much as he can.

While Snape plays the “good guy” by refusing to have sex with Harry, his early dream and other clues (like getting undressed and not minding if Harry is taking a peek; or his lack of horror or concern for Harry after he wakes to find himself grinding his erection against Harry’s naked ass; or his enjoyment of Filch’s salacious casual banter about whether or not he is molesting Harry; or even the casual way he orders Harry to get naked in front of him before Harry knows him well but after Snape already knows about the abuse) demonstrate that he enjoys the idea of moving further with this messed-up fourteen-year-old kid who is, by his own description, “smaller than any first-year.” But through it all, the narration style makes it seem as if Snape is doing the right thing. I think that on some level, he probably does justify it to himself, but then his enjoyment of his power, and his cold analytical way of thinking of Harry as a puzzle to solve,

So yeah. Wow. This is a suuuuper dark and chilling fic, written in a disarmingly innocent style from Snape’s POV. The narration is so innocent, in fact, that it is unclear whether the author also (naively? pruriently?) supports Snape’s decisions or whether the author is purposefully using this POV to make it a horrifying portrait of a sexual abuser systematically grooming his victim. Either way, this is creepy and psychologically screwed-up on the level of some of Amanuensis’s stories and recs (and that is saying a LOT), although not as eloquent or error-free as those other stories. I’m guessing the author is not returning since it’s been almost 15 years, but I am so morbidly curious as to where this is going that I would definitely read if the writer does come back!

interesting story...seriously wtf was Hermione thinking with that "virginity charm"? You don't just do that! Seriously?! he's fine with Harry being "unloved and unwanted" and living in a cupboard, but now?! Now he has a problem with it?! So apparently neglect, being worked worse than a house elf/slave, living in a cupboard, starving, verbally abused & being smacked around is fine?! Fucking Dumbles, that bitch needs to have what Harry did to Snape...stupid McGonagall, seriously thinks 2 weeks will be enough, ugh! With the staff meeting after Snape told them Harry didn't trust them, I so badly wanted to smack and scream at them (well, not so much Sprout and Flitwick)...Dumbles & McGonagall: "Why doesn't he trust us?", Me: "Oh, I don't know, maybe because you two bitches left him with people who beat, starved, cut, and raped him! But hey, your guess is as good as mine!" Dumbasses! please, you can't just end it there, what about the Regina's Solution (btw excellent using "Spot" as her last name), if he's not a girl, (which is what I was thinking when I started reading this) why is he taking it? Tell me, tell me, tell me!

Interesting fic, like the intensity and the interplay between Poppy, Snape and McGonnagal but especially the Harry and Snape interactions.

This is good but you should keep your chapters slightly longer. I am not critisizing I would probably have done the same in your situation. Nevermind that I would not have the ambition to keep going.

Almost eleven years later heck please post something! Please I love this story even if you just posted a short explanation for the potion consumption anything I beg of you!
