"And so. It begins."

And ends, apparently.

It hasn't begun in nearly 11 years
Guest chapter 2 . 9/15/2019
I'm not signing in because I feel it's kind of embarrassing. I'm not as badly abused as Harry and a lot of other kids out there. It's mostly screaming and the constant pressure heaped on me. My mom blames me for every small thing and never accepts the blame herself. She has hit me around with a shoe stick (looks sort of like a cane) and it was only a few times, mostly when I was a child. She chased me around the house and I remember my fear and anger. I remember coming back from school one day and I think I got a bad grade. But dammit it was just elementary school mom. I was just a child.

She told me to get inside the house and she'll show me what she was going to do to me. I was crying softly in the car and refused to get out. But I eventually had to and again she hurt me. But still at times she can be awesome and hilarious. It's like my anger is forgotten by the time she is nice and caring again. Bit still now that I am older everday I am feeling more drained and depressed. I have always contemplated suicide since seventh grade and everyday I feel like my parents are making it worse for me. And soon I'll be away in college and I worry about my little sister and how she will face the brunt of my mom's awful insults, constant comparing, and displeasure.

whitehound chapter 3 . 4/6/2015
It's very dramatic, but from a purely practical point of view the idea of just randomly finding a child who could be anywhere in a city which is over forty miles across doesn't really work, and it made it hard for me to do the "suspension of disbelief" thing. You need to have them use some kind of spell to narrow it down, at least to an area a couple of miles wide, so that it would be feasible that Remus's advanced, semi-canine senses could sniff Harry out.

[Also - and I don't expect anyone to know this who hasn't spent a lot of time analysing the London overground train maps - the fact that Little Whinging is in Surrey yet you can get to it from Diagon Alley via Paddington Station means it has to be right next to Heathrow Airport, so in fact they *could* have take Harry out of the country and got back in four hours.]
whitehound chapter 2 . 4/6/2015
Of course there are many poor kids who are treated like this - only last year there was a terrible, tragic case of a little boy who was deliberately starved by his mother and then died after his stepfather hit him on the head. And this scenario makes for a very dramatic story - but of course it's very AU. In the books Harry suffered very little physical (as opposed to emotional) abuse and was never beaten, his cupboard was the size of a small room (Harry, Vernon and a proper bed all fit into it at the same time), he wasn't locked into it (when he was sent to bed without supper he raided the kitchen overnight), except for a few occasions when he was being punished he ate the same meals as the Dursleys, he was given chores to do only rarely (and Dudley also was given some chores) and he preferred being with the Dursleys to having to look at pictures of cats.

Hi,
I love this story, but I must admit it is cruel. Now surely child abuse is a cruel thing and I believe that you have managed to, sadly, portray it quite realistically. But in this chapter, you also broke a man. Lily was always described as nothing, if not kind. What she does to Snape however is the opposite of kind. Sure she apologizes and sure, there is no good way to deal with the situation, but to refuse the father of her child, her best friend, to take any part in the childs life... What that must have done to Snape, who more than anything wished for a family and acceptance, not even giving him the chance to hate her for it... Thats truly cruel and I must admit that it doesn't really suit the Lily Evans described in Harry Potter.

Child of Dreams chapter 2 . 6/12/2012
Hmmm, a Patronus that takes the form of a silver wolf,

talks in a hoarse voice,

and belongs to someone on Dumbledore's side...

Couldn't possibly be Remus Lupin, now could it?

(grins impishly)
