![]() Author has written 3 stories for Naruto, Power Rangers, and Harry Potter. I am Tenstar, fear my power! My avatar is a picture of my original character in my Naruto stories, Wareta Kai. The art was done by my brother (Momotaro Kyo). More pictures of various original characters in my Naruto fics are posted on my DeviantArt account, also under the name Tenstar12 (link should be at the bottom of the profile). So, out of college and stuff. Got my Bachelors and I am totally putting it to excellent use at the moment... sitting around the house doing next to nothing... yeah... job hunting fail and what not... Anyway, I have had relatively little time for writing with all the random stuff going on in real life, which is illustrated by the three year wait before I posted the final chapter of Rebuilding the Past, but I always have ideas bouncing around in my head. I currently have 20 pages of ideas for the third installment of Kai's story in a Word document, I just have to transform that into a usable outline for the story and get to writing. On top of that, I have two other stories that I've started writing in different fandoms. I am tentatively planning on posting all three of them at once and working on them as my muse directs in the hope of keeping myself from burning out like I did on RtP... a lot... List of Fanfiction Projects, in no particular order: 1. Still unnamed 3rd fic for Kai's story 2. Magi Ranger: A Harry Potter Power Rangers Crossover that has been bouncing around in my head. 3. An unnamed fanfiction of mysterious subject matter 4. Re-write/edit of What the Future Holds (hopefully to make it less cringe-worthy for myself and to remove unnecessary AN's) 5. Re-write/edit of Rebuilding the Past (mostly the earlier chapters and removal of AN's throughout) 6. I also have some basic ideas for two more Naruto Fics, both unnamed or even really fleshed out too much, but they're there all the same. Ranting no Jutsu: I will be adding rant topics to this section as I think of them. None of them are guaranteed to stay on one topic, and I may in fact bounce around several of them as I intend to write as close to stream of consciousness as I can. This is mostly for giggles. And I know there may be some self-contradiction and unfinished thoughts in these as well, so no need to inform me. Also, please note that these are my opinions and I have no intent for people to take them seriously and try to start something over it. I apologize in advance for anyone I offend. 4/10/16 My first rant is inspired by the numerous Harry Potter Fanfics I have read. More than once in my time reading, I have come across examples of intimate acts being performed by underage individuals. And I'm not talking just a year or two underage here, I'm talking stories where it is written as a cultural norm for eleven and twelve year-olds to be getting it on with each other. Let's ignore for a moment the physical unlikelihood of children that young even having working equipment and focus on the fact that they are CHILDREN! If someone wants to write stories about everyone banging everyone else, then at least make them old enough to where my pedo-meter isn't exploding from overload. I have stopped reading otherwise wonderfully promising stories for things like this. 4/10/16 continued On a lighter note and also in Harry Potter, what is up with authors changing Harry's name? I know the you-just-broke-free-from-your-controlling-relatives Diagon Alley trip is a fairly common fannon convention, along with the accompanying Gringotts visit and will reading or whatever, but why is it that when Harry sees any legal documents made by his parents or comes into any kind of inheritance, there is at least a 50% chance of his name being more than just Harry? His name is Harry James Potter, not Harold, Harrison, or Hadrian or some other name-like creation that might be able to be shortened to Harry in a bad light and with a God that favors you. I understand that in fanfiction, changing things is the name of the game, but for some reason a small detail that only rarely pops up in most stories, as even with a different "full" first name he still goes by Harry the vast majority of the time, really makes me irritated. 5/23/16 This one is rather minor really, but it still manages to bug me. I like to read crossovers whenever I find one that interests me. One thing that I can't stand though is when an author sets up a crossover and has things going well and then all of a sudden BAM! we are hit with the appearance of another character from their "universe" that also happened to cross into this same dimension. The example that really got to me was a Harry Potter / Twilight crossover wherein the author wrote that the gateway that brought Harry there was closed and nobody could even dream of following (not in so many words but that was the gist of it) and then about halfway through what had been written Hermione shows up out of the blue. I believe this was also a betrayal fic wherein Hermione was one of the guilty parties and Harry just kinda shrugs and moves on, seamlessly blending her into the life he's built without complaint. I guess the big problem I have with these kind of situations is that such a large change in the plot of a story completely throws the entire feel of it off. Whether these types of situations are planned out by the author from the beginning and poorly executed (saying "this can never happen" and then later on it does. Perhaps they're shooting for a "what a twist!" type thing... meh...) or if something "inspires" them to change the direction of their story and they don't think more into it beyond making it happen regardless of continuity issues, I cannot say, but I do know that it ruins a lot of otherwise interesting stories for me. 6/19/16 I was reminiscing over fanfictions I have read in the past when I remembered a particular Harry Potter fic. This one was a Slytherin Harry story wherein, I believe, Harry was the son of Voldemort (I don't think the mother was listed) and the Potters were not only alive, though in hiding, they were also secretly followers of Voldemort and posed as Harry's parents to protect him from Dumbledore. The whole thing with Voldemort killing them was all staged to throw Dumbledore off Harry's scent as the son of the dark lord. Needless to say, Harry is rather dark in this story. It plays out much like other Slytherin Harry stories where he has a dark personality, but there were a few things that stood out rather strongly. Firstly being the instant friendship between Harry and Draco. I think that it was explained off as Lucius all but ordering Draco to look out for the son of the Dark Lord so it worked. The second one, and one that really didn't sit well with me, involved Hermione. Fairly early in the story, Hermione randomly discovers that she was adopted. Not only was she adopted, but she is a pureblood witch on top of that. And further still, she is randomly the daughter of Bellatrix Lestrange. She immediately adopts her birth name of Gabrielle Lestrange and somehow gets instantly resorted from Gryffindor to Slytherin. On top of this, she takes on a rather extreme personality change as well, resembling many of the fannon representations of Bellatrix in that she becomes rather insane and cruel. As I recall, there had been some animosity between Harry (who may have actually had a different name too, but I don't particularly remember) and Hermione/Gabrielle while she was in Gryffindor, which made her immediate inclusion in his inner circle of friends (which had only held Draco at that point) a bit harder for me to take. The coup de grace for me was when the story reached the end of the first year. Harry, Draco, and Gabrielle (Hermione) somehow ended up going through the trials to reach the Mirror of Erised. It all seemed very familiar as I read it, and not just in the way that I had read the same stuff rewritten by many authors in different stories. The reason for the familiarity became apparent when I came across the word "fDracot." After puzzling over it and using context clues, I realized that the word was supposed to be "front" only the "ron" in the middle had been replaced with "Draco." Essentially, the author had acquired a word for word copy of the trials from Sorcerer's Stone and simply used a find and replace function to switch out "Hermione" for "Gabrielle" and "Ron" for "Draco," which resulted in the mixed word that tipped me off. Yeah, I stopped reading at that point. If the author couldn't be bothered to write their own version of those events, they shouldn't have written a fanfiction at all. I know its tedious, especially after writing What the Future Holds which was essentially a First Season Naruto rehash with my OC, but you've gotta go through the effort. If you don't wanna do it, gloss over it in a short paragraph and call it laziness or being excited to get to your own stuff. Relevant Links: |
