It takes a while for the magnitude of Hiccup's injury to catch up with him. When it does, Gobber has been waiting there to help all along.

Stoick felt an overwhelming need to protect his calamity-prone son. But he knew he couldn't be there for Hiccup all the time. His solution made a lot of people happy, but no one ever knew his real motive.

And, like five years ago, Toothless uses the tail to leave Berk - but this time, it's not because of a helmet. He comes back late, but Hiccup can't hold a grudge against such a pleasant surprise.

This is in Toothless's point of view, and follows what happened after the defeat of the Red Death and before Hiccup wakes up in his house, as Toothless waits for him. The official story was that Spencer Reid happened into a profiling lecture at Caltech University. That he'd seen Jason Gideon give a lecture and asked so many questions that Gideon had finally given him a business card and told him to call. That the beginning had been innocent, curious, and perfectly Reid-like. The official story was not even close to true.

I've heard a lot of rumors of what happened to Danny's glasses, so here is my take on it. My first ever fanfic!
