The sequel to "the Plight of the Dwarves". In this episode, Thorin and company are finding life in Lake-town to be hard. The men of Lake-town are not welcoming and the company of Dwarves have many dangers to face.

Fíli and Kíli get in a fight, and Fíli stomps off on his own... but when he doesn't return, it's up to Kíli to find him. But something has happened to Fíli, and he no longer seems to be the brother Kíli knows. No slash.

Kíli felt cold as the waves rushed over his body - The familiar feeling of despair returned to Fíli, only moments after it had vanished. It sunk into his bones, but it was worse this time. This was the kind of despair that was shattering, the kind that could break a heart as strong as Fíli's.

The BoFA is upon them. Kili and Fili aren't sure they're heading down the right path, but they know they'll do what they need to in order to protect Thorin and the newly reclaimed Erebor. They were both very small the first time they heard about hobbits. Fili, of course, saw it as an opportunity for mischief. So when his little brother asked him, face alight with curiosity, what a hobbit was, there was absolutely no hesitation.

Kili and Fili decide to leave the safety of their party and explore the village of Bree. Fili is abducted and held for ransom-a treasure that doesn't exist. Hurt!brothers, no Durincest, and some original male OC bad boys. There are allusions to non-con behavior in chapter 5 and beyond, but nothing explicit.

Fili felt it before he saw it. Felt the breath being crushed out of him, like an iron bar in the chest. Except there was no release. It was constant, unrelenting. He felt like a stone sinking in a vast ocean. Insignificant, but still there. Still struggling. Fili had never imagined leaving his brother. Not once.

A sudden roar of yelling. Something being thrown and shattering. The slam of a door so loud a picture fell from the wall. Through the darkness, in a barreling sprint, came Kili. Eyes as wide as saucers, shouts echoing like a dragon's roar behind him.

"The last thing he saw was Kili's hand reach for him before he was suffocated by darkness." After the Battle of Five Armies, Fili and Kili are assumed to be dead... but are they?

Elrond's sons discover their Dwarven "brothers-in-arms." Rivendell will never be the same.
