This was such a joy to read! It was sweet and quick and flawless and perfect! I love how Thorin hugs them near the end and its clear how much Kili and Fili mean to him. This was really cute and I loved rvery moment of it.

That was just great! I really wish the pony/river scene had been in the movie, but maybe the produces thought that the barrel ride and Laketown in DOS would be enough water for the trilogy. I love the way you described Thorin, how he is mad at them (just like in the film, "You think a night raid by orcs is a joke?!") but loves them, too, and I think his sometimes harsh way is just his way of hiding jis real emotions when it comes to his nephews.

Did this really happen in the book? And did the story you wrote really similar to what happened?

Seven months later and I'm still angry PJ left this scene out of the film! I mean, if he's going to stretch the book out into three films he could've at least given us this scene with the possibility of gratuitous Durin whump and feels that's actually IN the book! OK, rant over...

Loved this! Your characterisation of Thorin is once again perfect. I could just hear his low grumble in my ears the whole time. ("Stupid idiot nephews *grunt, grumble* Absolutely no common sense *grumble, groan* Making me go grey *grumble*) But I think it's exactly right that he would be so terrified of losing them and so relieved at having them safe that his stormy facade would crack. So glad there was a family group hug at the end!

"Selfish bastard thinks he can leave me here alone, does he? He's got another thing coming to him. And with that he brought his fist down as hard as he could over his brother's heart." - favourite bit! I could just picture Fili doing that/saying that. But I'm not going to talk about the foreshadowing or darker implications of 'together or not at all' because my heart can't take it!

Oh...so, so, so good. When I reread The Hobbit after watching the movie, that was the line I picked up on. I was like, of course Fili and Kili would be the ones to almost drown. I loved the part where Fili hots Kili. (And what he was thinking.) I hope more like this one are on the way.

Humorous, adventurous, and even bittersweet, since it really is loyalty that does in the line of Durin in the end. Thanks for a great read.
