A bit about me (if you're interested): I am a registered nurse who likes to write and read fanfictions on my days off. English is not my first language but I believe I have operational command of the language though with occasional inaccuracies. I write fanfictions as a way of relieving stress and at the same time practicing my English. Right now I am busy with various examinations and a side project (a short story written in my primary language) and of course, saving lives in the hospital where I work. My favorite color is blue (not that it matters). My favorite food is a local delicacy in the Philippines called kare-kare (similar to beef curry). My main project right now is Welcome Home. I started the story waaaaay back 2009 but only had the guts to publish it around 2014(?). It's on-going, and will probably continue for quite a long time. It's gonna be a long story, that's for sure. I am mainly into Naruto and my favorite pairing is NejiTen. Also NaruHina and SaiIno. ShikaIno works too, along with ShikaTem. For those of you who have read Welcome Home and wonder why I share the same name with my OC, first off let me tell you that it's not about her being mary sue, or me with some self-insert thing--no. The fact is, when I was first drafting an old fanfic and I needed a name for my OC, a friend suggested the name Kira. But I misheard and wrote Akira instead. The name stuck and when a Japanese friend read my story, he said: "Wow, you and Akira are so much alike. I think I'll call you Akira from now on" (because he can't pronounce my real name properly). So there. About Welcome Home As I mentioned earlier, Welcome Home is my main project as of the moment and I'm intent on finishing it, as it will be my first "serious" fic. I conceptualized the story some time around 2008-2009 when I was still a noob in writing fanfictions. The original story was designed to be a one-shot, with Akira coming back to Konoha from a mysterious trip. All her friends welcome her back, and towards the end of the story, she reunites with Neji who murmurs "Welcome home", hence the title. The story was soon buried beneath the rubble of all my high school artifacts until one day, I found it between the pages of my old science book. That was around 2012--and I was still very much a noob as I was in 2008 in spite of being in my first year of college (we start college early in my country. I think I was sixteen/seventeen when I enrolled)--and I thought it had potential. So I started writing again. However college life caught up with me and I lost interest in the story of Akira and Neji and Tenten until I finished my nursing degree. One day during my review classes, I suddenly had an idea about a girl and her wolf trying to find their home. That's when Welcome Home began to take its present form, and I got back to writing Akira again. When I first designed Akira, I honestly did not think about it thoroughly. I just knew that I wanted a character who's not all sunshine, one who can easily pass off as a side character. In fact, I often wondered if any of the Naruto side characters have back stories. So I decided to write a side character, give her a bit of something while still keeping the spotlight on Naruto. However as I wrote the story, Akira slowly became the main character. I tried changing it, keeping the timeline close to the original series' but I failed. I also realized a bit too late that I made Akira a borderline Mary Sue--what with her being a jinchuriki, the wolves and the five chakra natures. To make the long story short, I wrote Akira with just my gut feeling, with no concrete plans of character development. And I realized my mistake too late. I'm sure some of my readers have noticed it too. But then I realized that I could still work the story out as I originally planned and so I continued writing, slashing and revising some parts. I gave Akira her fair share of flaws: temperament, trust issues, vulnerability, insecurities, sub-par combat skills and other issues that I have yet to explore in the next chapters. I know I made her cliche-ish by giving her wolves, making her a jinchuriki and having her fall in love with a main character and for that I'm sorry. As a writer I know I should've researched more, planned the story more and basically did more before I published the fanfic. I ask for your understanding. Please charge it to my inexperience. Now, Welcome Home has spanned 30 chapters and counting. As I write this, a new chapter is in the works and I promise to continuously improve, with your constructive criticisms of course. To all my readers, both old and new, thank you for your giving Akira and this story a chance. I will do my best to write better. And for those who have stumbled upon this fic and my other stories, thank you. I make it my personal mission to leave a review to fanfictions that I read, as much as I can. Being a fanfic writer myself, I know how it feels to receive a review (positive or not) and how it affects the author's writing. I hope other readers and writers do the same and let's all spread good vibes! Yay! Feel free to chuck me a PM or a review, I always respond. :p Cheers! |
