Author has written 9 stories for Dragon Ball Z, Hunter X Hunter, and My Hero Academia/僕のヒーローアカデミア. Hello all! I would like to take some time to thank you for spending some time getting to know me on my profile! This profile is a tool to all of you readers and fellow authors in order to learn a little more about me as a writer, reader, and overall person. I believe that it is vital to get to know the person behind the story so that you can see how a person writes and know what to expect when they write. This also helps when they give you feedback on your own work. As for my profile, this is something that I spent a significant amount of time revising. If you visited my profile in the past, you will notice that this one is completely different from my previous profile. My other profile was hard to follow and all over the place. I have done a better job at organizing my profile this time around. As you can see, I have broken my profile into separate sections. I've also put a table of contents so that if there is one part of the profile that you want to see, you can just skip right to it rather than going through the whole thing. I highly encourage you to read the whole thing at some point, but I also understand those people who just want to figure out what I’m writing and couldn’t care less about my favorite characters or what I do in my free time. So here you go! My profile in all of its refurbished glory! Enjoy! Table of Contents: I. Planned Stories: In this section you can find all of the stories that I plan to write for this website. II. About Me: This is the section where you can find out all about who I am as a person as well as what my interests and hobbies are besides fan fiction. III. Me as A Writer: This section contains all of the details about my writing style as well as information on my writing policies. IV. Me as A Reader: This section is about what stories I like to read split into fandoms. V. Review Policy: This section contains my policies on reviews in detail. VI. Favorite Characters by Fandom: This section is a ranked list my favorite characters starting with my favorite with brief explanations on why they are where they are in my list. VII. Least Favorite Characters by Fandom This section is a ranked list of my least favorite characters staring with least favorite with brief explanations on why they are where they are in my list VIII. Relationships by Fandom: This is the section where I go into which relationships I prefer to read and write about. This includes both romantic and platonic relationships. I. Planned Stories I decided to put this section first as this is the section that the vast majority of people that read my profile will be most interested in. Every story in this section will eventually make it to the fanfiction.net website, even if it takes years. This section is also organized by what stories I am currently writing from first to last, although keep in mind that any one-shots posted lower may be published before I finish one of my multi-chapter stories just because they are quicker to write. I try my best post progress markers on how far I’m at in certain chapters as well, so if you’re following one of my multi-chapter stories, check this section if you’re curious on my progress in the next chapter. I would like to take this time to once again thank you for reading my profile and trying to learn more about me. As I mentioned on my introduction, I feel it is important that you know a little about where I get my inspiration from as well as where my interests lie and how I am as a person. This way, you can see why I write certain stories and characters the way I do. So here we go! My name is PJ and I am a 25 year old male from the United States born on February 21st. I am from the North end of the Midwest region where I was born and raised, and it is here where I still currently reside. I love it here, as I am naturally warm-blooded, meaning the cold doesn’t really affect me much, so I can handle the harsh winters of my home region. In fact, Winter is my favorite season, and I love the snow almost to a fault (I can’t get enough of the white stuff). As far as family, I have two parents that I love, and an older brother that I admire. You guys have probably noticed from my written stories and favorited stories that I love the Gohan/Goten brotherly love dynamic. Well, lets just say that my brother is the one who inspired this passion within me. There are many people who complain about their siblings, but that is not the case here. He honestly is probably the one person on this planet that I cherish above everyone else. He is an awe-inspiring person and an incredible friend, someone that I strive my hardest to be like. I also have some incredible friendships that I have built over the years. Far and away the most prominent one though is with my best friend. She and I grew up together (literally as we only live two doors away from each other) and formed an unbreakable bond. She is the glue that holds my life together, and I don’t know what I would do if she wasn’t a part of it. She is also a great writer (better than I am), and she is the one who has inspired me to start writing stories in general. She beta-reads all of my chapters in the “Gohan’s Legacy” series, and I have even persuaded her to start writing her own work. She is in the process of writing the “Tribute to Chao” story I referred to in my previous section. It is a story mainly composed of OC’s but don’t let that deter you from reading it once it’s posted, as the story is really unique and interesting. She is also writing a Tales of Symphonia story that I think many people in that fandom would like called “The War After.” I highly encourage you to check out her profile when you get the opportunity to learn more about her. The Profile name is silverstardust17. As an occupation, I am currently a staff pharmacist at a regional chain pharmacy in my home state. This is actually my first job out of pharmacy school, and so far, it is going alright. The upper management seems to be a bit overbearing, and the computer system they use is prehistoric; however, the people I work with and the awesome patients that come in more than make up for the downsides. I also love the region that I moved to, even if it is a bit far from the rest of my family. As far as a career path, my eventual goal is to become either a cardiology, critical care, or pediatric specialist pharmacist at a major medical center in the northern part of my state. In order to do that though, I will need one year of general residency, and then a second year of residency with a more directed focus on the specialty area I decide to choose. These residencies are generally very competitive and intense, with residents consistently working up to 80 hours per week (usually 12 days on, 2 days off). However, the these subjects are my major passions in pharmacy, and this would be the career path that I am looking to go into. If this doesn’t pan out though, I would be more than happy to be a staff pharmacist at a hospital, hopefully in an ICU setting. As far as other passions go, I have a deep rooted passion for football (the American version). I played defensive line for seven years throughout my middle school and high school years, and I still follow the sport very closely today. Most years I am in multiple fantasy football leagues for the NFL (I won the championship in one league this year, was runner up in another!) and I also keep a close eye on college football as well in order to scout who would be good coming into the NFL. If there is one sport that I can really never get tired of watching, it would be football. I also have a huge passion for tennis. I started playing tennis in high school, and instantly fell in love with the sport. I have been hooked ever since. I usually play with my brother whenever I can during the summer, and over the years, I have gotten pretty good at the sport. I also started watching the major tennis tournaments that happen at certain times of the year, and I find entertainment from watching other good players play. I watch not only for the fun of it, but also to learn form the best in the business, trying to incorporate some of their strategies and techniques into my own game. Back when I was a little younger, I used to be very into video games, particularly PS2 and Gamecube games. While I hardly play video games anymore, there are a few choice ones that are still near and dear to my heart. The two that I still play the most, and the only two that I will most likely write stories for, are Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Tales of Symphonia. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is the Gamecube version of the dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2, and this game was the bomb back when I was in my early to mid teens; it was so much fun to play. However, the best part of that game was the mini-game where you had to take care of these cute little creatures called chao. Silverstardust17 and I would play this part of the game literally hours at a time to raise these little creatures and level them up. I remember waking up early in the morning just so I could improve upon my chao for the most amount of time possible. We spent so much time in Chao World that we eventually came up with different personalities for our chao, a hierarchy of power for each world (we did this on multiple memory cards, and each Chao World was a different country), and even came up with imaginary adventures for these small creatures to go on. These adventures became so complex and in depth that we actually decided to write a fan fiction on these adventures: this is what our “Tribute to Chao” stories will be all about. Tales of Symphonia was another game I became completely enthralled with. This was mainly because this was an RPG game that I could play alongside my brother rather than just watching him play. We beat this game multiple times, and I became so engrossed in it that I eventually invited silverstardust to start playing too. Once she got addicted to the game, we started doing what we do best: come up with stories for all of the characters. We developed quite a side story for the main characters, and this is probably something that will turn into yet another story on this website eventually. There is nothing set in stone yet, but I will update my profile with the new story in my “Planned Stories” section with a summery if one does start to formulate in my mind. Movies are something that, while I enjoy watching them, I’m not really that crazy about. Silverstardust17 would definitely vouch for that statement, especially since her passion for movies is much greater than mine. I really only have a select few movies that I actually own. I really like the older Adam Sandler classics, which include “Waterboy,” “The Longest Yard,” “Big Daddy,” and what I call the ‘Holy Trinity of Comedies:’ “Billy Madison,” “Happy Gilmore,” and “Mr. Deeds.” I also am a huge Star Wars fan, which was passed down to me by my dad. My favorite movie though is without a doubt “Big Hero 6.” I absolutely fell in love with the movie after I saw that is had a huge brotherly relationship component to it. I actually found out about it from reading a story about it on this site. Once I read it, I found that I needed to watch it. I bought the movie and watched it 6 times the first week I bought it. It has quickly become one of my biggest passions as far as fanfiction stories go. As you saw above, I already have an idea in progress for it, although I admit it isn’t that far along as of yet. One of my biggest passions though has to be music. In fact, I am notorious among my group of friends for analyzing bands and creating lists for my favorite bands and songs of all time. I have a whole point system that I use to create a list of my favorite bands, including a tiering system based off of how many points a band earns. This is also heavily based off of my “Top 50 Songs List” that I update quite often, with certain bands earning more points based on not only how many songs they have in this list, but where they fall in the list as well. I also give bonuses for sheer quantity of good songs that a band would have. In order to do all of this though, I needed to go through my whole iTunes library and rate every song, something that took me forever to do. My friends would go as far as to say that this is a bit excessive, but to me, it was necessary. If anyone is interested, I can send anyone my list of favorite bands and my “Top 50 Songs List.” You might like what you hear! My passion for music inspires a lot of my writing. I’m always listening to something whilst I write, and some of my best chapters are ones that I wrote while listening to a particular song that really fit the mood of the chapter. Many of the songs that I listen to also tell a story, or speak to me in a certain way. At some point I am going to write a few songfics about these songs. I feel like I have a pretty broad taste of music, though not many people would agree with me on this point because the only music that really annoys me is unfortunately the music that is most popular in the US: Modern Pop and Country. To me, most of the songs from these genres of music these days seem to lack true musical depth, and many of the singers aren’t really good singers, using technology to make themselves sound better; in other words, these genres seem really fake nowadays. Now I know that this is not the case for a lot of artists in these genres, but this is the impression that I get from the music that most of my friends listen too and the few songs I’ve heard on the radio, so I haven’t exactly been encouraged to check out more music from these genres. However, if anyone has a suggestion to a good, deep, and most importantly, real pop or country song, I am open to suggestions. I always want to broaden my musical background. However, my main interest when it comes to music is good ol’ rock, particularly hard and indy rock. I love songs that heavily utilize the guitar; give me a song with an amazing guitar part and I will most likely love it. My favorite bands include the likes of DragonForce, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Imagine Dragons, the Foo Fighters, Seether, and Coldplay, with my favorite band being a band named Incubus. Now if you want an example of a band that is completely real and has tons of musical depth, Incubus fits that bill completely. I highly encourage anyone who likes alternative rock to check them out if you haven’t already. In fact, I even like to write my own music! Silverstardust17 and I have come up with many of our own characters over the years, and one of my favorites is a guy we call “Some Opera Man.” He is an arrogant guy who thinks he’s the best, but he can do nothing but sing: he can’t talk normally, and he literally sings everything. It is with this character that I have made multiple songs of my own that are based off of his adventures. These songs are meant to be comical, as he himself is sort of a ‘character,’ but the music from it is all original and created using an app on my iPad, and I do all of the singing for it myself. I tend to think that these songs are the best of both of my creative talents, both being able to come up with stories and being able to write my own music, and although they may be a bit silly in their lyrics, I take a lot of pride in these songs and Some Opera Man. Another one of my main passions is reading. My favorite book series is Harry Potter, and I have read through that entire series a good three times. I love the magical universe that J. K. Rowling created, however, that doesn't mean I don't have criticisms about it. This is a fandom that I have been taking a huge interest in as of late. There are many things that I hadn't realized about this series that I am interested in writing about, including all of the politics behind the civil wars and some of Dumbledore's questionable decisions. This is a fandom that I most definitely want to be contributing to in the near future as I have a few ideas on some good stories. I may even write a crossover fic involving Gohan. I have read some good crossovers in the past regarding this, and that may be something I consider writing in the future. However, without a doubt my strongest passion of all is Dragonball Z. I just love that series more than anything else. I grew up watching the anime series in elementary school, and I can remember clearly just rushing home from school in order to make it home for the 4 o’ clock showing on Toonami (Cartoon Network for those of you who don’t know). It was the perfect combination of fighting and drama. Then, in middle school, I found out that my school library had the manga series of Dragonball, so I started reading that and fell in love with the prequel to Dragonball Z. After reading through the manga of both series enough times, I learned everything there is to know about the Dragonball world, and I suddenly realized that I was disappointed that it was over. I also found some aspects of the storyline that I definitely would have changed myself. Looking back a little bit, this is most likely where my passion for writing for this series came from, but at the time, I didn’t have the means, nor the writing skills to actually start writing my ideas. It’s been around 6 years now since I found the fanfiction.net website. I actually found it by accident when google searching for Gohan fan art. There was a link to a community called “Gohan Fics” and I ended up being curious enough to click on it. It instantly took me to the community, I saw all of these stories that were about AUs on Dragonball Z involving Gohan, and I instantly fell in love with the site. It was a whole website dedicated to people writing stories about their favorite series, something I never even knew existed. After that, I knew I had to start writing. And write I did. I have also realized as of late that Dragonball Z was just my gateway into the world of Japanese anime. Recently, I have been getting into many other anime series as well. The main ones are Hunter x Hunter (both versions) and Fullmetal Alchemist (both versions). I have also started reading and watching My Hero Academia along with Bleach, both which have caught my interest. I would expect that these will be eventual fandoms for future fanfiction stories. That’s about all I have to say about myself at this point in time. If I think of anything else that may be pertinent for me to put on here, I’ll update my profile and notify you guys. III. Me as a Writer So, now we’re getting into the good and juicy details about me as a writer. In this section, you will find out all that you will want to know about how I write as well as some of my policies when it comes to my writing. I’m going to start by giving you a little background on how I developed into the writer I am today, as this will do a very good job in explaining the majority of my writing style and why I write the way that I do. My writing style has changed drastically over time. Back in my pre-collegiate days, I was not a good writer at all. English was far and away my worst subject in school, as I was much more inclined to the maths and sciences. Because of this, I avoided writing like the plague, and always dreaded anything that had to do with writing. Most times I would spend hours upon hours on end just trying to write a simple three page essay for my English classes, and would usually not be able to finish without some sort of help from my mother. Even then, the best grade I ever received on an essay in high school was an 85%. I carried over this dread of writing to college. I hated writing in college, and I literally groaned when I learned that one of my pre-requisites for pharmacy school was a writing class. However, this writing class actually changed my whole outlook on writing. The thing about this class was that we had to write a three page paper on a certain topic for every single class period… and this class met three times a week. I got so used to writing by just sheer quantity that by the end of that class, I had no problem writing the 25 page paper that we had to turn in for the final. I ended up getting an A in that class too. The thing I realized from that class was that it wasn’t writing in general that I despised in high school, it was the type of writing. Believe it or not, the only type of major writing (multi-page papers and essays) that I did up to that point were based off of analyzing literature. I didn’t mind reading the books that we read, but when it came to finding all of the hidden meanings and symbolism that all of my teachers wanted me to analyze in those papers, I wasn’t good at that at all. I could never find out those on my own. However, when it comes to research and creative writing, I don’t really have much trouble with those at all. The point of telling you all this story is this: my writing style is mostly analytical. In my stories, you won’t be seeing me use tons of literary devices. I will try my best to add in what I can, but it is definitely not my strength. Instead, my writing style is more descriptive, and I will more than likely explain every little detail in a character and why they think the way that they do, either directly or indirectly. I am trying to play a little bit with my writing style to make it more dramatic by leaving out certain details or leaving scenes open to reader interpretation, but this is a new concept to me when it comes to writing; it also goes against the scholarly writing style that I have been learning wherein I need to explain every little detail to make my case, so this is something that is very difficult for me. If something seems a little too analytical, this is the main reason why, and realize that I am trying my best to change that in my fan fiction stories. However, I’m also not going to try and force anything either. One writing device that I will use however is the device of syntax, or sentence structure and wording. When I write, I think very carefully about how I word certain phrases and take into consideration the nouns that I use to describe a character. When you read one of my stories, you will need to pay close attention to the way things are worded and which nouns are used because I usually have a subtle, but important reason for choosing that particular word. Here’s an example of what I mean with my phrasing. In a Dragonball Z story, when I describe someone powering up, the adverb that I use to describe someone’s power will determine not only what extent the person is leveling up, but if they are actually going to another of level completely (base to super saiyan, or super saiyan to SSJ2 for example). When I describe Gohan’s ki as rising exponentially, that means that he’s actually jumping to the next level vs his ki rising steadily, showing that he’s just powering up more within that transformation. My selective noun choice is a bit more complex. This is an example of what I mean by selective noun choice. In Dragonball Z, you have two versions of androids: the Mirai (future) Timeline’s and the Present Timeline’s. I refer to the Mirai Timeline’s androids 17 and 18 by naming them with numeral numbers (17 and 18). However, you will see me refer to the Present Timeline’s Androids Seventeen and Eighteen by actually spelling out their names (Seventeen and Eighteen). Normally these are interchangeable, but there is a reason why I actually spell out the names of the Present Timeline’s but not the Mirai Timeline’s. In the Mirai Timeline, the androids act with little to no human sympathy, showing no regards to human life at all. I would argue that even though they destroyed their creator, they still act more like machines that have been programmed to take out all life on Earth, despite what they might say otherwise; therefore, I name them like you would name a machine: by giving it a number. However, in the Present Timeline, the androids are different. While they fight the Z-fighters in the beginning, they don’t kill them, and in fact really don’t try to kill anyone throughout their adventures in trying to find Goku. Unlike their future counterparts, they actually seem to have a normal human regard for life, with the only reason for killing Goku being that it was programmed into them. I would argue that these androids are more human; therefore, I name them as you would name a human: actually giving them a name. While the name itself is still a number, it is spelled out like you would normally spell a human name, not just with numerals. These examples show what I mean by using syntax to my advantage. As you can see, I really do put a lot of thought into how I word my sentences and what words I use to describe my characters. If you notice a word that is interchangeable like “dad” and “father” or “17” and “Seventeen,” but see me consistently using one word over the other, I most likely have a very good reason behind it. There are plenty more examples of this in my already published writing, and this will be a huge part of my future writing as well. There will be times where I will use my wording alone to say a lot about a character’s relationship with another character, or what kind of person they are. Keep this is mind as you read any of my stories. You also have probably noticed that I tend to write long chapters for my stories. When I write, I usually have so much that I want to put in a chapter that I feel like it isn’t complete until I hit the 8,000 word mark. A lot of the time I also underestimate how many words I’m going to use to write the ideas that I have for a chapter. I sometimes get so detailed that I end up going 5,000 words over what I originally thought I’d write for that chapter. I also like longer, more detailed stories, believing that a great story is told gradually over a longer period of time in order to fit in everything that is needed to tell it. The vast majority of stories that I write will be well over 100,000 words in length, most of them significantly more. Of course there will be exceptions, but this is my general tendency. As far as types of stories you can expect from me, I do have a knack for writing some angsty stuff, particularly in the Dragonball Z fandom. For some reason, I find this somewhat easy to do for Gohan, who is my all time favorite character from any series. This mostly is due to the fact that the events of the Cell Games in the cannon leave a wide open door for the development of Gohan’s character, and is very easy to write him as an angsty pre-teen-turning-teenager. However, although I’m still capable of writing angst, I do have a more difficult time writing this genre if it’s any other character. Instead, I feel like my strength is writing family relationship oriented fics. Once again, I am better at this with Dragonball Z over any other series, but that is because it is my favorite series to write about. I have no difficulties writing about family relationships in any fandom that I’m interested in. In particular, I like writing about father/son duos such as Goku/Gohan in Dragonball Z or Kratos/Lloyd in Tales of Symphonia. I’m also particularly fond of special friendships that go beyond blood, such as the Piccolo/Gohan and Lloyd/Genis. This is my true strength of my writing, and almost all of my stories will feature this type of dynamic to them. Far and away though the favorite relationship I like to write about is the fraternal relationship between brothers. Almost all of my stories will have this type of relationship in at least a minor role. If there isn’t a cannon fraternal relationship, most times I will add an OC to the mix. This is evident in my Hunter x Hunter story “Lost Soul” and my Harry Potter story “Fraternal Love.” Of course my favorite duo to write about is the Gohan/Goten fraternal relationship in Dragonball Z. To me, this is an incredibly unique situation that they both are in. Gohan had just lost his father to a mistake that he himself had made, and is most likely feeling guilty about it. However, he learns that he’s going to be a big brother not long after that. Now he has a major role in not only being a good brother, but being more of a father to his baby brother. It is my personal opinion that it’s because of Gohan’s relationship with Goten that he was so happy and carefree in the Buu Saga; Goten got him through the hard times post-Cell. Because of this, I absolutely love the relationship that these two have, with Gohan being both a brother and a father figure to his little brother. Expect that in every fan fiction that I write with these two characters, that they will be incredibly tight knit. Then there’s the other side of this relationship. Because I see Gohan as the dad to Goten, it actually is difficult for me to write the Goku/Goten relationship in which Goku plays the role of Goten’s dad. The only scenario where I could make this relationship work is if Goku comes back after the Cell Games (whether he is wished back or just doesn’t die; it matters not). Other than that scenario, I will either have Goku play the “cool uncle” role or the grandfather role (depending on whether Chichi is also alive or not—I tend to kill her off a lot for some reason; it’s not because I don’t like her either, but it for some reason it always turns out that way); either that, or he won’t even be there (staying dead even after the Buu Saga). Unfortunately, if you are a fan of the Goku/Goten relationship, then you will most likely be disappointed in my stories. I’ve also tried to dabble a little bit into the romantic world, although admittedly I’m not that great at writing romance. For any romance I have written, I have always requested extensive feedback from silverstardust17 in order to make it better. I don’t know what it is, as I have no trouble writing family love, but for some reason, when it comes to romantic relationships I feel awkward. Nonetheless, I am well aware that romantic relationships are a major part of life, and as such will be included in my stories. However, although I have no problem with extreme romance stories (I actually am a fan of quite a few of these stories), I wouldn’t expect it to be extremely lovey-dovey like some other stories. If you are wondering about my pairings for these stories, I will leave that for my “Relationships by Series” section of my profile. Speaking of romantic relationships, I would like to briefly touch on my lemons policy, as I actually have had requests in the past about writing lemons in my stories. While I appreciate that you believe that I can write a lemon, and that you like my pairings enough to request one, I will say this right now: there will be no lemons in my stories, at least not in very great detail. I am very lenient when it comes to most things about writing, but I am strict when it comes to explicit content. The highest rating any of my stories will be will be T, and that is where it will stay. Besides, I already have a difficult enough time writing regular romance, I definitely would not be able to write a lemon. Trust me, it would turn out horrible. Another strict policy of mine is on the subject of gore: there will be no gore. That doesn’t mean that there will be no fighting or violence. There will be intense battles in my stories, where people will get hurt and blood will definitely be shed. However, while I do my best to make injuries seem realistic, I believe there is a fine line between realistic descriptive writing, and unnecessary gore. There are a few stories that come to my mind in which I had really liked the story, but I had to stop reading because of the gory descriptions. If this is a genre that you like, I apologize in advance that there will not be any extreme gore in my stories. That is pretty much all I can think of at the moment. Like all my other sections, if I think of adding anything else, I will update my profile as necessary. IV. Me as a Reader Once again, thank you for reading my profile. In this section, you will learn all about me as a reader on this site. I will tell you everything from what types of stories I look for, what length of story and even preferred chapter length. This is the section to look at if you’re wondering where I’ll be most active on the site in terms of a reader and what types of stories I’m interested in. The types of stories/fandoms I mention in this section will also be the ones that I will most likely review, and this section will also go over my policies when it comes to reviewing stories as well. So far over the past couple of years I’ve been on this site, I have only read stories from two fandoms: Dragonball Z and Harry Potter. I also plan on getting into Tales of Symphonia at some point, especially since silverstardust17 is writing a story in this fandom. As of this moment though, I have not yet gone into this fandom extensively like the other two. When I browse the website for stories, I look at mainly two things: the characters and the length of the story. I actually find a lot of the time that I can tell whether a story is well written or not just by seeing how long the chapter length or average chapter length is. When I look for stories in terms of length, I generally look for long, detailed, multi-chapter stories with long chapters, the ideal length for a multi-chapter story being 4000 words (the longer the better for me). I also like reading one shots on certain events (like the birth of Goten, or a certain snippet in time of a Gohan/Videl romance) or companion pieces of a longer story, with the length of these ideally 5000 words, although I do frequently read much shorter. This section will be broken into fandoms. The reason for this is that each fandom is unique. I oftentimes find that I look for completely different things to read about based off of which fandom I'm reading. As I get into more fandoms, I will add more fandoms to this section. Dragonball Z: Dragonball Z is my main interest both in writing and in reading, so this is the one I look at the most. I know the vast majority of the characters like the back of my hand, so it’s interesting to see the twists that people like to put on their lives. This is also the fandom that I was most disappointed in when it ended, not only because it was such a great series, but because it also ended on such a sour note for me (see least favorite characters section for more details on this). Also, while I really did like the writing in the series for the majority of the time, I found some parts of it to be both frustrating and infuriating, so naturally I would be drawn to this fandom as one to look for new twists on the story, which is what fan fiction is at heart. When it comes to story selection and stories that I continue to read, I generally have only two major requirements: they can’t have too much unnecessary gore, and they have to have Gohan in them. Now I do read stories where Gohan isn’t the main character or the main focus of the story (although not really that often), but he has to play at least a minor role in the plot. This is because he is without a doubt my favorite character. If he’s not part of the story, I usually don't have any interest in reading it. The exception to this rule would be one-shots/short stories. When it comes to genres of stories that I read, I generally like most genres. I’m a total girl in the fact that I actually do enjoy a good romance story, mostly pertaining to Gohan. I particularly love fluffy, sweet romances where there is a happy ending. And when it comes to lemons, while I do not seek them out on my own, if there are a few in the story, I'm indifferent to them. I am an adult, so I can handle that type of writing. I also realize that it is a big part of many romance stories, so a lemon scene here and there won’t scare me away. Now if the story is only lemons, then I most likely won’t read it. I also don’t really read one-shot lemons. Another genre I really enjoy is the adventure/action genre, particularly stories such as ones where there are alternate timelines with new enemies or new takes on cannon battles, as well as alternate universe stories. After all, this is one of the main reasons to write fan fiction: create new universes from an already great story. I like a good variety of AUs, ranging from stories in which planet Vegeta was never blown up, stories where Gohan actually was taken from Earth by Raditz in the beginning, stories where Raditz becomes one of the Z fighters, butterfly effect stories where one small change in the very beginning of the series can change the way the whole series goes, and stories in which the DBZ characters live in a completely different universe. I like to see how things would turn out differently if a certain event didn’t go one way or if the Z-fighters lived in a different world. The only exception I really have for AU stories are stories where Videl suddenly becomes a saiyan. For this to work for me, she must be introduced as a saiyan from the very beginning and know that she is a saiyan. I don't like stories where she is a normal human up until the Cell games and then all of a sudden finds out that she's saiyan, then suddenly becomes stronger than pretty much all of the human fighters instantly. I also am not a big fan of stories in which she uses the dragonballs to wish she was a saiyan. I think Videl's character is perfect as a human, and as such should stay that way, only being a saiyan in very particular AUs in which she is a saiyan from the very start. One of the most interesting types of stories for me to read are stories that revolve around time travel, in particular ones where either Gohan’s children go back in time from the future to the present, where Goten goes back in time to the time when Gohan was his age or younger, or when Gohan goes back in time to the Dragonball timeline. I really like these stories particularly because I like to see how the person going back in time affects the events of the past that we already know. It’s really fun to think of scenarios where the presence of those one or two characters would change the outcomes completely. I also like to see if the people of that timeline recognize the time traveler(s). If they do, how will they react and if not, how will they treat them? This is something that I like reading with Goten and Chibi Gohan, Gohan’s future children and Gohan, and Goku and Gohan since it is my personal belief that these family bonds would traverse time. My absolute favorite stories to read though are the family oriented ones (shocker). To me, this is an aspect of Dragonball Z that was not well elaborated on. I realize that it was an action show, but the characters were so well written and the relationships were so complex that it could have had a little more family moments in it too. I would have liked to see how Akira Toriyama would have written the seven year gap following the Cell Games, including how Gohan dealt with the sacrifice of his father to the birth of his new baby brother. That is the main reason why I love this genre so much. Within this genre, I especially love stories that deal with the Gohan/Goku relationship and (mostly) the Gohan/Goten relationship. These are the first stories I look for when I start to browse what’s on here. That about does it for this section of my profile. If I think of anything else to add, I will add it in and update my profile accordingly. V. Review Policy: Now that you know a bit about what types of stories I like to read, I would like to briefly go over my policies when it comes to reviewing stories. I know as a fellow writer that while reviews aren’t the main focus of writing our stories (at least not to me) that they provide the writer with not only good feedback on how they can improve, but also confidence in what they’re writing is actually being read. With this in mind, I take reviewing very seriously. I’m going to say this up front: I don’t ask that whatever story I review sends a review of one of my stories my way—I absolutely hate it when authors do that. To me, that is basically forcing someone to review your story in an effort to make your story look better by getting a higher review count. Not only that, but when you make people review your story, the review tends to be less honest and more forced. Personally, I believe people should only review if they want to; that way the author gets much more honest, helpful feedback, plus they know that the person who reviewed really cares about the story. So it’s this expectation that you should also hold of me. If someone tells me that since they reviewed my story that I need to review theirs, I most likely will ignore their request. I usually check out the authors that favorite/follow/review my stories on my own anyways without further prompting, so this is not even necessary, but if someone tries to guilt me into reviewing, it has the opposite effect on me. Just keep this in mind if you want a review from me. I admit that I don’t review too often, and that I should review much more frequently. However, I can justify myself a little bit by saying that when I do review a story, I put a great amount of thought into what I’m going to say in my reviews. I believe that when you review a story, you should take the time to actually think about what you’re going to say and how it will be received by the author. I always take the time to thoroughly outline what I want to say, and try my best to be encouraging and say my criticisms in the most professional and appropriate manner without demeaning the author. I also try to think of at least two positive things to say about the story for every criticism, and with every criticism, I always try and explain what I’m thinking while suggesting ways that the author could improve upon the element being criticized. Because of all of the work that goes into each review, it takes a lot of time for me to write even a single review; therefore, I must be selective in what stories I want to review. Like I have previously mentioned, I only review stories that I want to, so I need to have a pretty strong feeling about the story to work up the effort to review it. I tend to review stories that I either really like a lot, or that I feel have great potential with a little fixing up. Also, because of the effort that goes into each review I give, my reviews tend to be much longer than most others’. There have been a few instances where I’ve actually not been able to get everything I want to say into the 8000 character limit the website sets on reviews. In these cases, I will send the author a PM to finish my thoughts. Either way, when I review, expect a thorough, well thought out response. I also highly encourage anyone who has any issues with my review to respond to my review via PM to discuss the content, although I will not say that this is a must (only respond if you want to). VI. Favorite Characters By Fandom This is my section on which I rank all of my favorite characters in each respective fandom. Right now I’m only doing this for one fandom, but I am currently working on a second. Nonetheless, I will add more when I find it necessary. These lists will also consist of my top 5 characters in each fandom. Dragonball Z: 1. Gohan: This choice shouldn’t be a shocker to anyone reading this. What is there not to like about the kid? As a chibi the kid is so freaking adorable and cute. As an adolescent, he is gentle, yet powerful, becoming a true hero. As a teen/adult, he is warm-hearted and innocent (if a little goofy and clueless at times) and is an amazing big brother and father. His character is a writer's dream, dynamic and complex so you can mold him any way you want. He is just so much fun to write! My love for Gohan goes all the way back to when I was first watching the show. I started watching the Dragonball Z anime back in elementary school, so for the majority of the series, I was around the same age as Gohan. I found that I could really relate to him extremely well. He was just a kid that was forced into so many battles, yet he never quit or gave up. He was so brave and stuck through all of it despite the fact that he was one of the weaker members of the group for the earlier parts of the series. I found that I admired his courage, but I think it was the fact that he was just a kid like me that really drew me to his character. I was always cheering for him whenever I watched the show, and it made me believe that I could do stuff just like him: that being a kid doesn’t mean you can’t do great things. It was because of this that my favorite moment in the whole series was the Cell Games. I can still remember to this day the shock I felt when it was announced that Gohan, not Goku, was going to be the one to beat Cell. When he transformed into a SSJ2 in that battle, I was completely ecstatic. I remember feeling bitter when Goku decided to sacrifice himself to stop Cell’s self-destruction, but satisfied when Gohan finally finished off the monster after Cell regenerated. And while I was disappointed (at the time) that Goku wasn’t returning, I thought that this gave Gohan the perfect opportunity to take over the role of the main character of the show, which was something I was really excited for. Those were the main reasons I loved Gohan growing up, but these days, I’ve found different reasons, and they all start with a twist I never even saw coming. That would be the fact that Gohan got a little brother. I absolutely loved the dynamic that Goten added to Gohan’s character because it showed me something that I never really thought of as a kid: the fact that Gohan was an amazing father figure. It took me a while to realize this because I had to remember that Goku wasn’t around for the whole seven year time skip. That whole time he had helped his mother raise his little brother, Gohan being the main male role model and father figure to Goten, and that really struck home for me. In the show, it showed Gohan doting on Goten, but it really didn’t go into the relationship too much. However, I could tell that there was an incredible bond between the two of them, and it was this bond that really sealed the deal for me. 2. Goten: This kid only recently became one of my favorite characters. There are certain things that I always loved about Goten that I didn’t really think about too much. His personality is just a joy; he is carefree and happy. Whenever he is in a scene I can’t help but smile as he is always a bundle of sunshine, and brings an element of happiness that lights up an entire room. As a chibi, he is so adorable and innocent that I want to just cuddle him and never let go, yet beneath that there is a power that is not natural for someone his age. And although we don’t really see him as a teenager/adult much, I could definitely see him growing into the joking/class clown type of student during his high school/college days. He just seems to have that kind of personality. Goten reminds me so much of a chibi Gohan that it is scary. He is so cute and innocent, and definitely is powerful much beyond his age. However, they are also incredible different as well. Although it doesn't get mentioned much, I don’t think that Goten possesses that “hidden power” that Gohan does, but makes up for it with a deeper well of pure ki to start with. Personality wise, Goten is much less mature, but also much less shy and timid of the world around him, although this is to be expected with the differences in how the two grew up. While Gohan grew up fighting for his life, Goten didn’t experience any of that until Buu, which is after the majority of his character had already been set. However, both Gohan and Goten are the exact same when it comes to their caring, loving personality. Both love nature, and the life that is in it, and both care about their family a ton. One thing about Goten though that I believe is underrated is his intelligence. It is my personal belief that Goten is actually incredibly smart, and that he just doesn’t come off that way in the series because of his age. He also is compared to Gohan often on this subject, which I think isn’t fair at all. For one, even though they are both brothers, they are two completely different people, and grew up with completely different lives. Gohan grew up with Chichi forcing books upon him left and right, and eventually Gohan started to like academics. It was completely different for Goten, not being forced to study as much (I believe that Gohan had a lot to do with this). This fact in combination with Chichi actually encouraging his martial arts background led Goten to not develop the same study habits, and in turn they didn't inspire the motivation to learn his academics to the same extent that his older brother did. As such, he isn’t as bright on common academic subjects, something that gets pointed out frequently in both the cannon and the fan fiction I read on this site. But mostly, I think he was portrayed the way he was because he was only a seven year old boy, and acted like a normal seven year old boy. People tend to forget that Gohan was actually the outlier when it comes to little kids since he was the first example in the series of how one would act. A lot of times though, people transfer this lack of book smarts to pure stupidity. I’m actually shocked at some of the stories that are on here that really make Goten to be a pawn that is so easily manipulated by Trunks, and that has absolutely no clue what is going on. Can Goten be clueless? Most certainly; everyone in the Son family is going to be on certain things (girls for example). However, I believe that if motivated, Goten could be every bit as intelligent as Gohan or Trunks, and that he has a hidden depth of knowledge that isn’t touched upon in the series mainly because of the nature of the story (the fact that it’s a fighting story). Goten’s intelligence is one of my pet-peeves, and I really can’t stand it when he is portrayed as a complete idiot only because people forget he was seven the entire series. 3. Videl: When most people think of Videl, they either think of Gohan’s girlfriend/wife, or they think of her as a scary, hard-nosed skeptic that has trust issues. Many people find Videl's interrogating nature to be annoying, and I have found in many stories that this is something that is exaggerated excessively. I for one, found this aspect of her personality to be one of the things I liked about her, not to mention that it's incredibly understandable. As the daughter of Hercule Satan, 'defeater of Cell,' she probably gets a ton of people begging to be her friend just because of her fame, so developing an inquisitive nature is completely reasonable in order to protect herself from fake people. Not only that, but she also questions whether or not her father even did what he claimed to do. I find this to be absolutely incredible because her father is the 'world savior' Hercule Satan. For as much of a moron that her father is, he is incredibly charismatic and can really work the press to believe anything, and in turn, work the public. Videl, while at first most likely believed her father, became skeptical the more and more famous he got. If she can’t really trust her father to be honest with her, then how can she trust a complete stranger? Skepticism and doubt are to be expected in her situation. The main reason I love her though is due to her sense of justice and her personality. She is strong, intelligent, and does things the right way for the right reasons. When I found out that she fought crime, helping out the Satan City Police, I immediately gained a ton of respect for her. She didn’t know anything about ki manipulation (at least when she first started) and she still fought crime in her city. Not only that, but she fights crime not to gain attention like her father, but to legitimately make the city safer, which is truly admirable. I also found it really amazing the dedication that she put into her crime fighting and the fact that she was so good at it despite not knowing about ki and only being a teenager. As far as her personality, she is very intense when she wants to be, and incredibly passionate; however, she is also a gentle, pure soul that can be vulnerable when you get past her tough exterior. Like Gohan, she is one of the most complex characters in the whole series, with an author being able to write her any way they want. This is why I love writing her so much, and why she is one of my all time favorite characters. 4. Krillin: This choice may come as a surprise to some people. There are a few reasons why Krillin is my number four. One of my reasons is his personality. He is an incredibly fun-loving guy who is always able to lighten the mood. He is incredibly sarcastic, and also can be a bit ridiculous at times with his antics, and he seems to always be cracking jokes. He even jokes about himself, something that I find I can relate to as I’m always making fun of myself as well. But while many people put him down because he isn’t as strong as a super saiyan, he still is incredibly strong in his own right, and in my opinion he is the strongest of the human fighters. Krillin is one of the more skilled fighters in the group, something that I believe is an underrated part of his arsenal. He has superb ki manipulation skills as a human, and is able to easily create new ways in which he can use his ki. He is also dedicated to his training, but not completely taken over by it where he can’t have fun in life or have other interests as well. However, by far Krillin’s greatest aspect is his courage. He is the one human fighter that has been through it all. He’s gone through battle after battle, fighting for his life while being overpowered the vast majority of the time—even getting killed once—yet he still keeps showing up big when needed. There are many times where Krillin has stood his ground and fought with all that he has even though he was terrified on the inside. I gained tons of respect for Krillin during the Frieza Saga where he risked his life to bring everyone back with the namekian dragon balls, looking out for Gohan the whole time as well. It is his ability to fight his fears in order to protect those that he loves that gives him this spot on my list. 5. Piccolo: There will always be a soft spot for the namekian in my heart. He is the first mentor to Gohan, and became one of his best friends. He was the dad that Gohan rarely got from Goku growing up, and it’s completely obvious that he cares about his former rival’s son a great deal. However, there are other reasons I like Piccolo besides his incredible relationship with Gohan. Piccolo is a character that I find very easy to like. He is strong and stern, demanding and hash, yet he is also loving and caring, and very passionate. He likes to keep up a tough exterior, but deep down, he cares a lot about the people of Earth, and does his best to protect the planet that he once tried to take over. Piccolo is truly strong, proving himself to be one of the strongest of the group, but this isn’t what makes him one of the biggest assets to the Z-team. While his strength is nothing to sneeze at, there are others in the group that have similar, or even greater strength. Piccolo’s biggest attribute that he beings to the table is his wisdom. It is my personal opinion that Piccolo is by far the wisest person on the entire Z-team. In a way it makes sense since by the end of the Cell Saga, he had merged with two other wise namekians (Nail and Kami). This gave him a vast base of life knowledge that is unmatched by anyone on Earth. However, I would argue that he was that way even before he merged with the other two namekians. Piccolo is a master strategist, and never goes into battle without a plan. He is quick to pick out enemy weaknesses, and rapidly changes his tactics to exploit these. If he gets beat by one thing, he will make sure that it never happens again. One of Piccolo’s best characteristics though is his cool head. He rarely is phased by the situation, and it seems he is always approaching the situation rationally. Very rarely will you see Piccolo off of his game. It is a combination of these characteristics that makes Piccolo one of the most difficult fighters to down. VII. Least Favorite Characters by Fandom Like my last section, this section is where I rank all of the characters that I don’t particularly like from each fandom. Once again, I only have one fandom, but I am also working on a second, and will add more when I deem necessary. These will also consist of my 5 least favorites from each fandom. One thing to note about these lists: if a character is on this list, it doesn’t necessarily mean I hate them. When I do this list, I weigh in multiple factors, including, but not limited to; character development, expectations from said character, the way they were written, and personality. This is why a character I don’t hate may be ranked higher than a character that I legitimately hate. Keep that in mind when you read these lists. Dragonball Z: 1. Adult Goku: You might be asking "why Goku?" I mean, after all, he is the main hero and protagonist in the whole series. To tell you the truth, that may be one of the reasons why I do dislike the man. I have been debating with myself over the past few years what I think of Goku because I find myself back and forth with how I feel about him. One minute I like him and the next I don’t. It really depends on which stories I had read recently most times. In the end, in order to analyze what I thought about Goku, I had to go back to the cannon, and that is how I was able to finally make my decision regarding Goku. I can now confidently say that Goku Son is my least favorite character in the whole Dragonball Z series. The explanation why is pretty simple: his overpowering adventurous nature. Goku was always adventurous from the very beginning; just look at all of his adventures in Dragonball. However, you probably noticed that I specified that I dislike ‘Adult’ Goku, and not ‘Chibi' Goku. This might not make sense at first since they both are the same person, but there is one giant difference between the two: their responsibilities. Chibi Goku didn’t have a family that he was responsible for; Adult Goku did. In the beginning of the DBZ series, he was admirable, being a great dad as well as a hero of the world. As the story progressed though, I saw him becoming more and more inclined to the 'hero' role and less to the 'dad' role. Then, his deeds started to become less ‘heroic,’ and more spontaneous. It had seemed that time after time, Goku had picked the adventure over his family in the series. I’ll give you a few examples of what stood out to me, and show you what I mean by this 'decline from heroism.' At first, his adventures were completely understandable. When he died fighting Raditz, yet refused to come back for the year, he was training at King Kai’s in order to prepare for a critical battle for the Earth that he knew would be coming in the year, and a fight against the most difficult opponents. In this situation, there was no doubt that he was coming back, and the reason for his absence was completely reasonable. After that, I started becoming more skeptical of his adventures. After he defeated Frieza on Namek, he escaped the exploding planet and crash landed on Planet Yardrat. However, the Z-team had no clue of his survival until after they summoned the dragon on Earth. They had wished for Goku to come home, but the saiyan had refused saying he would come home on his own. While he ended up needing to stay in order to learn a new technique that would become very useful in the future, he didn’t give his family any explanation or timeframe on when he would be home. This had caused unnecessary stress on both Chichi and Gohan, both wondering for years when Goku would come home. Not only that, but because he wasn’t there, the planet almost was destroyed by Frieza. Even though he still probably could have gotten home in time using the instant transmission technique he had just learned, he still made his friends panic since they had no clue where he was and when he would be back when they needed him most. The event that really was the turning point in my questioning of his motives was the Cell Games. I will say this right now: I do NOT blame Goku for his actions DURING the Cell Games. He knew that Gohan was the only one that could have beaten Cell and I think he did a good thing going first to show his son Cell’s fighting technique. In also think that when he sacrificed himself to clean up for his son’s mistake he was being both heroic and a good father. He was protecting his son by any means possible at that point, which I found brave. However, I DO blame Goku for his actions both BEFORE and AFTER the events of the Cell Games. Goku had claimed to have known that Gohan would be the one to beat Cell the entire time, yet never told his son his plan until the moment he announced it at the Cell Games. After thinking about this some, my only explanation on why he would have done this is because he didn’t want his son to stress out about fighting Cell. He didn't want to put the pressure on his son and instead allow him to relax the few days before the Cell Games; this, of course is completely understandable. He was just trying to protect his son and preserve his happiness for as long as possible like any good father would. I would have had no qualms with this if he hadn't planned that Gohan was going to fight from the very beginning. However, by deciding before the Cell Games that Gohan was going to fight, Goku opened himself up to the responsibility of informing his son of the pressure that he's going to be put under at the Cell Games before they actually take place. If he thought highly enough of Gohan where he believed that he is the biggest hope of the world, then he should have also believed that his son was mature enough to handle the pressure of being the Earth's greatest hope since he is going to be feeling the pressure eventually anyways when it's his turn to fight. Telling Gohan before the actual moment arrived would have allowed him to deal with the emotions sooner and help him cope with the pressure before the big moment eventually came. He would have gone into the fight more confident instead of having to deal with all of the pressure at once in the moment in which he actually need to fight for the Earth. However, it was the events after the Cell Games that made no sense to me, and this is where my dislike for Goku really started taking shape. When he refused to be wished back after the events of the Cell Games, most people saw it as heroic and selfless. I saw it as abandonment and selfishness. He decided to stay dead because he thought it would rid the Earth of all future threats? Really? I found this logic completely asinine. Just because Goku isn’t there doesn’t mean that Earth will be safe. Enough events have happened on Earth where it is now intergalactically known for hosting strong warriors, and this alone would be explanation enough for enemies to come to the blue planet. Babidi was proof of this theory, as the Supreme Kai himself said that Babidi was looking for Gohan to gain enough ki to release Majin Buu. Also, even though Goku is now dead, his enemies wouldn’t know that. Bojack was proof of this when he went to Earth looking for Goku, even though he was already dead. By making this choice, Goku had in fact done the opposite of his intention: he actually put it in more danger with him, Earth’s most reliable warrior, not there to protect it. Even so, while Goku may actually have thought that what he was doing was better for the Earth as a whole, I still believe that his main motivation to stay in Other World was to train and go on adventures with the greats that have passed on, leaving everyone on Earth—including his family—in the dust. The fact that he made the decision on what seemed like a whim, and the fact that he was so cheerful about it both support this argument. If that’s not enough, Goku ends up coming back seven years later anyways. One of my most hated plot points in the manga/anime is when Old Kai gave his life to let Goku come back to the living realm. To me, this made absolutely no sense. My thoughts on this are that he said that he didn't want to come back to life, and he shouldn't have been able to come back; yet here he is again, back in the land of the living after seven years of being dead and abandoning his family. I think the thing I hated most about that whole thing was the fact that his family acted like he didn't willingly ditch them for the last seven years, Gohan especially. The thing that made me lose my respect for Goku completely however was the end of the series. Goku has been back in the mix for ten years now and appears to have settled down finally, spending time with his family and helping in the raising of Goten. He also seems to have an incredibly strong relationship with his granddaughter Pan, as the four year old seems to be incredibly attached to him. Then all of a sudden, Uub arrives at the tournament, and he ditches his whole family to go off and train this complete stranger. There is no immediate threat, no villain to prepare for, yet he still goes off anyways, not only to train him periodically, but to live with him! He leaves, completely breaking Pan's heart in the process. I think the part that got to me the most out of this whole situation was just how aloof he was about the whole thing. He left so spontaneously and without a second thought. This was the last straw for me. It really made me wonder if Goku truly cared about his family at all if he can just so willy nilly leave them like that after ten years of being home. Maybe he does, but his adventurous nature just overpowers everything else in his mind. I don't hate Goku, but I don't like him and I certainly don't respect him for what he did at the end. 2. Vegeta: All I have to say about why I don't like Vegeta is arrogance. Everyone goes on and on about 'saiyan pride' and how the reason why Vegeta is the way he is is because of his pride. Well I'm not buying it. There is pride, and then there is arrogance. To be prideful is one thing. While pride in itself can be self-destructive, pride can also help you better yourself. You strive for excellence because you take pride in what you do, in who you are. You strive to do better to prove to others that you can do what you're proud of better. Arrogance however is completely different. Arrogance is nothing but destructive. Arrogance is saying that you're better than everyone else simply because of a title or because of their social status. An arrogant person hasn't actually done anything to show that they are better than someone; they don't have the motivation to because in their mind, they don't need to since they already believe they are better than anyone else. I believe that Vegeta is the way he is, not because of saiyan pride, but because of his saiyan arrogance. There is so much proof throughout the series. How often do you see Vegeta state that he is 'the prince of all saiyans' and that Goku should be nothing but trash to him? Vegeta had never once shown throughout the series that he was better than Goku, and there's a reason why: he automatically thought he was better. I always go back to the time in between the Frieza Saga and the Cell Saga for my most solid proof. He goes on and on throughout that entire time about how he should be the one to become the super saiyan, only because he was the 'prince of all saiyans.' He claims it to be his 'birthright.' At that point, he hadn't done anything at all to prove that it was his birthright, or that he deserved to be the super saiyan because of his title. That's because titles don't matter! I could go on and on about this, as there are many more examples than just the ones I've used. Bottom line: Vegeta is number 2 on this list because of his arrogance that only serves to make me want to strangle him. 3. Yamcha: In my opinion, Yamcha is the most disappointing character in DBZ. He had so much potential in the original Dragonball. He was one of the best human fighters and he could have improved so much. He had his arrogant side early on, but that died down (unlike Vegeta) as he was humbled by Goku. But most of all, he was pretty courageous in DB and he always stood up for those that meant a lot to him. The DBZ Yamcha however was an extreme disappointment. Not only did he become useless in the battles (and let's be honest, all of the human Z-fighters were after the Frieza Saga), but he was portrayed as a moron later on, stating the obvious much too often as well as sounding like a complete idiot half the time he opened his mouth. Worst of all though, he became a coward. He hid behind the others and never really wanted to help despite the fact that his friends were in danger. It was like he was a completely different character in DBZ. This is one of my very few criticisms of Akira Toryama. He definitely could have developed the human fighters a lot more, but more specifically Yamcha. I lost so much respect for the desert bandit after the saiyan invasion, and it was because of how he was portrayed, both on the battlefield and off of it. I really didn't like that he was a 'player' with the women. In DB, he was actually afraid to talk to women other than Bulma, so this didn't make any sense to me. I also hated the fact that when it was crunch time, he offered absolutely no useful insight, and was most of the time a hinderance rather than an asset. What was once a great character in the early series, turned into a pathetic one later who reached only a very small fraction of his true potential. Again, another example of a character I don't hate, but don't like either, but mainly because of his poor character development in transition from DB to DBZ. Disappointing! 4. Babidi: The “whiny little imp” as I like to call him, Babidi is my all time hated character in DBZ. I just can’t stand the small wizard. First of all, his voice has got to be the most annoying thing I had ever heard in the entire series (although Buu’s isn’t that far off). Just listening to him talk made my ears bleed! Secondly, I hate his stupid, evil plot. I still have no idea why evil villains love destroying everything, especially since they won’t have anywhere to go afterwards, and Babidi seemed to be the one who was the most caught up on this goal out of any villain. There is absolutely no point in doing that. Thirdly, I hated his stupid magical powers. I know he’s supposed to be a wizard, but taking over other peoples' minds? Getting others to do his bidding? That is one of the most annoying powers that I have ever seen. However what I hate the most about Babidi is that he has the most annoying personality I have ever seen! He treats his slaves like complete garbage, not giving them any respect, and when he’s successful, he has that idiotic evil grin on his face and that shrill, annoying laugh that makes me want to bang my head against a wall. He will then gloat on and on about how he is so great. The worst though is when he fails at something. He is such a whiny brat when he doesn’t get his way, throwing a giant temper tantrum. He reminds me a lot of a spoiled toddler in this sense. While most of the others on this list have some complex reasons why I don’t like them, for Babidi, it is pretty straightforward: I just hate this guy’s guts, plain and simple. 5. Majin Buu: Like my reason for Babidi, my reason for putting Majin Buu on this list is pretty simple: I hate the monster. I hate this enemy for the simple reason that he was such a ridiculously overpowered piece of crap that it was literally insane. Here, let me list a few of his abilities and you’ll see what I mean. 1. The ability to withstand physical damage to his body 2. Unlimited stamina 3. No ki ceiling (the ability to get stronger as his opponent gets stronger) 4. The ability to manipulate matter (his “chocolate beam”) 5. The ability to manipulate the physical properties of his own body 6. The ability to absorb people and take their powers and ki 7. The ability to learn complex ki moves on the fly 8. The ability to heal physical ailments (healing that blind kid) 9. Self-regeneration from as small of a form as a mist 10. The ability to regenerate other peoples’ bodies (healing Babidi after Piccolo literally cut him in half) So as you can see, the list is a bit extensive, with so many of the abilities not even being related. The only power he didn’t have was immortality. And to top it all off, he was a fat, pink, bubble-gum monster. I rest my case. VIII. Relationhips By Fandom Here is the section where you will find out what relationships I like to read about. This is also where you will find any pairings that I will write, as well as the platonic relationships I will emphasize in my writing (If you didn’t get that already). I will organize this section first by fandom, and then break each fandom down by romantic relationships, then platonic/family relationships. And once again, I will rank my top 5 starting from favorite. Dragonball Z: Romantic Relationships: 1. Gohan/Videl: This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. I absolutely love this pairing! Not only do I love both characters like mad, but they also are perfect for each other together. I really think that Gohan’s calm, patient demeanor balances out Videl’s hot, spitfire personality very well. What makes that relationship even more fantastic is that it is the most ironic couple that I have ever seen. The hidden savior of the world getting together with the daughter of the pompous fraud that got famous from taking his credit. If that’s not ironic, I don’t know what is. 2. Krillin/Eighteen: This pairing however is the shocker of the century. I would have never thought I would like this pairing this much. However, the more I thought about it, the more I started to love it. It helps that Krillin is one of my favorite characters, and I was so happy for him when he and Eighteen actually got together. However, I think the real reason I like this pairing so much is because it is an unexpected pairing. I would have never thought that Android Eighteen would even end up with anyone, let alone the short, bald monk. She was once the enemy of the Z-fighters, but Krillin’s love really changed her. As I thought about it even more, personality wise, they fit well too. Krillin’s fun-loving, joking attitude is exactly what is needed for getting the apathetic Android Eighteen to open up a bit more. They are perfect for each other. 3. Goten/Marron: The son of Goku with the daughter of Krillin. This pairing just worked based off of that principle alone. Now as far as cannon goes, you don’t really get that much character development from Marron, so all I have to work with in order to determine her personality is her parents. I feel like Marron would match up with Goten perfectly if she inherited most of Krillin’s personality. They would both be outgoing, cheerful, fun-loving people that would have a hard time getting mad at the other. I even think it would work if Marron inherited more of her mom’s personality, as Goten would balance out her colder demeanor with his bright, light-hearted one. Personally, when I think of Marron, I see her growing up to be a mix of both of her parents, but I’m positive that this pairing would work well regardless. 4. Bulma/Vegeta: I surprisingly like this pairing a lot despite the fact that I dislike Vegeta. These two were made for each other simply because both are incredibly stubborn. Neither one of them backs down on anything, and both end up balancing each other out incredibly well because of it. It’s as if both have met their match when it comes to arguments in each other, which I personally find absolutely hilarious. For me though, the reason I like this pairing is because it is another “redeeming” relationship. Although Bulma may not have been the one to start the change in Vegeta from evil to good, she definitely helped accelerate the process and finish it off. Her caring, demanding personality really changed the saiyan prince from his killing ways. Now if only she could change his arrogance… 5. Trunks/OC: Sorry all of you Trunks/Pan fans. I just can’t see that pairing. Although I don’t have much of a problem with the age difference (as long as they get together once Pan is in her twenties), I just find it improbable for that pairing to occur. It would take way to long for Trunks to develop romantic feelings for Pan, and I would think that Trunks would end up with someone by the time that they would develop. And since I believe that Goten would end up with Marron, by process of elimination, the only other realistic option for Trunks would be an OC. Platonic/Family Relationships: 1. Gohan/Goten: Wow, who would have guessed this one. I’ve only talked about this relationship multiple times throughout the rest of my profile. I just love the unique dynamic that these two have. It’s a double relationship in which both characters have multiple roles. First, theres the obvious fraternal relationship where they are both brothers. Gohan and Goten both can go to each other for anything and everything and not have to worry about being judged. They also are capable of helping each other out of sticky situations when it comes to their sometimes overbearing mother. They respect each other, push each other, and love each other the way only brothers can. Then there’s the other relationship between the two of them: the dad/son relationship. This is a unique situation in which the older brother of ten years is in the position to raise his younger sibling like his own son. It was Gohan who was the one who took care of Goten when he was just a baby. He taught him how to walk, how to eat, he potty trained him, and took care of him when he was sick. Gohan is the one who Goten would go to when he was scared from a nightmare, or if he was sad and needed comfort. And it is Gohan who I feel Goten loves as his dad, even though Goku is his father. I also feel like Gohan loves Goten as his own son in addition to as a brother. 2. Gohan/Piccolo: This relationship is definitely one of my all time favorites. Piccolo and Gohan was one of the most unlikely duos ever; Piccolo hated Goku with a passion and at first only ended up taking Gohan as a tool to fight the saiyans and then to take over the Earth. However, sweet, innocent, four-year-old Gohan was able to change the evil demon king into one if the Earth’s mightiest protectors with just his incredibly loving personality. Piccolo admitted it after he took Nappa’s blast in order to save Gohan. He stated that it was because Gohan was the first one ever to not treat him like a monster that he was able to find his goodness and put aside his hatred. As the years went by, and Goku was absent more and more from Gohan’s life, Piccolo took over the role of watching out for him. While Piccolo might not have exactly been a father to Gohan, he definitely treated him like his own son. As a result, Gohan was able to put his trust in Piccolo completely. By the beginning of the Cell Saga, they were completely at ease around one another, and had developed a deep bond that was unmatched among friends. 3. Goten/Trunks: This is definitely a friendship made in heaven. They both were born to be friends with each other. Trunks is a perfect combination of his father’s pride and his mothers intellect, and as such is incredibly bright and mischievous. Goten however is innocent and pure with his father’s naivety, which makes him the perfect side-kick for any of Trunks’ antics. However, Goten can be very good at giving his best friend a reality check when Trunks gets a bit too in over his head and bites off more than he can chew. They are the pure definition of best friends, who would go to the edge of the Earth together and stick with each other in even the most dire of situations. 4. Gohan/Trunks: This is one of the most underrated relationships in all of DBZ. When I say Gohan/Trunks, I mean the Gohan and Trunks of the Present Timeline, not the Mirai (future) Timeline (although that one was special in itself). I feel that Gohan had a good deal to do with Trunks’ upbringing, both because of the fact that Vegeta isn’t exactly the “fatherly” type, and the fact that Gohan was also raising Goten. With Goten and Trunks being the greatest of friends, it only makes sense that Gohan would develop a bond with the lavender haired demi-saiyan as well. I think it’s because Gohan is more doting towards Trunks than Vegeta that he would learn to enjoy Gohan’s company a lot more than he would otherwise. 5. Pan/Goken (OC): This is more of a theoretical relationship since DBZ ends before Gohan and Videl have any more children; Goken is only a placeholder for their second child, whether that be a boy or a girl. However, since in my stories Pan has a younger brother of three years named Goken, I will shamelessly plug my story and talk about the relationship that I would write for these two. The age gap between these two is both big and small, depending in which respect you look at it. Nonetheless, they both have a very tight bond. While they both have their spats and can annoy each other to death at times, deep down, they both care for each other an incredible amount. Neither one of them has to worry about putting on a mask in front of the other and both feel incredibly secure in each other’s presence. They are able to talk about anything and everything. They also are incredibly protective of one another; if you mess with one of them, you have the other one to answer to. To Goken, Pan is the one person he cherishes above all others, and Pan feels the same way about her little brother. Well, that’s everything in my profile. I do realize that it is longer than most profiles, so I really appreciate you taking some time out of your day to look it over and learn more about me. I hope you found it useful and entertaining! If there are any changes to any part of my profile, I will update it accordingly. Thank you for reading and please enjoy my stories! |
