Reviews for What Should Never Be
C. Rinkuki Takato chapter 1 . 4/23/2018
The end sounds so simple, yet it's both brilliant and stupid. Brilliant, because it shows Ed actually knowing Al had never called him anything else but "Brother". Stupid, because there's a shit ton reason why someone would stop calling someone something.
In any case, this is both sweet and quite well done

Ahhhh! You created so many possibilitiesand then snatched them away by Ed working it out so quickly! Amazing writing! Many thanks...I haven't watched Supernatural so this was quite the surprise. I love your portrayal of Ed and Al. I think that my favorite line was "But you're still my brother."

I dig this concept! I came to Supernatural late (season 6ish, which is long ago now! LOL) and quickly drew parallels with FMA. The brother-centric storylines are fabulous.

Thank you for sharing this piece!

wow... dang that was good. i remember this epiosde of supernatural and it definitely messed with me, but putting it in this universe seems to make it even worse. Great job, this was an amazing idea and you did a wonderful job with it!

Hi, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your stories and your ability to construct plots that move forward and do not leave the reader bored. I was reading one of your other stories, and it suddenly occurred to me that I would love to see you write one where one of the characters unintentionally begins a ridiculously disastrous habit of sleep-transmuting.

Thanks again for writing!
BelloftheSea chapter 1 . 11/27/2015
So... this was awesome and so completely not fair. You opened a door to a thousand possibilities and then shut it before they could all be thoroughly explored. In a way, that's part of what makes it amazing. But it's also very frustrating. I want more of this alternate dimension. I want to see Ed struggle to get through to Al. I want to see Al totally confused and skeptical about why his brother is trying so hard. I want to know what would have happened if it hadn't all just been a dream - if Ed really had fallen through a dimensional rift into an alternate reality. And yet, you wrapped this all up so nicely - like one of those amazing episodes on a tv show where a bunch of crazy things happen and you wonder where its going before the main character suddenly wakes up and then you might as well throw the whole episode out of the story because it never really happened, except that we still love it so we watch it over and over again. I've never seen Supernatural but I'm guessing the episode you based this on was a lot like that. I have a love/hate relationship with this sort of story. One of your other reviewers requested an alternate ending/continuation of this. I'm going to second that request. I would be awesome.

Excellent job.

I enjoyed reading this story so much. I've gotta say, ordinarily I hate crossover stories (and I do mean hate) but this one was a lot of fun to read. Honestly, I clicked on it without realizing what it was and just got drawn into it so fast, I couldn't back out once it became obvious what I was reading.

I really liked your characterizations and the world you created. In fact, once the story started to wind down, I was very disappointed. I wanted to read more about how Ed learned to adapt to this new world or maybe even tried to change it. It would have been fun to see him meet and interact with some of Mustang's team. Or realize more of the ways in which his absence from the military would have changed so much of the history he knew. The possibilities are endless. Any chance you might consider writing a slightly different version of this story? ;)

As it is, the story is very well written and enjoyable. You did an amazing job. Now, I'm off to read more of your stuff!

A few days ago a friend mentioned finding a Supernatural FMA story. If she had told me it was written by GRISELDA FREAKING BANKS, I WOULD'VE STARTED TO READ IT SOONER!

I've always considered that all the good Ed did as a State Alchemist would've never happened if Trisha was alive, but this story was quite a reality check to something else- he and Al never would've grown so close, even if Al didn't resent Ed's smartness. Traveling the country together, saving each other, all of that made them inseparable.

Yet another amazing story from one of my favorite writers! :3 Even though this review is late: HAPPY FMA DAY!~
Guest chapter 1 . 10/3/2015
So wow, this was great! No errors that I could see. I thought it was a little strange that the guy was holed up in the tiny town of Resembool, but it was a necessary coincidence. I really enjoy the stories of Ed jumping around in time/dimensions, even if it was only in his mind. I thought for a minute there that other-Al and Ed would have some bonding time, but it was over so quickly ;( Anyway, I loved how you ended it, it was very sweet (for Ed at least)

Oh my word as soon as I got the alert, I knew that this was going to be absolutely fabulous and heartbreaking because oh my word yes. The FMA-like relationship of Sam and Dean was what initially drew me into Supernatural, and now you're taking the most emotional episode in the show and turning it back to Ed and Al?

And you did not disappoint.

It's taken a long time for my brain to clear and become coherent again. Reading this was mostly a recurring string of "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" because you just hit everything so well and really captured all of the emotions perfectly and did /such a good job of translating that storyline into this new universe and making all of the pieces fit together/ and gah just yes thank you for this.

Thank you thank you thank you.
Obsidian Buterfly chapter 1 . 10/5/2015
Okay. That was kinda awesome. I really liked how you portrayed Ed's life in the alternate/dream dimension. Though now its making me wonder if I could try something similar in the TRC fandom. Not that I really have any time to spare for that unfortunately. Oh well. I can't recall the Supernatural episode since it's been many years since i last saw it, but i really do like the ending. Though i dunno why I kinda get the feeling that Dean gave a similar reason to Sam or was it the other way around? I think it was Dean who was trapped by a Djinn... or am I mixing episodes? xD"
feathersnow chapter 1 . 10/3/2015
Happy FMA day :D I'm so glad for this story. I got a bit scared since it was part of Supernatural, and I know Supernatural have scary stories :/ but this turned out very pleasant. A little creepy because of the too wonderful dream and al not calling him brother. Was it Dean who dreamt like this too?
I also thought it was gonna be a Mustang/Ed father son relationship because of the starting :) but never mind- I wouldn't trade anything for the last line :)
Scaehime chapter 1 . 10/3/2015
Wow. I'm sort of familiar with Supernatural, but not this episode in particular. Sheesh, this was intense. Scary at times, but I love the feels at the end.
Was it intentional that you posted on 10/3? The date and a reminder from a friend about its significance prompted me to update my own FMA fic, so I was wondering.
God bless!
