So after I watched the movie I just imagined a different ending for the scene Hiro talks about his parents. I loved the love between Tadashi and Hiro (brotherly speaking of course), so I thought I should write this. This idea came to my mind while I was walking my dog and listening to the song "Time bomb" by P!nk.
That doesn't really have anything to do with this, I just wanted to say something.
Anyways enjoy.
"What would mom and dad say?"
"I don't know. They're gone. They died when I was three, remember?"
Tadashi sighed as a few memories started to go through his mind. He watched as his fourteen years old brother walked towards the door to leave.
"I do."
"What?" Hiro said as he turned around.
After sighing again and looking to the ground for a few seconds, Tadashi folded his arms and walked closer to his little brother. Hiro gave a step back and hold his fighter robot behind his back, afraid that his brother was going to take it away from him, but instead he just looked down at Hiro.
"I do remember they died when you were three."
Hiro looked to his brother's face, trying to understand what he was trying to say or do. Tadashi looked up and bit his lower lip, closing his eyes for a second before kneeling down to look Hiro in the eye. The younger boy tilted his head and gave a step back again.
"But do you remember what happened that night?"
"What night?"
Tadashi nodded softly before standing up and walking up to his part of the room. Hiro moved aside so he could see what his brother was doing. He watched as Tadashi opened a drawer on his nightstand and took some small objects from there. He didn't stop until he found an old notebook that Hiro recognized as being the notebook Tadashi used to study before he got into college. He couldn't understand why Tadashi was standing still as he looked to the notebook on his hands like it was made of gold.
The older one sighed again before flipping the pages slowly towards the back cover. He then removed a paperclip from it and grabbed a piece of paper that was attached to the cover and tossed the notebook aside before walking next to Hiro again. The younger boy raised an eyebrow as the older one held the picture in front of him, motioning for Hiro to grab it.
Hiro glanced at the clock and sighed in defeat. The robot fight had already started and if it wasn't for Tadashi he would have gotten there in time. He dropped his robot on the table beside him and finally grabbed the picture on Tadashi's hand, indifferently. He rolled his eyes before looking at it, but when he did, he tilted his head in both confusion and surprise.
"How... When did this happen?"
"I think I was eight or something. We were going home from the movie theater, and you were so tired that you just let your head collapse onto my shoulder and then you fell asleep. I was in a super uncomfortable position, but I refused to move because I knew you were fine. Then you wrapped your arm around my belly and rubbed your face on my shoulder. You hair tickled my neck and I wanted to laugh, but I couldn't because I knew you'd wake up. Mom found it was so cute that she took this picture."
"This picture was taken... By mom?"
Tadashi smiled as he sighed and nodded.
"Well, that was a pretty sweet story and all but..."
"She took this on the night that they died."
Hiro's heart started to beat faster as he blinked, trying to comprehend that new information.
"But didn't they die..."
"... On a car crash. Yes. More precisely, on this ride."
"Wait, we were on the car with them when they died?"
Tadashi sighed and walked away to sit down on his bed, covering his eyes with one of his hands. He looked to the floor again and put his hands together in front of him as he bit his lips. Hiro knew his brother well enough to recognize the fact he was trying not to cry. Tadashi was always the brave one, the one who knows what to do; the one takes the right decision every time. He could never allow himself to show weakness in front of his little brother.
And Hiro was about to know more about it.
The younger one frowned as he walked and sat beside Tadashi, who didn't bother to make eye contact. Hiro held out the picture.
"You better... Put it somewhere safe. Before I find a way to lose it or something."
Tadashi smiled as he took the picture and looked at it one more time. As if he could read Hiro's mind, he started to explain, never breaking eye contact with the picture.
"That night, not long after mom took this picture, a drunken guy hit our car with his. I remember our car spun around a few times before we crashed into that tree. Mom and dad were... They were thrown out the front window because they were not wearing the seatbelts. We were left alone on the car... There was glass everywhere; I still don't know how it didn't injure us immediately. You obviously woke up and then you started crying."
Tadashi took off his hat and took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair. Hiro looked to his brother as he put the picture back inside the notebook and put it back inside the drawer. Hiro couldn't help but notice how careful Tadashi was when he held that picture, as if it could fall apart with the softest touch.
"What happened next?"
The older brother finally turned his head to look down at the younger, whose eyes sparkled in both confusion and curiosity. Tadashi gave a soft smile.
"I hated it when you cried. Not only because it annoyed me to death", he said, playfully punching his brother's arm, "but also because it meant you weren't ok. I needed to make you stop. I wrapped my arms around you and brought you closer to me. You tugged my shirt and used it to dry your tears. I could feel your heartbeat and I knew you were scared. I was too. I put you in my lap and let you put your head onto my shoulder again. That somehow always calmed you down."
"It did. I remember that from my childhood. I think it was because it allowed me to realize how big and strong you are, and it made me feel safe. I felt safe and happy to have you with me."
Hiro smiled as he looked into her brother's teary eyes. Tadashi smiled back.
"After that, I heard an explosion. It probably was the drunken guy's car. The explosion wasn't big, but it scared us regardless. I remember the fire outside. The back window exploded and pieces of glass flew toward us. In that second, all I could think of is that pieces of glass were flying toward you. You couldn't even see them, because your head was pretty much buried in my shoulder. You were so scared after the explosion that you hugged me so tight I could barely breathe."
Nonchalantly, Tadashi put his hand over Hiro's and started to caress it with his fingers.
"And then, in less than one second, I turned my back on the window with you in my arms. I kept hugging you as I tried my best to keep you away from the glass. I just couldn't let it harm you."
"You turned your back on the window when it exploded? How come you were not hurt?"
"I never said I wasn't."
Hiro's jaw dropped in surprise as Tadashi tugged on the collar of shirt and showed Hiro a red scar on his shoulder.
"I have several scars on my back. They got smaller with time, but they'll always be there to remind me of the promise I made that night."
"P-Promise?", Hiro stuttered, looking down.
Tadashi straightened his shirt and put his hand on Hiro's chin to make him look up at him.
"That I would never, ever let anything bad happen to you."
Hiro smiled and started to get teary. Tadashi moved his hand up to wipe Hiro's tear away.
"Do you want to know what happened next?"
Hiro sniffed as he nodded.
"Some fireman found us. He called the rest of his team to rescue us, but when they opened the door I wasn't willing to let you go. They said they wanted to help, but I was so scared that if I let you go something bad would happen to you that I held you even tighter. They said they needed me to let you go so they could take care of me because I was bleeding a lot and they promised me you would be ok, but I didn't care. It's all a blur after that. I think I passed out. When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on a bed, full of bandages on my body. I looked around the room and you were not there."
He stopped talking to sigh again.
"I will never forget how fast my heart started beating. It hurt to walk because of bruises I had on my legs, but I left the bed and went running around the hospital calling for you. I yelled your name so hard I lost my voice later that day. Two nurses had to hold me because I wouldn't stop yelling and running. They took me back to my room and said that if I calmed down they'd let me see you, and they called me a hero for protecting you. It killed me to stay there with the nurses for hours straight, but I didn't say a word. I barely moved to prove them I was calm enough to see you. It was when I heard a baby crying."
He let out a chuckle.
"That damn cry I hated to hear. It was so loud and so annoying that I knew it was you. A nurse opened the door and brought you in. I swear I forgot about the pain, I forgot about our parents, I forgot about the car crash the moment I saw you. She put you by my side on the bed and I hugged you so tight you could barely breathe. Like you had done with me the night before on the car, and you stopped crying. You were alright. Nobody would ever say you had been involved in such an accident the night before. Then Aunt Cass entered the room... Well, the rest is history."
They both stood up and just looked at each other, sighing.
"That's why I can't stand it when you go out there on your own to go to those stupid fights. If you ever get hurt... I don't know how I'll be able to live with myself! And more than that, I know how smart you are. I know everything you can create with that big brain of yours. Why are you waisting all that on the streets?", he said as he poked Hiro's forehead.
"If you hadn't hugged me when that window exploded... I would have gotten hurt." Hiro said, slowly lifting his head to look up at his brother.
"Yes, I guess."
Hiro sniffed once more before hugging Tadashi and bursting into tears. Tadashi collapsed onto the bed with the sudden hug, his brother on top of him as he tugged Tadashi's shirt and wiped his tears on it, only to have more falling down from his eyes. Tadashi smiled and hugged his brother back, sitting up and caressing the younger one's hair as he rubbed his head on Tadashi's shirt.
"Hey, hush. No need to cry. I'm here."
Hiro sighed again as he hugged Tadashi even tighter.
"Thank you", he whispered.
Tadashi shook his head and allowed himself to lie down on his bed, Hiro lying by his side with his head on Tadashi's chest as the amount of tears slowly got smaller. In less than one minute, they were sleeping side by side as they hugged.
If their mother could see them, she would have taken the cutest picture ever.
So here you go, my first Big Hero 6 fanfic. Most of the ones I've seen about it focus too much on Hiro or are alternative universes where Tadashi is alive and comes back. While I did enjoy some fics I read, I felt like I was in the mood for something fluffy.
And before you criticize me on Hiro being too fluffy, remember when he saw Tadashi's picture on Baymax? He can be fluffy on the right situation.
I guess Tadashi doesn't die in this because they never visited the college that night. It makes me happy.
Anyway, I hope you like this! Please rate and review if you feel like it :D
