So I am just your average, normal everyday girl who loves to dream and live out those dreams. I grew up in a small town with huge family. I have normal, brown, wavy-ish curly, hair and dark brown eyes. I love FanFiction because it allows amateur authors let their ideas and voices be heard. -- HOW I LEARNED ABOUT FANFICTION -- In 2013, during my senior year of high school, my life changed completely and not in a normal way. I grew up with five older siblings, crazy, right? Especially when two of those siblings are twenty years older then me! Oh, well. That's my life. One of my siblings was so much like me, or I was like him, but either way, we were female and male versions of each other. He was my older brother by a couple years. He was geeky, loved playing magic and dungeons and dragons, loved playing anything on a computer, but most of all, loved life. He was truly an amazing older brother and he was the person that showed me FanFiction. Now you might be wondering why I'm using the past tense, well that's because he died in a car crash in November of 2013. For the entire year it felt like it did happen, still it doesn't. But it wasn't until I went to the University of Kentucky, that I felt it. I was finally around people that really wanted to hang out with me. That would invite me to do things and such. It was truly amazing. I was able to really open up to people and I knew that after my brother died, my life really was just starting. I still feel weird sometimes, but hopefully in things work out my way, I can have a life that he would be proud of. But most of all, a life I would be proud of too. Have you ever had a dream, that has become your goal, and essentially you want it to become your reality? I do. Here is my story: In November of 2011, I was looking around at the many random YouTube videos and noticed these exchange student videos. I watched them and got immediately engrossed in them. It made me want to become an exchange student. A student for Japan. I looked up to see if I could apply for my Junior year, 2012-2013, and I was too late. I still had time, though. As an exchange student, you have to be eighteen to eighteen and a half a month before you leave. If I chose to do the exchange after graduation, I would not apply. I turn 19, 2014. That is the summer of which I would leave for the after graduation, so I can't apply. I chose Rotary because it was the cheapest around and very careful with taking care of their abroad students. This would mean I would have to wait a year to apply for my senior year (2013-2014). I made sure that by the end of the year, I would become a scholar of my state and would only be short two or three credits of graduating. That was by the end of my Junior year. This meant I would taking Physics: Conceptual, Chemistry (double on Sciences), and Anthropology (turned out to be a really cool class). It isn't hard, but interesting. I will definitely not forget the Scientific Method ever again. Then, to help my parents pay for the exchange, I got a job right away. Out of all the places that was hiring, it just had to be McDonald's. I always thought to myself, "Japan, Japan. This job is to get there and nothing else," but that was also at first. Since I can multi-task, I was put in the Drive-Thru window and that meant taking orders and paying out at the same time. I got used to it the first day I was able to work on the cash register; it does help to have a semi-photographic memory. Then when I am not taking orders or waiting for cars to pull up, I have to wash dishes. I have met some great friends there and only have to work the weekends. Working the weekends also means I have to do the five a.m. shift, that usually ends around eleven or two o'clock. It isn't that bad, once you get use to waking up at four a.m. Also, in preparation, I am teaching myself Japanese. I don't use Rosetta Stone or other programs, but with many books and apps on my iPad. I watch anime and have a ton of Japanese music on my iPod. These are mainly for helping me pronounce the words correctly. They do not help, however, with sentence structure, but I do love to watch them. Now in September 2012, I sent in my application for the Rotary of my mother's town. I had my interview and I found out that this Rotary accepts two students. This was amazing, but another catch came into play, there were three applicants this year. I already knew that one of them was a year younger then me, and the other I didn't know. The day after I got a call from the Rotary. They said I would make an excellent exchange student, but that there were two slots and I three candidates. I wasn't chosen. I tried to search for other programs, but I couldn't find one that was cheap enough for my parents. This didn't mean I was going to let my goal go away. I would push further and achieve this because I know in my heart, that it will be true. Now I'll try at my University, or hopefully after college. I just know that it is all going to fit back into place.
