Writing Tips

Select events to keep readers engaged. Consider high points that could not logically be omitted. Then consider cutting the others.

Pace the story; readers want the story to progress, not always at the same speed. Early on, they may want to know of the characters or settings. Then you can slow it down to fill in details and set up expectations. If a person plays a role later, introduce them briefly in early paragraphs (If a dog matters, show a dog) but don't dwell on incidentals, keep the story going

When choosing verbs favor active over passive. Active verbs propel action (Destiny signed the document) while passive slows it down with an unnecessary word or two (The document was signed by Destiny)

Use powerful/precise modifiers. Usually, one strong word is better than several weaker ones (Scorching instead of very hot) if used correctly, it will make the reader feel the heat.

Dialog is important to give characters life. It's not what they say, but how they say it, keep the words natural as well. Some people have natural gift for dialogue, so if you don't that's okay, practice helps. But if not, no dialog is better than awkward dialog.

When writing first person avoid using "I" repetitively, switch it up with "Me" or "My."

Also remember to become the occasional nonobjective observer when describing scenery or events.

Idea Help

Find a routine to support thought. Brainstorming techniques can help you get invested in a project. Walking, driving, or even taking a sip of tea could be your stimulus of choice. These activities help keep your body occupied, allowing insights to mature. Don't forget to record your ideas in a notebook or voice memo. Be aware though, your brainstorming habit could become procrastination. Sitting at your favorite hotspot could become social hour instead of writing. Recognize when your productivity is compromised and change tactics.

If you have a subject, make a list of all the major topics you wish to cover. Add anything that comes to mind (both off the wall and reasonable) then rearrange the ideas by quality and plausibility. Keep in mind, that if you're picky or detailed from the start on the ideas, you defeat the purpose of brainstorming (In which one idea written down suggests another then another)

Freewriting is method of brainstorming; nonstop writing to loosen up our clamped down way of thinking. Usually you start freewriting with a few phrases or words, then a spark goes off and words begin streaming onto the paper.

Slow or fast, keep writing. The moment you settle back in your chair, you break the circuit that makes freewriting work. By forcing yourself to write you may be able to identify what really matters in the subject.

We get all antsy when our written work gets criticized (or even edited) because ideas we put put on paper emerge from our own thinking- writing is us. Granted, our words rarely express exactly who we are or what we're imagining, but such distinctions got lost quickly when someone points out to our work and says "that's stupid" criticism cuts deep; it feels personal. Challenges to a writer's assumptions, strategies, or evidence are part of the give-and-take of academic and professional life. You'll survive criticism and controversy if your work has integrity. But you'll have no defense at all if your writing is found thoughtless or careless when, in fact, it is. Fortunately a way to avoid the embarrassing criticism is also the best way to come up with fine ideas and impressive writing: reading. Reading can enrich your understanding, and introduce you to alternative views.

Although there isn't a medical term for waiting until the last minute to write a paper. A term has arisen called executive dysfunction: the inability to plan, organize, pace, and complete tasks. We've all experienced the symptoms, calling it procrastination when it comes to cleaning the aquarium, and writers block when it comes to finishing a paper on time. Finishing a paper isn't painful, it's just, who has cleaned their room, or done the dishes rather than composing a paragraph? Writing is fragile and vulnerable to ridiculous excuses and distractions. There's also no guarantee that the labor put in will equal the satisfactory pages churned out. And if you finish readers may not like it, although you see nothing wrong. These concerns lead to readers block. Set easy goals. Don't dedicate a whole day to writing. Instead, set two uninterrupted hours. Or for long term projects try for one sentence or paragraph a day.

Work in a place that limits distractions and encourages writing. Do parts you like first. Try freewriting.

Reward yourself, it's remarkable easy for people to work with incentives, so promise yourself a prize when you finish.

Lastly, paragraphs should explain a whole complete idea that contributes to the paper, usually writing instructors assign 5-8 sentence paragraphs simply cause their tired of students who don't back up claims with details and evidence. A good paragraph can be as short as two sentences or as long as 20.

Revising Tips

When revising your own work, you usually won't be able to tell what's wrong at first. Try setting the paper down for a few days/hours before revising. Then read your paper later with fresh eyes.

Try reading your paper aloud, and marking parts that confuse you or your audience.

How you revise your work is a different matter, some edit line by line. Perfecting a sentence before moving on to the next. Others write quickly then revise, others combine these methods. It makes sense to draft the story quickly then edit. Only cause you might spend hours getting everything right, then deciding later to cut a whole paragraph, or even trashing it to start anew.

Peer editing, a scary thought. Many people become nervous when asked to play editor, though such requests come all the time: "Read this for me?" Either they don't want to offend others with criticism, or they have doubts about their competence. These are predictable reactions, but you need to get past them Your job as an editor is not to criticize writers, but help them.

Read from the perspective of a typical reader. You may not be able to point out the finer points of grammar, but you know if it's boring, confusing, or unconvincing. Writers need this perspective. So you really do have the expertise to give feedback on problems that need immediate attention. Still peer editors in college will edit minimally. Focusing on tiny matters such as spelling and commas, and ignore arguments lacking evidence, or paragraphs dull enough to kill a small mammal. Simply cause it's easier to circle punctuation errors than suggest whole pages need to be reworked. So, peer edit the way you would edit your own work. Think of the purpose, the audience, and subject matter.

Be specific when pointing out problems or opportunities, it doesn't help when the writer reads "Organization is confusing" so point out the paragraph where the writer went off track. You soften criticism when you offer suggestions or strategies for improvement. However, avoid the tendency for your colleague to redesign their paper to suit your own interest and opinions.

Don't just point out the bad, point out the good. It's easy to overlook what's well about a paper, so find something good to say too, even about a paper that mostly doesn't work. It will help a writer who's facing long revisions. But don't make issues of it. Writers will know immediately if your scraping the bottom to find something worthy of praise. Keep comments polite, treat another writers work with the golden rule. Slips in writing are embarrassing enough without an editor making fun of them.

It’s hard to get into Detective Conan. There’s so many episodes (700 and more) and even more chapters (900 and more). So, below is all you need to know about Detective Conan condensed into an easy to handle list.

I made this originally because I was devastated that, with all the detective shows we watch, my brother said he didn’t like Detective Conan. Just... WHY!? After days of begging him to take a look at it again, he finally told me to put together the best of Detective Conan, and he’ll try it. To me the best is the plot, the interesting cases, the characters, and their relationships. So, I made this list. A few episodes into this list my brother was fascinated, and confessed that he thought all Detective Conan was about is Conan knocking out Kogoro, and solving cases with his voice. Heck no! Anyway, I’m not going to sugar coat it, you either like Detective Conan, or you don’t. Crossing my fingers, here’s to hoping you at least try it out.
