![]() Author has written 3 stories for Harry Potter. Hi, I’m maschl, an avid fan-fiction reader primarily of fanfics set in the Harry Potter universe or the world of GoT/ ASoIaF. I have a kind of love-hate relationship with the Harry Potter world. It’s an amazing playground for fanfics, but I really don’t like canon all that much. Partly because of the pairings, but mostly because it just doesn’t make any sense. I don’t mean from a scientific point of view – it’s fiction after all. But with regard to the internal consistency, and the consistency of the characters’ actions. Put simply, there is none. None at all. Characters constantly behave as plot devices instead of as actual characters. What magic can or can’t do is completely random, and all the time some new deus ex machina is introduced, only to be immediately forgotten again, without any consideration of the implications for the overall story. I could elaborate, but why do so, when it was done brilliantly by ARedHair already? Check out their profile! Anyway, I think these inconsistencies are exactly why Harry Potter is such a great universe for fanfiction. There is just so much left to explore or explain under a new light. Unlike for example in Tolkien’s world; which, even though it is an objectively much more impressive work of literature, just doesn’t offer very much potential for amazing fanfiction. Game of Thrones/ ASoIaF is a bit different in that regard, as it is not the inconsistencies but probably more the unsatisfactory/ missing conclusion of the story that make it attractive for fanfiction. It's also a vast world with many fledged out, interesting characters, that just offer an amazing playground for fanfic writers. And with the disappointing ending of GoT, and the (probably forever) missing ending of the book series, it is left to fanfics alone to bring the Song of Ice and Fire to a satisfactory conclusion. Apart from reading, I also dabble in putting some of my own ideas into writing. English is a second language for me, so I hope that you’ll indulge me the occasional mistake. Except for the Word spell check, my writings are not beta-read. I'm currently mapping out two more HP stories and a longer GoT fic, but I haven't gotten around to posting any of it yet. I won't post anything until I have mapped out the whole story and have written a draft for the first few chapters, so that I can be sure that I'll be able to complete any published story eventually. As for now, I've only posted three not very serious stories set in the Harry Potter universe. Too Many Champions started out as a humorous take on the lack of common sense in the wizarding world, but I also added some other ideas that hopefully make it a bit more original. The story is the first multi-chapter story I've ever written, and I had a lot of fun writing it. My very first story Big Words is a short silly piece inspired by my own difficulties with the English language. My second short story The Animagus Transformation Potion is another rather silly one-shot and pokes fun at the trope that whenever Harry and his friends learn to become Animagi, they almost always end up with some awesome and very useful forms. Awfully convenient, isn’t it? My current unpublished WIPs Harry Potter and the Dark Lord: After Sirius's death, Harry reflects upon all that has happened to him at Hogwarts. He starts to see Dumbledore's manipulations everywhere and begins to suspect that the Headmaster might be the Dark Lord of the Prophecy. With the only person he can still trust by his side, he starts to work against Dumbledore and the Order. Too bad that they are actually on the same side. Good!AD I See No Difference: With Professor Snape's hateful and cruel words towards her, Hermione's trust in authority figures comes crashing down for good. She begins to question the adults' response to Harry's involuntary involvement in the Triwizard Tournament and resolves to keep him safe herself. And if they have to leave the country to escape the madness that is Hogwarts and Magical Britain, so be it. A Son of Ice and Fire: Or the one where Jon Snow knows something. Young Jon Snow discovers that his whole life has been a lie. Soon, he learns what it means to be a Targaryen and makes plans to claim his birthright. A new player enters the game of thrones, the element of surprise on his side. |
